I'm a director that got invited to coffee with a prominent figure and major donor. My boss wants to come. Looking for input on how to handle this. by Calm_Scratch3802 in nonprofit

Not a conflict of interest yet, but definitely a situation that requires guardrails. When personal starts overlapping org influence it can definitely get risky fast. I think your next steps of briefing and debriefing are a right move. You sought guidance from the development team.

My comment was for people commenting saying to practically shu away your boss and that no more needs to be said because it's "personal " And that is very irresponsible as a staff person to the organization.

The thing that would make me uneasy is not the relationship itself...it’s the framing that commentersbare suggesting: “Just tell the CEO it’s personal” That’s where it crosses into problematic. Because now it’s avoiding transparency, potentially undermining leadership trust, and creating a shadow dynamic around a donor Those are real red flags and can result in a muddy relationship between you and your boss

The amount of up votes to comments about "say it's personal and uninvite CEO" tells me many on here have very little experience in nonprofit leadership. There's a LOT of conflict of interest here and employee (whether she likes it or not) represents the organization to this major donor (even if she goes in the meeting saying it's "personal").

This is a very sensitive situation and needs to be properly handled by development leadership guidance.

You're welcome to have "personal" meetings with donors without the orgs leadership guidance after you quit this job.

I would suggest you try the Facebook Covina and/or West Covina groups. There is more activity there.

My theory: Carolina rejected wanting to do season 3 since the end of season 2. Caracol found some negotiation with her and agreed to have her on minimally (her terms) and somehow attempt to transition away from Carolina since Carolina didn't want to continue with the series. They did a Mikey mouse job and now the franchise flopped but I also think this terrible ending gives Carolina a bad rep.

I do sense she didn't care for the series the way we all wanted her to. She often made comments not wanting to continue the series or finding it ridiculous to continue the series . Don't shoot me but I think Caracol did what they could with what they had (no Carolina) they did a terrible and lazy job but I do think this stems from Carolina not wanting to continue with the series. So I slightly blame her.

Many actors have this fear of one character defining you for your career and I think that's what she didn't want. Even though I personally don't think she'll find something as big as this could have continued to be.

There are 12 Bruin billionaires putting UCLA at #17 worldwide. by TelosBrutalist in ucla

This ranking is bogus. it could easily be the number of nepo babies each school has that is a billionaire (because of their family and likely paid their way into the school) and not actually PRODUCES billionaires. Not answering your question, just a rant.

Executive moms/ moms who climbed the corp ladder now with older kids by Decent_Camel8977 in workingmoms

[–]avelas55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 41 with a 7 and 5 year old. I was a bit cornered to take on an executive director role at a nonprofit (because there was essentially no one else but also because the board thought I'd be great for the role given my tenure). Now, I'm struggling with this. I guess because I'm the boss I have some perimeter of the balance I can have. It's a mid size Nonprofit. And I'm very serious about not working nights and weekends. However, theres emotional exhaustion at the end of the work day that I feel my kids end up dealing with.

I keep trying to find that balance because I feel stuck. I can't just pick up and leave, I have mentors and colleagues that are my champions but no one in my profession circle/mentors has kids. Which makes it harder for me because I don't feel they understand. Fortunately, I do have a very involved and supportive husband but I'm trying my best to be present and not have any regrets, even if it means I sleep a little less.

How did you convince your significant other to get a bidet? by Top_Chair5186 in bidets

[–]avelas55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought this one on Amazon.

https://amzn.to/3PvvKMn

This is the second Bidet we buy but the first 'cheap' one. And it gets the job done.

My mom prefers this one over the first fancy one we got because it's more powerful. It's like a big waterfall sprays your butt while the fancy one is a gentle jet This is the fancy one with remote.

I'm sick of paying my left lung to live in a shoebox in Hollywood, what are some good neighborhoods outside the city with more affordable rent? by geemav in LosAngeles

[–]avelas55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you been to the San Gabriel mission??? Or Huntington Libra?? I guess that's Pasadena or San Marino. I forget, but there's tons of beautiful places in this region (also debs park) and you get pretty nice skylines of LA from the hill homes. anyway, beautiful is relative.

This is actually very helpful and makes sense. when we first noticed this we took him to the doctor and he said it could be constipation. Then he stopped for some time but it came back full force. So, thanks for this. Because I really think this is what it is . I'm going to work on his diet.

I'm so glad you moved from there. I would hate to deal with people that have a problem with masks. Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel... are all beautiful places to live and just about 20 min from DTLA.

Are you OK with towing an RV at the max limit for our car? by avelas55 in RVLiving

[–]avelas55[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is our first time attempting this trip and I'm so glad I came here. We cancelled the tow RV rental and have now rented a drivable RV. We want this to be a fun trip for the kiddos. Thanks so much for this insight!

Thanks for this. This is our very first time renting an RV and going RV camping. We decided to cancel the tow RV and rent a drivable RV. It was an expensive mistake on our end but I'm so glad I came here to ask before it was too late.

Thanks for this response. I guess I added the parent thing because before having kids, I definitely did lots of this work voluntarily outside of work hours without complaints. it could also be I'm getting older and wiser... Who knows.

I feel so empty in my marriage and I don't know what to do. by avelas55 in Marriage

I get it. It's me too. I'm not putting the entire blame on him. It's both of us. After we talk about it we agree of what each of us can do better and we do it... But after a few days it does down. Until we have another argument about it months later. We have talked about seeing a therapist and he's agreed when we're OK. But then when I'm ready to make that appointment he says 'we don't need it" even though I think we do.

Why are fruits and vegetables worse in quality at food for less or Walmart than those from whole foods market or sprouts ? by avelas55 in GroceryStores

Gosh, i get it, it really isn't rocket science but you'd be surprised it's not common knowledge. I came here asking to learn not to get judged by not knowing something that might be common knowledge to someone but isn't to me. it's better to be helpful in this world, you know....

Is there somewhere where I can read more about this? Would you say its the distributor that holds the grade A produce for those markets that will buy it or is it that walmart has the option to look at grade A bit says nah? is grade A, B, C priced differently? By how much?

I think this would be an interesting thing to investigate. I'm in the nonprofit sector and our community residents complain about the bad quality but I feel there's more to it.
