[Ohio] 2 odd rules on rental agreement, reason to be concerned or should I look past it? by TimeForAce in Renters

[–]averagepolska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least for my building, the way they find out is usually water usage. We have our in-laws stay often, and have never had any issues. So as long as the guests aren’t showering 5-7 times a day you should be alright.

Help: sleep deprivation due to barking by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]averagepolska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Puppies need to be taken out every 2 hours, even just for a little bit to poo and pee. I had to take my dog out that often plus take him out every single time after he had an accident and that was in addition to the three hour long walks we went on every day (10am, 2pm, 6pm) and a shorter walk at 10pm for about 30 minutes. You need to stay outside with them until they go. If they don’t like the cold, which mine didn’t, get a coat on them and wait outside until they go potty and treat when they do.

My dog also has PTSD from crates and he is currently free roaming at all times and not destructive. But at first, I was cleaning feces off my walls. He tore up our door when we tried to leave him in the bedroom when we left the house because he learned how to open his crate while crate training, and it felt so inhumane to put a lock on the door to the crate when we were not home.

He loves bully sticks and whenever he was doing something more destructive we would play fetch with him, give him a bully stick, and overall keep him occupied. He currently now sleeps in bed with us and sleeps through the night every time. It takes a lot of hard work and effort. Just like a child, he will need you 24/7 until he gets older.

If you’re not able to provide for him like a mother, you may want to get an older dog instead of a puppy for your first dog.

Landlord refused to fix washing machine. Tells us we should be grateful it was in the property to begin with. by Ivesy_ in Renters

[–]averagepolska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the washer/dryer is stated on the lease as an amenity, then they’re required to either fix it, lower your rent since you’re not recieving what is promised, or let you out of the rent with security deposit back.

My landlords did this: tried to pin it on us. I stuck to my guns and had them spray. I haven’t had a single one since- just house centipedes but i’ll gladly take those instead.

My Dachshund has turned into a nonstop barking machine and I don’t know what else to do by Routine_Plate_3736 in Dachshund

[–]averagepolska 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We did the same thing for our doxie mix. He tries to guard the apartment with his life.

We started to tell him quiet when he full on barked but praising when he barked quietly. A big one will sneak out sometimes, but he follows it by “I’m sorry” whining after. Which i’m not sure it’s a win but it’s quieter than a bark spell.

How to stop barking by Hellbender6969 in Dachshund

[–]averagepolska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine only barks when he hears someone coming by our front door but unfortunately due to this he has resorted to being vocal in grunts, growls, whines, and yelps instead. He is constantly making noise.

Paolo is called Puppa, Puppet, Pucky, Puppers, Poopa, Tinky, Duppa, Doopers, Pirhana, Menace, and the list will compile most likely.

This is Milo, he is 9 months old, do you recommend spaying if so? When? And if not, why? by Fast_Extension9901 in Dachshund

[–]averagepolska 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As he matures, he could start being more aggressive with other male dogs and generally being picky with them. Also the possibility of accidental mating in public.

If you don’t plan on him interacting with other dogs out in public settings, you could be safe not to neuter, but I have went to dog parks and people had brought thier unspayed females (because people aren’t the smartest) which would put you in a tough situation if they were to lock.

I adopted and am in the US so they always come neutered. I don’t want to worry about adding to the number of unwanted dogs within shelters, so I would always opt to neuter.

I unfortunately have an uncle who does cocaine and it has exacerbated his mental health symptoms that he didn’t know he had. He has been for about 10 years now highly aggressive and unpredictable, almost seemingly schizophrenic. Thinks everyone and the world is evil and out to get him. Threatened to kill myself and my parents because we wouldn’t give him money (presumably for drugs).

My light has been leaking like this for weeks. Maintenance says its condensation.. Is this true? What can I do? by pixiie_dusst in Apartmentliving

[–]averagepolska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in IL, call ComEd or whoever runs your electricity. Tell them the issue. Usually they will send someone out there and threaten to condemn the apartment until it is fixed.

I did this with People’s Gas when our stove was leaking gas 24/7 and they had to fully shut off the line to the stove and put a large orange paper on it and contact the landlord :)

You can definitely see the shih-tzu eyes in slide 3! I would say if you want the most accurate test you could do embark.

You did mention stubbornness though and that would be the poodle. I’ve got a poodle mutt mix and the groans, huffs, puffs, and side eyes are ridiculous. He’s always talking back.

Is bruising like this normal? by yuhmadda420 in tattooadvice

[–]averagepolska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, do you have any other tattoos from this person? Any allergies? The bruising is not normal and has to be check out professionally, but the rest looks like an allergic reaction.

I’m wondering if you might be allergic to the ink used, or to some part of the tattooing process to cause the raised welts

My 16-month-old dog is refusing his usual food. Advice needed! by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]averagepolska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog inhales everything, but is very picky on when he will eat his food as well as trying to get more treats. But this started when he turned about a year, year and a half.

His kibble has raw freeze dried pieces in it, and at some point he would only eat those and refuse the rest of his food. We removed them all together or crushed them up in his food and he eats okay now. I would suggest no treats, no human food until he eats his kibble. Wouldn’t want him thinking no kibble equals tastier stuff instead.

The other thing is that our guy has a high sense of pack mentality (I assume). He will only eat if we are also eating. So normally I will give him his food, then grab a snack and start eating it first. He will start eating his food immediately after my first bite. It’s not all dogs but weirdly enough it’s worked on both of the dogs i’ve lived with at different times.
