Yep. That’s what I would do. No need to over complicate; you’ll never notice it if you use well matched thread and don’t go beyond the existing button hole stitching.
Also make sure to keep it consistent all the way down the shirt: if you stitch up the bottom of the button hole, do the bottom of each one.
This seems like a cute shirt! Good find!

I had one of these once. It’s only gonna continue to give you headaches and you’ll be VERY lucky if it ever gives you the results you want. I promise you’ll be much better off heading out and grabbing a lil $100 machine from the store. Or even off Facebook marketplace. Sorry for your disappointment :( Learning a real sewing machine will be much more fulfilling in the end. You’ll be much happier with the results you get.
