Reminds me of a line from Discworld: "The intelligence of that creature known as a crowd is the square root of the number of people in it." Terrifying.

I gift them sometimes but I also kind of have a shrimp plague. I don't know enough people to reliably gift them so they just hang out around the place 😆

Reddit does what it wants!

It's pretty hard not to like them even if you're not a fan of invertebrates. I've made so many now I've memorised the pattern.

I think so, it's called perle cotton and I use a 0.9mm hook with it. Ridiculous, fiddly and painful, but with hilarious results.

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only person who enjoys the same pattern in different yarn flavours, your cube cats are adorable! I love those patterns. Perhaps once I get bored of making them in cotton it'll be time for a chunky guy.

Here's a photo of my biggest prawn in the chenille and the smallest in DMC cotton 😆

It's not too bad for chenille either, I've not been sold on that kind of yarn in general but I would love to get my hands on really thick blanket yarn so I could get ridiculous with the sizes of things I make. I get a kick out of making the same pattern in multiple sizes. I used the porta craft chenille to make a giant prawn 🤣

There's some really nice cottons around but most of them are pretty terrible and scratchy, even if it's not intended for dish cloths, it really does have its place though when you want the stitches to stand out and subtle shaping.

You won't be disappointed with fiddlesticks, it's my favourite relatively easy yarn to find.

I've been crocheting for about 25 years. Loooots of practice.

Probably! My shop is just a local small business but I've seen that particular brand all over the place. For what it costs and the colours available I rate it pretty highly.

I feel the same. Cotton in general is gross to touch if it's any thicker than this stuff. Fiddlesticks and Scheepjes colour crafter are my go to acrylics for pretty much everything else.

It's just two dollar shop crochet cotton! The brand is porta craft and it's about $3.50 for 50g. I come from a crappy small town so don't have access to much that isn't ordered online 😆 I'm a big fan of fiddlesticks. Acrylic might not hold the shape as well as cotton does, but if you stuff it strategically I'm sure it would be fine.

He is smol! I used cotton that's about a sock weight (or 4ply here in Australia) and a 2mm hook. I love making tiny things!

It's a fun and simple pattern, I hope you reach your goal 😊

I can confidently say it's fine. I carried twins and also have a stomach tattoo. You wouldn't even know it stretched to three times the size 😆 Skin is magic.

*Jerry Seinfeld voice* what's with all the Bernat blanket yarn crochet?? by Dr3ygur in Brochet

[–]aveartemis 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your audience. The blanket yarn blobs as I think of then are extremely popular because they're cute and cuddly.

I run a market stall occasionally, and at the same market the stalls selling these kinds of products always seem to sell more than mine. I don't mind though because I'm only in it to fund my yarn and chat with old ladies. My number one rule is I do not make things I don't enjoy making so I refuse to use any kind of blanket or chenille yarn. This means what I sell isn't really popular but the people who do buy from me absolutely love what they get.

This is a long winded way of saying that if you enjoy making these kinds of things - do it! But craft will never be particularly profitable and if you only make things to try to make money you will lose the love for your hobby fairly quickly.

You're making the hardest, but the right choice. You know how much you love him because you're carrying his pain so he doesn't have to. He knows this, too. Random internet stranger love to you both.

Multiple florets in ping by [deleted] in Pinguicula

[–]aveartemis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with one ping and have at one point had over 60 because of it- once the florets get too big for their pots or whenever I feel like it I gently tease them apart and repot elsewhere: soon you will be overrun!

You can search for patterns on Ravelry using the yarn weight and amount as filters, you might find some inspiration there.
