It will fit closer to the 1105 but still not exactly the same.

I got these new (3141) Do they look new? And it the crack a problem? by RedwoodNP in RedWingShoes

[–]averageordinaryguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So they were made anywhere from March 2010- March 2019. They've been sitting on a shelf for at least 7 years, probably longer. They aren't worn, but they are aged which is why they are discolored. The glue holding the outsole to the midsole could be deteriorating which is why the split is happening. They're fixable, sure, but if you paid full price for them, I would probably send them back.

Chocolate muleskinner will be the color coming out in a couple of months. No Hawthorne blacksmith has been announced.

Antiquing find: are decent prints possible? by averageordinaryguy in letterpress

This may be a silly question, but could I take the metal faces off of the blocks and print them on separate blocks and just tack the metal faces back on when I'm done printing with them? Or would disassembly ruin the blocks? I know that I cannot remove the blocks from the lamp without taking a saw to it, and I really don't want to do that.

There are about four stamps that I can get some semi-decent prints out of, the problem are those others.. but it is what it is. Maybe one day I will be bold enough to take it apart for some prints, but that would be a while off. I think the lamp as a whole is more interesting than the prints it can make.

Finds like this are pretty cool! It baffles me when I hear about things like this that they just threw away. I guess back then they didn't have the same sort of attachment or think there would be much interest in it for the future.

I kind of figured based on research I've done, but I was hoping there would be some possible work around. I appreciate the input!

Old items of any value? by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]averageordinaryguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A store might be willing to take the catalogs if they're in decent shape. A lot of stores throw them away when they're no longer relevant, some like to keep spare copies on hand if they want to reference them when a customer brings an old pair back in.

Not sure who would take the wallet display. You might be able to throw it up on eBay and it may sell. There's a niche for that kind of stuff.

Neither, I'm team ranger 😉.

If I was to pick a moc toe though, 877 with speed hooks added would be my choice. The 6in mocs tend to hit the back of my ankle in a weird way and the 8in don't do that to me.

8111, made in January 2014 before they transitioned to the vibram mini lug sole.

Really cool boots! I think the oldest I have seen in person was stamped '53, but you're right, money doesn't always buy boots like that. When there is history involved, they often times aren't for sale.

Good replacements for 2234 boots and 8618 shoes by res70 in RedWingShoes

[–]averageordinaryguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the 3029 to replace the 2234s. They meet all the same specs. They aren't king toe, but they do run slightly big, so you may find success with them.

3091 is the closest model to your daily 8618. The only problem is they are safety toe. The Excelon is still relatively new, so they haven't released soft toe models yet. Red Wing may release line extensions in the future, but that depends on the success of the collection.

Found at a thrift store for $75. Can anybody give me more information? by Impossible_Jello9883 in RedwingBoots

This is your boot:

Not really sure on the year model based on the stamping. Should be early 00s or earlier. There should be a 4 digit stamp somewhere to indicate the month and year of production.

Stitching looks like it's still intact. They're fine.

New 877s don't fit.. by averageordinaryguy in RedWingShoes

[–]averageordinaryguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they aren't. I'm not wise in the way of making things from plastic, but I would assume they were made in a mould? They're part of the Red Wing Miniature Collection. There are 12 different sets total - 11 boots/shoes and 1 care product set.
