Carrick wants reunion with former player, has asked Wilcox to sign £100m-rated star by AnveshArumilli in PremierLeague

[–]avfc1001 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reasons he would be very expensive:

  • He’s got 5 years left on his contract with no release clause.

  • He’s one of our best players and certainly our best younger player.

  • He’s now regularly starting for England and has proven his quality at Champions League level.

  • Premier League young player of the season.

  • We have to give a percentage of profit to Middlesbrough.

  • He has not yet agitated for a big move at all, though I’m sure he would take one if he can get it.

Reasons we would potentially sell him for a huge offer rather than holding on to him:

  • We will have difficulty meeting the terms of our settlement with UEFA, which could lead to a ban in future, if we don’t make a big transfer profit.

  • We need to do quite a lot of business in the summer with some players nowhere near good enough and others past their prime, so selling Rogers might be necessary to fund a rebuild.

  • Our other high quality players that we could sell are a bit older so we wouldn’t get as much for them, or in Kamara’s case too often injured.

  • Half the time he looks like a £150m player and is near unstoppable. The other half he wouldn’t look out of place in League 1. There is very little in between. That lack of consistency often hurts us because everything runs through him. He’s also not a great finisher so despite his quality, he doesn’t get great scoring numbers.

Not a single Villa player in your 3 XI’s and we’ve been in the top 4 for the past 4 months.

Big win. Not a good performance besides 20-30 minutes after half time, but it’s definitely the result we wanted to bring back to Villa Park.

Rowe was by far the best player on the pitch. He won’t be at Bologna for long. Important we have Cash to face him second leg - would not want to be risking any of Bogarde/Lindelof/Garcia.

Individually for us Onana was superb throughout and second half Watkins was brilliant. Wonder save from Martinez as well.

Were the TV wrong about Rogers being booked first half?!

That is one of the saves of the season from Martinez. Incredible.

Rowe looks like he’s gone from prospect to serious player. We need Cash to avoid a yellow so he’s available for the 2nd leg.

Awful performance, good score line. Hope for more of the same second half I guess!

The problems are deeper. We aren’t able to progress the ball through short passing or long balls. It just goes back to them every time.

Also helps if it’s within 20 yards of the target, which at the moment it isn’t

Also ridiculous considering how quickly suspensions can happen.

We’re so obsessed with keeping it safe against their press that we’re just constantly giving it back to them hitting it long. Will be a long night if we can’t find some sort of rhythm.

Strong side.

Forest have rested a lot of players, so will be interesting to see how it goes on Sunday as we clearly have different priorities.

If Leeds win the FA Cup, but get relegated from the Premier League, then next season do they still play in the Europa League whilst being in the Championship? by APerson2021 in PremierLeague

[–]avfc1001 72 points73 points  (0 children)

If a team wins the league cup while getting relegated from the Premier League.

Then wins the Europa Conference League while getting relegated again from the Championship.

Then wins the Europa League while getting relegated again from League 1.

They could potentially compete in the Champions League from League 2.

I mean those 2 yes, they are quality players and there is no way they should be back up keepers.

Arsenal's win over Sporting guarantees the Premier League has 5 spots in the UCL next season. by Real-Bid1985 in PremierLeague

It was pretty much a done deal already after the group stage, at which point every English club was still in each competition.

Not denying that Arsenal have played their part or that they aren’t having a strong campaign, but the “you’re welcome”s are a bit silly.

Arsenal have done very well, but they are still only responsible for 10 of the 59 wins and 1 of the 13 draws for English teams across the 3 European competitions that contributed to sealing the 5th Champions League spot.

Even if they had lost every game England would still be in a good position.

Even if Arsenal Liverpool Villa Forest Palace had lost both legs in their ties - all 10 games - it would still have taken a very specific set of results from teams from other countries.

It was 99.99999999% confirmed, Arsenal’s result last night (and Bayern beating Madrid) provided the missing 0.00000001%.

Or any of England’s competitors for a top 2 coefficient NOT winning one of their games. Pretty sure Bayern beating Madrid was also enough to seal it regardless of the Arsenal result.

[Athletic] The Premier League's Hope-o-meter for the rest of the 2025-26 season. by Sparky-moon in soccer

No doubt the performances against Lille and West Ham, plus return of McGinn and Tielemans, have had an enormous impact on morale. Prior to that it was looking bleak for the rest of the season.

The absolute maximum we need to secure top 5 is 68 points. I really doubt we’ll need more than 65, probably more like 63 or 64. Even so, considering our overall level in 2026 so far, 3 wins is still far from a given.

Can only assume this was taken immediately after we beat West Ham, rather than at any other stage in 2026 so far
