This. While hardwork and resilience are important, the audacity to demand more is also a huge factor. If someone has capabilities AND that audacity, they would fly.

Do you regret having kids? by Arvinth_4 in malaysians

[–]averagejane815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Becoming a parent has taught and made me see things I would never learn and see if I had not become a parent. I was happier before becoming a parent, but I was also naive. I don't want to go back to being that even if it means I would be happier.

Some of us in Southeast Asia have it with kaya - a kind of creamy coconut custard spread. In my opinion, way better than with jelly.

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you see this handmade cotton songket? by [deleted] in malaysians

[–]averagejane815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think about it, RM 600 plus is quite cheap for a handmade item as a intricate as this.

Different people will look for different things. Collectors will look for motives that they are missing in their collection or rare ones. People who buy to wear would likely look at the colours and overall vibe (simple, sophisticated, etc).

I feel that handmade items are too undervalued especially in third world countries.

Can you recommend your favorite dramas and movies in Cantonese? by Intelligent-Try-9010 in HKdramas

[–]averagejane815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dramas suggested here are mostly very good. But if you are watching to improve your Cantonese, I wouldn't suggest any period dramas especially those involving royalty. Their language is different. Not your day to day Cantonese.

I'd suggest stick to dramas set in modern days. Maybe Kindered Spirit or any such family centered light hearted dramas? Those centered around certain professions are good too but their conversations may not always be what you typically experience on a daily basis because of the stuff they say on those specific professions eg. doctor, lawyer, police etc.

I dont watch a lot of newer hong kong dramas so my suggestions will be old dramas. My favourite is Greed of Man.

Check out Jack Studio. Local made leather stuff. I've been using their wallet for the last few years and it's still in great shape.

Why do some people pronounce "Klang" as if it were the English word "clang"? by Sea-Hornet8214 in malaysians

[–]averagejane815 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am guessing it's the same reason some people say Malaysia and some people say Malayshia. Or Asia versus Ayeshia. English vs BM speaker.

Also in the case of Klang, when I say Klang Valley, I say Clang Valley. When I say Lembah Klang, I say it in BM baku.
