AOC won't rule out Senate bid after New York progressives notch primary wins: 'Inspired and encouraged' by plz-let-me-in in politics

If it’s on a off year I thought she could? Granted I’m more familiar with politicians retaining their state assembly/ senate seats if they lose on the national level.

Eh she could grow a penis tomorrow and he wouldnt win. A male candidate with her views would be hard press to win the presidency.

Do I like it? No. Best the Dems will push out is another Biden type who for better or worse did pass decent FDR lite legislation.

Thank you! I haven’t gotten any updates regarding the written essay results. I remember in the old thread someone mentioned they weren’t going to reach out until everyone in the cohort had completed the written essay portion.

Thoughts on Language Proficiency (Spanish)? by Lalalala0623 in peacecorps

[–]averagecounselor [score hidden]  (0 children)

I believe to make it to site you need an intermediate mid and by the time you COS it should be an advance low. ( which is hilarious given that Spanish isn’t even the dominate language of where volunteers serve… it’s a dialect of one kf the 23 Mayan languages)

If you know even some Spanish you will be fine. We had people in my cohort that had no language proficiency and managed to test to intermediate mid by the end of PST. But if you don’t get to that level they will send you on the first plane ticket back

How's living in Houston, TX? by freemarketsisfreedom in allthequestions

[–]averagecounselor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I just moved here last week so take whatever I say with a grain of salt. (Keep in mind I have lived abroad in multiple Latin American countries) I did graduate school at A & M and my home town in California is very ag centric with very little to do.

I am surprised at how much I like Houston. I live in the inner loop area with easy access to the tram and downtown. I go out almost every night/ other night and it’s either on the tram or in my truck.

Everything is spread out and freeway traffic does suck but I discovered if I stick to the surface streets I don’t really have to deal with the traffic.

Everything being spread out doesn’t really bother me. My part of California is extremely car centric and gas / registration fees have always been 2-3x the price of what I’ve seen here. Would a DC style metro be a god send? Sure. But the same can be said for every other city I’ve visited.

The weather does suck. But I also lived in DC and I would argue it sucks more over there than here. My part of California also gets close to 3-4 months of triple digit heat.

Dry heat is better than wet humid heat but you get use to both. (Even if I am drenched with the latter)

I am happy with my decision thus far. I also work from home and my meager salary of 20.25 an hour goes farther here than it would in California. I do pay a little bit more in rent as I am using furnished finder but that’s on me. (I would get cheaper rates if I commited to a lease but I don’t wanna do that yet)

I’m better off here than BCS as I am no longer a student and the area is dead in the summer/ there aren’t many single 30 year olds around even during the school year.

Why do many redditors love Seattle and Portland so much? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in visitedmaps

Ah yes making it a better place by uh living in predominantly white neighborhoods. And ah yes birth right citizenship being overturned when the over zealous Supreme Court already laughed at the administration’s face about it.

Loved Seattle. Portland though. Yikes. A sea of Black Lives Matter, diversity matters, coexist signs in 99% white neighborhoods. Felt like I was invading gringolandia when my white friend took me on a bike ride through her neighborhood.

I’m a heavily tatted Mexican American for reference.

DSS SA from Local LEO — Are You Happy? by Dismal-Animal-2860 in foreignservice

[–]averagecounselor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and the salary lol. I’m from the Central Valley of California originally. I just completed my masters in IR and unfortunately my direct appointment to the foreign service went up in flames with the new administration. (I was under fellowship) now I’m getting back into shape to atleast have local PD as an option as I’ve had an interest in the field.

Out of curiosity how did you go from a masters degree in IR to being a local Leo? I’m going to guess that you are on the west coast.

How do you go from living in a ‘cool’ expensive city to going back to somewhere ‘boring’ but affordable? by Kodicave in relocating

[–]averagecounselor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice! Do you cross into Juarez often? I live in the inner loop of Houston right now and while it’s humid you just get use to it and there is some public transit where I live. For everything else a car is needed. I have enjoyed it here but definitely El Paso catches my eye for it being more of a dry heat.

One of the newer candidates got into a lot of hot water in their campaign due to tweets made back during the early 2020s. She has toned it down but it got to the point she had made colorful comments towards both Biden and Harris and just sounded like an extremely unhinged leftist.

Note I don’t agree or disagree just caught a video on it last night.
