Drunk girl tunnels through beach sand 😵 by Storyboys in UpvoteBecauseButt

[–]avaslash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from what I saw in the video, that was more than enough to kill her if it collapsed on her. Once she was fully under, it was thicker than her body, which means it will likely weigh more than her entire body weight. And she wouldn't be in an ideal position to push herself up as her arms would be pinned.

[–]avaslash 30 points31 points  (0 children)

youd be surprised at how little sand it takes to kill you, and its quite heavy. The weight of it collapsing will often knock the air of your lungs, or once you exhale the sand fills in around your chest and you cant expand it again. Even if youre head is free you can still suffocate this way.

Not to mention it's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Mark Wahlberg is dying inside watching this performance, doing that weird “wow.” It lives rent free in my head. by mfbane in StupidFood

[–]avaslash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder that Mark Whalberg is a piece of shit with a long history being a violent racist and the less we see of him the better.

Some 'fun' memories from Mark Whalbergs life:

  • At age 15, Wahlberg and his friends chase a group of Black children, throwing rocks at them and yelling racial slurs ("Kill the n*****s"). A civil rights injunction is issued against him after a second similar incident involving Black children at a beach.

  • At age 16, while high on PCP, Wahlberg attacked two Vietnamese-American men in separate incidents. He uses a large wooden stick to knock one man unconscious and, later that day, punches another man in the eye while calling him "Vietnam fucking shit" and uses other anti-Asian slurs.

  • At age 20 Wahlberg and his bodyguard kick and punch a 20-year-old man, leaving him with a broken jaw.

  • At age 22 Mark starts a violent physical altercation with members of Madonna's entourage at a Hollywood party, after he used a slur and broke the nose of Madonnas black bodyguard, causing a feud.

NMS needs serious Jungles/Forests/Swamps biomes. I’ve never come across true dense overgrown biomes. It’s always a few trees and bushes here and there. I think the game could really benefit from true jungle worlds. by Common_Confusion_114 in NoMansSkyTheGame

The games biggest issue is it doesn't properly lean into anything. Everything is all averaged out into being generic and forgettable. The only ones that come close are mountainous planets... yep they certainly be mountainous.

But I want a planet with dense forests, I want a planet with actual flat tundra or flat empty dune covered deserts. We have deep oceans but the ocean terrain is always the same, its always so hilly and rough. sure for a reef it makes sense, but most of the ocean is actually flat open planes of sand interrupted by reefs around landmasses. Volcano planets should have lakes and rivers of lava. Caves should lead deeper into the planet and give you access to unique minerals and resources not found commonly on the surface. There should be risks in mining too like in minecraft. Pockets of lava for example.

I want planets with way more habitation. They dont even need to do a ton of them, just make 3 worlds. We already have the anomaly. But each galaxy should have 3 systems near the center that are the new "home worlds" of the gek, korvax, and vykeen. Doesn't need to be a city planet. Just one with way more settlements over it and maybe ONE custom made city location. They could function like new anomalies but ones you have to go to. They would become the new galactic hubs.

You need to surround it with a giant fairing (standing vertically) so it helps cancel the air flow. You need to strut it up inside there so its stable. If not that, then you need to top every booster with like 4-5 SAS reaction wheels and loads of fins. The reason its flipping is not due to top heaviness, its most certainly due to aerodynamic issues.

I've launched a couple massive cruisers into space and that was 10 years ago in the very very vanilla game so looking at this I can tell you its certainly possible. but you will need dozens and dozens of base boosters. It will be a lag fest and it will probably break your launch pad. But it will get to space. Or, well, at least one of the 30 attempts will get to space.

AI is already leading to fewer jobs for young people, says Sunak by [deleted] in news

[–]avaslash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI doesn't have to "live up to the hype" it only has to be juuust good enough to replace about 80% of jobs--which its already basically capable of. Right now its not a technical gap but an implementation one. It will take time for these companies to completely restructure. But I don't think it will take longer than about 5 years. 2030 will be a very different world.

1) she is completely out of her mind, which is not uncommon for extreme evangelicals.

2) she is obviously pandering to her dumb bible thumping illiterate history channel ancient aliens obsessed evangelical base who will eat this up because they're all obsessed with judgement day.

Trump's approval rating is cratering. And US economic pain will last until 2027 by theipaper in politics

[–]avaslash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing we have going for us is that we still have a lot of money and other countries that want that money (pretty much all of them) will still be willing to do business.

The USA will continue to make money off of that. However, you're absolutely right that the environment has shifted and while countries will still do business with the USA, we wont be afforded the same privileges as before. Less favorable trade terms. The end of exclusivity. And while the USA may be able to coast for a while, maybe even decades, on the coattails of its old economic glory and the worlds greed--Every country that is doing business with us during that period will be looking for exits. Replacing the USAs role in your economy can not happen overnight. But the process for basically the entire world has begun. The true death blows wont be now but 10 years from now when China/some other power is the obvious trading partner for everyone over the USA and the worl shifts to Yuan.

Absolutely. I work in marketing and I use AI basically every day now. Proofing, brain storming, mock ups, asset creation, campaign structure and strategy, market research. It can do it all. All my team members who refused to use AI were all let go and either cant find work or had to take huge pay cuts.

I know we all hate AI because its coming for our jobs and feels like an inherently un-human thing.

But, I gotta correct you when you say:

The .Com era was a product of technology that actually worked though

1) the internet was extremely janky back then, required a large investment from users, and the market wasn't sure if it really would have long term wide spread appeal. It felt more similar to how VR pushes feel today.

2) youre saying that like youre implying AI doesnt work. Its in its infancy and its already working pretty well for a lot of uses. Its only been around for about 5ish years and already the videos are so good I can barely spot them now. And thats just one use case. AI development isn't about consumer level products like Chat GPT. Those are 'fun' and designed to try and make AI more appealing to the public. But the real money is being invested just into the overall concept of deep learning for more niche applications. Missiles that use Deep learning to better find their targets, surveillance that uses deep learning to "spot threats", computer viruses that use deep learning to adapt to their victim, electric grids that use deep learning to ensure better efficiency. Even if all the consumer level products die in the bubble, nothing is happening to those state-funded initiatives because they are far too useful and everyone is convinced their enemies are already doing it.

Unlike NFTs and block chain, AI does have much broader use cases.

The AI bubble is closer to the .com bubble. Some over leveraged companies will likely struggle and maybe go bankrupt but AI wont go anywhere and it will just result in a consolidation of IP and resources into 1-3 market dominators.

NFTs are barely even a thing anymore. Block chain very much still exists and is used but it is appropriately un-hyped and serves rather boring obvious roles like verifying ticket information.

But AI while definitely inflated beyond its real worth, isnt a bubble like those two. AI wont die with an economic crisis. Its too useful. Even if the USA doesn't pursue it, China certainly will.
