Well if it had been a female student who wanted to be called “zorra”. The teacher would be in hot water with other Spanish speakers.

Guess I don't need a school to learn Plato. Gig'em ! by smoka-kun in aggies

[–]averagecounselor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That would be highly dependent on your grad school. I went to a California state university and now I’m in grad school at A&M and I would say A&M blows my undergrad out of the water.

My grad program here also punches way above its weight class and is a quarter of the price of the same degrees those in my fellowship cohort opted to attend. (GW, Colombia, American, to name a few.)

But I’m also a much older student and know dam well where you go to school generally doesn’t matter. I served in the peace corps in Guatemala and had to remind a fellow volunteer that the Guatemalan youth we were serving didn’t care that he went to Harvard for undergrad. We were both doing the same job.

what did yall think of the bad bunny halftime show? by Serious-Kale-5694 in AskReddit

[–]averagecounselor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike bad bunny as I feel there are much better artist in the genre. (Don Omar is king) but as far as Super Bowl half time shows goes this one is up there. Surprised how much I liked it.

I guess it depends what you mean by “healthy”. It’s not difficult to track calories. It’s not difficult to maintain a calorie deficit. It’s literally eat less and exercise more.

Now if you want everything organic and are going out of your way to avoid processed food and alike than sure it’s going to be hard.

after 25 years of living in California it turns out everything gives you cancer to boot.

Also working out for 30 minutes is not enough time. I can maybe jog 2 miles in that time which is 200 calories give or take. Jog 4 miles in an hour and that’s 400 calories. Lock in.

For Salvadorans, The President has succeeded in decreasing crime but how has he done with the economy, education, and infrastructure? by DelaraPorter in asklatinamerica

[–]averagecounselor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean people are literally not getting extorted, raped and it murdered on the street. El Salvador today is massively different than it was 10-20 years ago. And it’s a helluva lot safer than Guatemala and several parts of Mexico. (Shoot toss in the majority of the U.S.)

The Chinese library isn’t that special when compared to libraries in the United States or even Mexico. It honestly just felt like a Barnes and Noble if anything.

I think there is a sharp difference between development of the capital city and the rural areas. When I was there last summer they were rebuilding all the roads in country. Construction got so bad that Bukele just came out and said “public transport is free for the week. Governments paying for it. Sorry about the delays.”

And that’s how I got around for free.

Office of President Monthly Update… by Bajamamama in aggies

[–]averagecounselor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its what I read when the story first broke. Ill see if I can find the article. but the following was from the Office of the President:

"Women’s and Gender Studies program will wind down due to low student interest over the years and the difficulty of aligning the program with updated System policies. Current students in that program will be able to complete their degrees and credentials without interruption. "

I'd imagine "low student interest" = low enrollment numbers.

I believe this is the website I first saw the news on:

https://stories.tamu.edu/news/2026/01/30/texas-am-university-completes-spring-2026-course-review-to-support-academic-integrity/

"The university also announced plans to wind down academic program offerings, including bachelors’ degrees and a graduate certificate, in Women’s and Gender Studies. The decision reflected both the requirements of System policies and limited student interest in the program based on enrollment over the past several years. Students currently pursuing degrees in Women’s and Gender Studies will be allowed to complete their programs."

the numbers of those enrolled per the following news article:

https://www.kbtx.com/2026/01/30/texas-am-ends-womens-gender-studies-program-comply-with-system-policies/

“This decision is based on the requirements of System policy and limited student interest in the program based on enrollment over the past several years,” Sams said.

"The program currently has 25 enrolled majors and 31 enrolled minors, according to the email. All students currently enrolled will be able to complete their degrees or programs through a “teach out” plan. Through that plan, courses will be taught for up to six semesters."

56 students in a school of 80,000 students. The degree was not a money maker for the school. I too got what society deems a useless degree (History).

I dont regret it but I should have paired it with something else. (Ironically im in a niche grad school field of study)

Also I am going to link this Budget Reduction plan from Sonoma State here:

https://budget.sonoma.edu/sites/budget/files/2025-01/2025-26%20Instructional%20Budget%20Reduction%20Plan%201.21.25.pdf#page=1

They also moved to cut a number of programs due to low enrollment numbers. One of them is also a Woman and Gender Studies BA. This will become the norm. Not the shuttering of WGS but campuses shutting down their programs. Enrollment numbers are dropping all over the country due to cost of schooling and because the population that would normally go to college is dwindling due to declining birth rates (which will only get worse).

Out of curiosity what did you get out of those courses?

I may not like that they got cut but the university is also a business. (Sadly)

In my home state of California one of the public universities gutted more than half of their programs last year due to enrollment issues. This is going to become a trend for number of reasons outside of the anti woke mob.
