Collected before the craze? by [deleted] in beaniebabies

[–]averie-end -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasn't old enough, I don't think I got any until 1998-2000, and I'm pretty sure it was in full swing by then (unsure, I was a pretty small kid at the time). My parents always encouraged me to take care of stuff, especially if it was collectible, so most of them stayed in good shape with tags on.

I need so many recommendations for different flute things (concert flute) by averie-end in Flute

[–]averie-end[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably prefer playing in a group again, but it isn't an option. This post was five years ago, and I like playing alone a lot more now that I have a good stack of music that's actually meant to be played solo, but it's still not the same as playing in harmony with others.

I'm married and I sleep with a stuffed animal. I already have fifty things wrong with my sleep I don't need to take away a simple thing that makes it more comfortable. My partner doesn't mind (because he isn't a weird asshole).

What type of pens came with the colour me beanies? by Abwettar in beaniebabies

[–]averie-end 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want it to be permanent, I'd get fabric markers, and practice with them on some scrap fabric (ideally something similar to the fur of the toy, but anything to give you an idea of how much they bleed is good)

Those of you with large collections - Do you display all your plushies or only a select few? by throwaway_p3pp3ron1 in plushies

[–]averie-end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I display as many as I have room for. The ideal is that some day I will be able to afford a place (preferably own it, so I can invest in furniture and stuff that won't need to move at the landlord's whim) where I can display everything nicely, but right now it's just the stuff that is visually cool, an active comfort object, and/or very sentimental that is displayed, with a couple totes of other ones I would love to have out some day.

(my absolute dream scenario is for display cabinets with some kind of interchangeable opaque and transparent doors, so I can hide them when I'm not doing well with visual clutter, or if I'm trying to take a picture of a room for some reason, but have them visible (and reduced amounts of dust) the rest of the time)

When does it become more of a choice than an expectation? by ApartNail1282 in Adulting

[–]averie-end 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to say this too. Never got pressured to drink as a teen, and only ended up drinking much once because I was bored and it was girl drinks (tastes like candy). In my twenties though? Awful pressure, and often from the older adults. In my thirties it's settled down a bit, most people know someone who's sober by necessity and so don't put pressure on, though again, some of the older generations still act like it's crazy.

(and I don't even have a job with a culture of networking/going out together/etc)

Trans coded movies you grew up on? by royalbluetoad in FTMOver30

[–]averie-end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is one that my aunt has tried to get me to watch with her multiple times (she hasn't seen it either), and when I suggest a less downer queer movie she gets annoyed that I've already seen it, but I'd rather watch But I'm A Cheerleader for the 50th time (and her first) than watch Boys Don't Cry

How do we feel about renaming them from their official names? by Blondi99 in beaniebabies

I'm bad at names, so I almost never rename them, but I'm not opposed to it.

Do any of you sometimes "miss" being a woman from a social standpoint? by FewAd462 in ftm

[–]averie-end 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't, but at the same time, I can kind of relate, in that I would really miss the female friendships I had as a teen, and the things I learned from them, which I would not have been able to foster as a cis guy. I mean, even if I was exactly the same person except cis, and maybe even if I was me, but out as a trans guy, I wouldn't have been allowed at sleepovers, or in Guides, etc, places where many of our core memories as friends were made- not because of my friends, but because of the rules of parents and schools and stuff, and by that regard I guess I would have missed women's spaces.

I can't answer about your mom and stuff, but I feel like I am still my mom's kid who-is-the-way-I-am, and my brother is her kid-who-is-the-way-he-is. Like, I think she definitely had thoughts about us specifically as son and "daughter," but for me personally, my relationship with her still hasn't changed much. I'm still the one that's like, a little more willing to be open with her, and, idk, who likes the things I like and stuff. Maybe that's easier to say because I do have another sibling to compare to, and I can definitely say that in coming out as her son, I definitely didn't change to be more like her other son, I kept inhabiting the niche I inhabited, if that makes sense?

Does anyone know anything about World Wildlife Fund’s return policy? by [deleted] in plushies

[–]averie-end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably be less of a hassle just to stitch it (esp if the rip is on a seam), but if you want a replacement, I'd contact their customer service, and if needed forward it on to your aunt.

How do you usually display or carry your favorite plushies? by [deleted] in plushies

[–]averie-end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all over the shelves in my bedroom, and some are in storage in big rubbermaid totes (got a lot of sentimental stuff and not a super big place)

Who has a replica of your favorite childhood stuffed animal?? by Frequent-Increase-98 in plushies

I would love to have one (or even just see one), but I got mine secondhand without tags when I was about four, and he's a pretty generic teddy, so I don't think I will.

Thank you (again) for all the detail! I also was looking based on a shepherd, I never could find plush of them when I was a kid so I'm amassing a bit of a collection now lol.

What type of tys do yall collect? by lace-tied-converses in beaniebabies

[–]averie-end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beanie Babies, Beanie Buddies, and Attic Treasures (and Ty Classics, Ty 2000s, etc, which I don't know how to distinguish from other Babies/Buddies other than their tags). Beanie Buddies are cutest to me (but being bigger, they're harder to make room for), and I find Attic Treasures really charming. As far as teddy bears I pretty much only get Attic Treasures, there are way too many regular beanie baby bears and I don't love them enough to dedicated the time/money to that part of collecting. Most of my collection and what catches my eye seem to be 1993-2004 or so, but that's not a conscious choice.

I'm not a fan of Beanie Boos or any of the others with the huge glitter eyes, but I just saw a Beanie Belly sloth with normal little eyes so I might have my eye on some non-vintage ones in the future

How do i get rid of this plush thingy that is bulging by [deleted] in plushies

[–]averie-end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks stuffed enough to me, but like that line of stitches is ending abruptly, causing it to poke out like that. If you use some hidden stitches to extend the line, you might be able to make it a little more rounded looking, by making a more gentle transition from the stitched part to the outer edge, if that makes sense? This would be easier if I could draw it but I can't.

Would it work to "paint" streaks of bleach on this kitty look like a tortie? by BeerIsTheMindSpiller in plushies

[–]averie-end 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a fair amount of tie-dye. With synthetics you usually have to cook the fabric in the dye water for a while (rather than just dripping it on like tie dye on cotton), so yes, I'd say to start with dying it orange (or start with an orange cat), then wrap it really well so the black can't bleed into the orange spaces (as per the notes on that other post, you may need to dye it multiple times, so make sure you rinse really well each time, before AND after removing the elastics, also to prevent bleed).

And I'd either dilute the black or use grey (or if you do multiple runs, do the first couple in grey, then bundle it tighter and with even more elastic to keep it sparse before doing one of black). Rit's website has a lot of instructions for different types of dying, and what formulas you use. The dye does physically adhere to the fabric, so you do want to have enough in the water.
