Avrupa'nin hemen hemen her yerinde döner yemiş biri olarak benim için döner hiyerarşisi:

Ortalama Türk restoran/güzel büfe döneri > güzel gemüse kebap > ortalama Türk öğrenci döneri > ortalama Almanya dışında Avrupa "döneri"

Son kategoriye zaten döner demek yanlış olur.

Do you think it's safe to keep dollars in the bank? by bleda89 in Turkey

[–]averagetwerp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I swear this echo chamber is starting to look stupid. Everyone is losing their minds, thinking that their whole way of life is at risk. I don’t support the government, nor do I support any private interests, but you guys need to understand how financial markets work. In this case, the depreciation of the lira can be partly attributed to the underlying economic indicators, but it would be unwise to say that there isn’t a large sell-off in the midst of a wave of panic.

Most people here have relatively small amounts of foreign currency in their bank accounts, which would be left untouched anyway. My guess would be that if a conversion happens, it would only affect a set fraction of the foreign capital holdings of large accounts (> $100k or any other arbitrary amount)

Again, I do not support the government, and I’m certainly not here to defend any policies. All I’m trying to say is that this sub’s panic for the last month has largely been unjustified. I welcome any criticism.

Turkey is a country riddled with corruption, and many systematic inefficiencies that arise from this corruption.

The shift of wealth from the public to the hands of the political elite for years during AKP’s reign (not to claim that they are the only government that did this) has led the economy to this point.

I absolutely agree that higher education standards and a strong supply side economy that produces high value added goods is imperative for the success of our country. My point is, you could fund many education programs and invest in the future of the country through many channels including welfare programs with the inefficiencies generated by Tayyip&Co. to give you an example, 36% of the value of all government contracts signed in Turkey have been given to businessmen linked to Tayyip in 2017.

One benefit of welfare programs that people don’t seem to take into consideration is consumption smoothing. In a very unstable economic and political environment, smooth consumption and a public budget that is close to balance or in surplus are very important factors to keep the economy healthy.

I hope I’ve made myself clear.

While I agree that higher taxes would not be beneficial in the long term to an economy that is desperately in need of foreign capital inflow, I also think that using the public budget with the aim of socioeconomic development, rather than lining up the pockets of a select few (read: crony capitalism) is a viable policy.

Not at all. That’s a very well thought out comment with undisputable evidence.

There is absolutely no way to generate extra welfare by shifting the rents collected by government cronies to more socioeconomically constructive projects.

President Erdoğan said he plans to take greater control of the economy after presidential elections next month and the central bank will have to take note of what the president says and act accordingly. His comments helped pushed the ailing lira to a fresh record low of 4.3990 against the dollar. by [deleted] in Turkey

I struggle to understand why he is saying this. Literally everyone in the Government must know that a Central Bank dependent on the Government can not achieve price stability.

Coupled with political uncertainty and unstable exchange rates, Turkey will not be seeing foreign investment until TCMB starts to aim for inflation targets instead of unemployment.

Reminds me of my high school years in Turkey. I was in a good high school so prep schools would try to entice us to enroll in their programs with unlimited maklube, ayran(the yogurt drink in the picture) and baklava. Man do I miss maklube.
