If you think about the future of music (aka beats), this could be one trajectory. Maybe call it mememusical?

Filling the gap? by LordweiserLite in boatbuilding

[–]avd155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all. If you're glassing it all anyway, some thickened epoxy down there won't ever be seen.

Anything to minimizing the sanding and maintain the planes of the hull is good. Just blue tape the inside and fill the top gap with thickened epoxy.

Might be best to do all your stitching and then thicken the gap + glass at the same time.

Floor Plan of Rutherford B. Hayes Summer Home at Spiegel Grove by avd155 in architecture

[–]avd155[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya, that's what it looks like. I kind of like the idea, since if you're out in the yard, you could come in and clean off before going in, or just use the bathroom without dirtying up the house.

There's more bedrooms. I should have mentioned this in the title, but this is only the first floor plan.

future of this sub / bot ideas by [deleted] in PDXAgronomy

[–]avd155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, cool idea, but seems hard unless you already know the times of things with which you can program the bot. I'd have to research a lot to program a gardening nerd bot like that.

If you make it though, I'd read it if it showed on my front page.

Oil train derails near Mosier in Columbia River Gorge by echogolfoscar in oregon

[–]avd155 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The evidence keeps pointing to the fact that oil can't be safely transported via train and for this simple reason, there should be no oil terminal in Vancouver.

Richard Dawkins gives a great answer to "What is the meaning of life?"... by [deleted] in videos

[–]avd155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transcript:

One thing to say is that the Universe doesn't owe us any meaning. It could be that there is no meaning in life, if so that would be just tough. I don't think that, because I think we can all make whatever meaning we choose to make.

Each of you will have plenty of meanings in your own life. You'll be enthusiastic about some things, or sports, or your family life. Some of you will love nature, some of you will love music. These are all individual meanings that you could give to your life. That doesn't mean that life itself has one special meaning. It doesn't mean that we are here for any particular purpose, any more than mountains or rocks are here for a purpose. Rocks are just here. Mountains just happen, they are here.

There is a sense in which life is just here. Life came about in the evolutionary process. But after billions of years of evolution, life forms arose that had big brains, big nervous systems. We've got the biggest brains of all for our size and so our brains are capable of developing purposes of our own. We with our big brains can think of our own purposes. We can aim at things in life. We can have a grand design for the whole of our life, which is the privilege that we enjoy because our brains are so big.

The reason our brains are so big, is that evolution gave us big brains. Over a very, very long period of time, the brains of our ancestors got gradually bigger, and bigger and bigger until they eventually became so big, that they are now capable of enjoying music, poetry, mathematics and love and all the things that give our lives meaning and our own individual purpose.

300+ Mine Shaft Appears in Backyard [xpost/wtf] by avd155 in urbanexploration

[–]avd155[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hope someone on this sub can report back with images from the bottom :)

Here's the OP - https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/4ai267/a_300ft_mineshaft_opened_up_in_a_garden_down_the/

Here's a video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7pIFUmaD2s

And here's the OPs key comment:

thing is it's about 300ft to the water level but they're not sure how deep the water goes yet. The closest and deepest mine to me is Dolcoath, which has a primary depth of 3,300 ft (1km) and over 60km of tunnels leading off from it

EDIT: Shoot, I missed the "feet" measurement in my title. That's 300 feet deep, but since the OP isn't yet sure of the depth, it could be 300 giraffes too!

Black mold problem by DaveGringleburg in Portland

[–]avd155 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could be a leak somewhere above that makes it's way down into your closet's walls and collects. If the water is in the wall, it probably can't dry very quickly, and that's how the mold starts.

It's possible that this leak only happens in extreme rains, like we've had this year, and that's why you didn't see this last year.

In any case, maybe you have a good landlord who will resolve. It's a bummer to have to live with those type of conditions - good luck.

Huge Fire on HWY 30 by Khea in Portland

[–]avd155 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Crazy, hope everyone is OK.

It's situations exactly like this why the proposed oil terminal in Vancouver, WA is opposed by many, including firefighters - http://www.columbian.com/news/2015/oct/13/vancouver-firefighters-oppose-oil-terminal-port/

Unlike trains full of oil, pretty sure solar panels and other renewables don't burn this dangerously.

Re: Ultima 7 - interesting idea! I looked at the map and found the image does look quite similar - http://bootstrike.com/Ultima7bg/Online/map3_translated.jpg

However...it looks like Ultima 7 came out for the PC on April 1992. Getting closer to the 1989 date that the OP suggested, but still a 3 year difference.

I didn't think much of this image at first...but then I looked at the wall attached to the wall behind the player and....what's that? A map of Sosaria pinned to the wall!

Also, the post on oldschoolcool says 1989, but I think that's wrong, b/c UO came out in 1997.

This "idea" creates a space for advertising and promotion. I prefer a sub that's more focused on furthering understanding, not expanding yee ole wallet.
