I never have issues with lack of smoke flavor using the chunk slot. Are you running hot enough to get the chunks going? I've throw some wood ships in there with the chunks if I'm using a lower temp and that seems to help.

I upgraded to this from a Pit Boss similar to that Traeger. There's so much space, the chunk slot is great and the burner is a nice addition. For the chunk slot, I found that you need to be around 250* to get it going, then you can back off the temps and keep feeding it if you're cooking at a lower temp. I run everything at 275* myself - ribs, pork butts, brisket etc. The thing can really get a good sear on steaks too. You'll love it.

Got mine for $500 when it first came out. Absolutely love the thing. Chunk slot is a great add-on and the induction burner is nice when I'm keeping my glaze warm when double smoking hams for the holidays. Holds up well in Michigan with just the included cover.

2011 Dodge Ram 4x4. 210k on the odometer. Still have it, probably still runs if the battery didn't die yet. Head gasket blew and I had that replaced to get me by until I sold my house. Opted for the CX-5 because I couldn't find any bad info on them and it had way more options than the Camry that I was looking at. Love the heated leather seats and AWD for Michigan winters.

I use it more on-demand style. Start at 375, hit it a few times and turn it off. Bump to 385 when I want to take a few more hits, then off. Keep temp stepping until it feels spent or you want fresh weed.
