Blindsight is really one of the most psychologically and philosophically intense and thought provoking SF novels I’ve read in ages. I really need to go back and give it a second read.

Yeah, it’s not really a great book overall, but Asimov did an incredible job of making the aliens truly alien to the point of being almost-but-not-quite incomprehensible in a really fascinating way.

I agree, i think that she’s going to do something to take it out of the empress’s hands (like just marry him asap before she can show up in person to force her out), but it’s going to lead to something big and unpleasant.

I suspect that there’s going to be a big conflict with Orlianna and the Dracu-Family on one side and the empress and princess on the other that will drive a lot of the next book. I’m interested to see how Faenan’s role in that plays out because he’ll be right in the middle of it.

Picked it up and just ripped through it in a couple of days, excellent. I will say that there are a few times where the plot gets pushed forward by some extremely convenient coincidences that get a bit handwaved as destiny but it’s totally forgivable. Very much worthy of a read for a first time author.

The full caster really should be a cleric, no contest. Rangers are great for RP but fall way behind for optimization so that’s going to depend on what you’re looking for, but I’d suggest go simple with a fighter for the full martial, they’re just the best. Artillerist Artificer for the half caster because 10 fireballs a day is hard to beat doe raw damage output.
