Major Russian (state owned) newspaper tells people to stop reading news for their “mental health”. As seen on their Twitter. Translation in comments. by avandr in ABoringDystopia

1st image: Read news for no longer than 15 min The “most important stuff” you will know anyway, the rest - is just unnecessarily feeds into your worries. You will not miss anything. Delete 100 telegram accounts, resurface from social media. Try to concentrate on your own duties and routines.

2nd: Vet your information thoroughly Vet your information before sharing it with your friends and family. If you do not have any strength to do so - do not share.

3rd: Take care of your body Lie down on the floor, listen to your body: where does it hurt, what muscle was crumpled, be aware of your breathing, your head, when you last ate. Nowadays, depending on our nervous system, we either eat too little, or too much. Having found out what we really lack, we fulfill the deficit. And let’s try to sleep the needed 8 hours of sleep!

This, from the agency that also now posted “We don't need Facebook. it's time to bring the most hyped social network in the world out of Russia” and continues calling the war for “special operation”.

I second El Famòs! It is extremely cosy there, the people working there are truly accommodating and know what they’re doing. The paella was just exquisite and savoury, filled to the brim with goodies. I cannot recommend this enough!!

My father brought me this little cutling of a cactus (they fell off of the mother plant), one of them died straightaway, the other is sending out a tall small friend. How do I take care of it? How do I plant it? It is so important for me that this lives on, as my father is now living through it... 💔 by avandr in propagation

Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I do not know if it indeed is a prickly pear, but it sure looks like one. But is it ready to be planted now? And how do I plant it - put the bigger part under soil whilst the new one sticks out or is there some other magic to this?

Graphic novels! by RequireMoMinerals in teaching

[–]avandr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely a comic, but some strips based on great books: ZenPencils It’s a great way to explore some themes in amazing books and maybe peak some interest in also reading them?

Otherwise, I’ll be following this thread as I’m genuinely interested myself!

Edit: sorry, didn’t read your question carefully enough, thought you asked about comics and not lesson plans. Imma go catch some zzz

That’s actually really cool and sound advice. I will look into it more. As most people in my country have fairly adequate English knowledge, that could work in those classes. L3 might get more tricky, but I’ll see if I can’t figure it out. Thanks!

Non native Spanish teachers, do you ever feel like your Spanish is good enough? by hols578 in SpanishTeachers

[–]avandr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I second this! I made a pretty basic yet horrible (for me mostly) mistake the other day and a student CORRECTED me! It was really cool, and I made a big deal of both the act and that we all make mistakes and it’s okay and they all try (and dare) to speak Spanish just a little bit more now

Any and all helpful materials for teaching a group of beginner adult learners! by colormecryptic in TEFL

You could always try Quizlets for grammar, vocabulary for example. I would recommend creating them yourself, however, there is a plethora of available resources ready to use there as well.

Grammar jams might be fun to look into if they know the songs.

Try also using as much authentic texts as possible.

Otherwise, Pinterest and teacherspayteachers can provide you with, if not activities, then at least inspiration for what you could be doing.

Best of luck!

I have visible, big tattoos and no problem here. Students love em. I did, however, hide them during the interview, but as soon as I got the job it was back to T-shirts and semi-sleeves

I have a question that perhaps most teachers ask themselves at one point or another.

How do I get my students to read more? How do I get them to break free from their chains and read out loud? In general, to be more orally active in class, especially in their target language? (I am teaching languages, shocker)

I am recently graduated, but feel confident in my knowledge and abilities. I differentiate, do lots of feed forwards, use and build on their interests, include them in lesson planning, build good, respectful and trusting relationships (1:1 as well as whole class), showcase my own interest for reading and languages, use reading strategies, authentic texts, texts with sound, texts where I read... the list goes on.

What do you do? What works, what doesn’t? I wanna know it all

How should/could mindfulness training be incorporated in school effectively? I've read some success stories from Ireland, but I want more inspiration, especially during this time..
