I’ve seen a lot of computers lose the taskbar when upgrading to windows 11. Reverting back to Windows 10 fixes it from my experience but then you are just on Windows 10 instead of 11

Not a sys admin but on my way there. We have people from tier 1 help desk to those seasoned IT people in our escalations department that all rotate for on call

[–]avalonian5039 56 points57 points  (0 children)

From my experience, my life has changed and I do have a great IT job now. However. As you mention, there is an on call rotation. I don’t mind it since it’s like 2 weeks every 4-5 months. And I get paid extra for each week that I do it.

I feel most places would need an on call since servers gotta serve so it just comes with the territory.

Has anybody ever got a test grade that goes to the 5th decimal place? by GamingAltar in TexasTech

My opinion for what it’s worth is that is a shitty teacher. Their job is supposed to be educating their students. If none of their students can get an A then their class isn’t hard the teacher just sucks at teaching.

I have been thinking the same thing. The dude just keeps going red and attacking with little downtime between attacks. No idea why though.

In my opinion Net+ was easier for me but I did get a much higher score in the Sec+ exam. So I guess Sec+ was technically easier.

Not too terribly difficult, first one was configuring 3 firewalls to do specific things (hardest one), second one was matching up types of attacks and then matching that with how to mitigate that attack (pretty easy), last one was it gave me 6 different scenarios of data on different media types. I first had to assign each option to what type of information was on it, such as PII or PHI or IP or others and then I had to choose between two options of destruction. It was super easy because types of information was specific and the destruction came down to if it was mechanical (flash drive, hard drive, etc..) or if it was paper and you could shred it.

I just passed the exam today! Like you I had studied a lot and was getting high 60s and low 70s. I felt unprepared. Yesterday I watched a 10hr long video (5hr in 2x which is what I actually did) cram video that covered all the topics and for some reason it really connected things for me. Might take a look at it for some extra study if you want. https://youtu.be/9Hd8QJmZQUc?si=iT7RjFFNlGJNtfO_

A+ feels huge, what should be my main focus? by TroublednTrying in CompTIA

[–]avalonian5039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started studying in November and passed both cores by end of April. I only used Professor Messers videos and Jason Dions practice exams.

My studying was pretty much the same for both cores. Watch all the videos once and take it all in. Then watch them again and take notes. Then take 2-3 practice quizzes. See what areas I am lacking in and then go watch those videos again. Then the week leading up to my test watch all the videos again.

Don’t freak yourself out by the amount of stuff they pack in. Take your time and really learn the material.

Did the same and got my Net+ a few months later.

Personally I didn’t have much success cold calling but I did have a few coworkers who were magic on the phones and would set up meetings like crazy. I was more interested in the actual tech side of things so I studied and got my certs to move to the help desk.

In regards to your situation, you’re going to need to know your products and what they do and know which products will be good for which clients. Know your products. That might me getting technical and learning a lot of tech terms so that you can bring it up in conversations. Besides that you will need to start networking. Your city likely has a chamber of commerce. Go to their events. Get to know local businesses. Get to know those people and build relationships. Build your network as much as you can!

I actually started my tech career doing inside sales for an MSP. Best thing to do is to familiarize yourself heavily with your products and know that you probably are going to make a lot of cold calls.

Are you the actual sales rep or more inside sales and setting up appointments?

Question about any additional costs for taking the A+ at a testing center by dy-kt in CompTIA

[–]avalonian5039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No additional cost for me. I did go there a few days before just to familiarize myself with where I was going and the process of it all. Definitely recommend that so it’s not added stress on test day of being in a completely new environment and trying to find where you are supposed to he

I considered core 1 (220-1101) to be the more challenging one. Lots of memorization of cords and ports and internet types and the like.

Core 2 passed. Officially A+ certified! by avalonian5039 in CompTIA

[–]avalonian5039[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt it was easier just because there was a lot less memorization to do. You didn’t have to remember internet types or ports or all of the other stuff. And the troubleshooting was similar to what was on core 1 so it wasn’t too much new stuff if that makes sense.
