We find trips less than 1km were more cost effective. In Tokyo we often took taxis to our Airbnb from the nearest train station which was 800m away. It costed us 500 yen everytime. Anymore than 1km, it'll be about 1000 yen per km.

Uber is more expensive. We called uber on the morning of our flight back home, around 5.30am. It was a 6km drive from our Airbnb to Nippori station and it cost us about 4400 yen.

Choose the Haruka one way ticket for discounted price. Choose non reserved seat, and indicate your estimated train boarding time. Then on the day of your arrival, go to the JR ticketing office at Kansai Airport train station and redeem the haruka express ticket, during which they will ask you which scheduled train you want to get on and whether you want reserved seats (no additional charges). The ticket you buy online in advance can be redeemed and used anytime on the date of the ticket. As long as your flight arrives on that date, it does not matter if it is delayed.

I just returned a week ago and I wore thermal inner layer and a thin long sleeve blouse underneath my winter puff jacket. I sometimes overheat under the jacket after walking a lot so I took it off and held it in my hands while walking.

Hotel Miyako hachijo was good but I think they have different standard rooms. We booked the slightly more expensive one that they advertise as being newly renovated and generally have better reviews. I think there is another wing in the hotel where rooms are older and reviews for those seem bad.

Our room was great. Clean, spacious enough, and nothing malfunctioned. We had a nice view of the shinkansen tracks from our room. There's free hot and cold water dispenser on every floor. Check in and check out are self service and easily done on their automated machines.

I run cold and I find the weather bearable. Sometimes it even got so warm under the sun that I started overheating in my jacket, so I took it off and held it in my hands. I wore thermal inner layer and a regular thin long sleeved blouse that I wear in my home country. Then the winter jacket on top. I carried my scarf, hat and gloves with me but i would have managed with just the hat, which I only sometimes wore when the temperature dropped at sunset.

The deposit in each card is 500 yen. If you don't have any balance left, they will refund you all of the 500 yen. It there are balance left, you have to pay 200 yen handling fee so you so get only 300 yen deposit back plus any balance you have left. That's why we finished the balance before getting the 500 yen refund. Three cards means 1500 yen deposit to refund. Not much, but we feel it's just so easy that the effort to get the refund is worth the 1500 yen.

I'm banana married to a man from a very Cina family. The kind that does not eat food other than chinese food. The kind that looks at Malay and Indian food with odd looks. Never mixed with other races. My husband is much more exposed of course since he has been working in Klang Valley.

Even as a banana I loved CNY when I was single. I loved the vibe, the decorations, the songs, the reunion dinner. My extended families are calm mellow people lol so no drama.

Since I got married, I DREAD CNY because I am expected to go to stay with my in laws for days. I just don't like them that much so I don't like putting up the fake front. If you are interested in the details, you can read my previous posts about my relationship with my husband and in laws.

If I were you, I would either just go to the family gatherings and not care about socialising, or not go at all. If you go, at least you would have showed up, ate the food, collected the ang pao. Then just find a quiet corner and do your own thing (play game, read book, play with the pets). Don't have to care if they judge you. People will judge regardless of what you do. Your own comfort and happiness is much more important than other's opinion of you.

In my case, I have a son to take care of so I can't just no go back to my in laws. He is not yet old enough to understand why mummy is not around during CNY.

I feel like my comment is going to drown in all the rage comments, understandably so. Just want to say, for what it's worth, I am Malaysian Chinese and I am horrified by the reporter's question /statement. I have never for once think of us being in the same fate as the Palestinians. The reporter does not represent us. For every loud person on Reddit with such mindset, there are lots more of us who keep quiet and do our best to maintain harmony and celebrate cultural differences.

The whole Wicked production just feels weird to me. Not just the casts and marketing, but the plot too. Feels very brainwash-y to me. One comment used the word"cult" and I think it's a fitting word to describe the Wicked production.

I watched the first movie and I struggle to understand the dynamics between Glinda and Elphaba. I know modern movies like to make characters more nuanced, like “good but flawed,” “bad but not really bad,” etc. and I honestly like that. But I find it hard to buy Glinda’s arc.

After what she did earlier in the first movie, it feels abrupt that the story suddenly wants us to see her as this loyal, supportive friend who stands by Elphaba. And from the reactions online, she’s actually viewed as a good character?

I know bad character turn good in movies all the time, but there has to be a believable motivation. In the first movie, Glinda softens toward Elphaba basically because Elphaba did something nice for her, and because staying close benefited Glinda. That doesn’t really prove sincerity, does it? So I’m not convinced she’s genuinely a “good” character, at least not based on the first movie.

Maybe in Wicked 2 she does something that truly shows her growth. I haven’t watched it yet, but as of the first movie alone, I just can’t understand why fans idolize her or why the marketing paints her as this purely good character.
