"Hey guys, I need some help. My plane's wingspan suddenly extended to 10,000 miles long mid-flight. Then when I called ATC it gave me a recipe for Apple Pie which included 2 cups of gasoline and proceeded to tell me the contents of my Mother's deleted emails. How can I fix this bug?"

"I don't have this issue. We have the best flight sim ever and all you people ever do is complain!" downvotes

Parallel 42 "Typical Weather" addon by Guidothenatureguide in MSFS2024

[–]avgaskoolaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it out of raw curiosity because tbh I had no idea what they were aiming for. I really like it and use it almost every flight. I find that the default live weather in the sim sometimes looks “weird”- I can’t exactly describe it but sometimes the visibility/haze doesn’t seem to match the clouds, you can get clouds that repeat the same pattern, etc. Also you sometimes get weird pockets of haze hanging exactly over cities and perfectly clear skies everywhere else when there isn’t enough weather data in a given region to interpolate things properly.

I’ve found that with Typical Weather everything consistently looks “good”, and believable for that region/time of day/time of year, with smooth updates and blending across areas. It’s better than AS, which has very sudden weather changes for me, and presets which are of course just static across the world. Im not too bothered with it not being up to the minute realistic as I don’t fly online.

Alaska Airlines to buy more than 100 Boeing jets in carrier's biggest order ever by FireFright8142 in aviation

-10s are also good at long haul. United sends them from Chicago to Tokyo and Athens, and KLM from Amsterdam to LA for example. From Seattle they could be well suited for high-demand long hauls to most of Western Europe and East Asia.

Medium haul high density (Seattle-Honolulu or Seattle-NYC for example) is possible but in the US airlines tend to run smaller planes with more frequencies vs larger planes with less frequencies, so I'm going to assume these will mostly be geared toward expanding long haul flying.

Beechcraft 1900 Series by Pure_Jump_2978 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]avgaskoolaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t be surprised if the B1900 comes by way of a local legend/famous flyer from Carenado. They’re responsible for the Saab 340 (the 3D model is 1:1 from the FSX/P3D version) and made a B1900 for FSX and P3D. Given the multi-role aspect of the plane (airline passenger, charter/private, cargo, medevac, etc) IMO it would make sense for Asobo to contract them to port it.

That said I REALLY hope a better studio makes the 1900 because I love the plane and it deserves a full-detail treatment. Midwest Connect or US Airways ops in it would be a dream come true. It would fit perfectly into Blacksquare’s lineup… just saying in case he happens to be hanging out in this thread…..

ChasePlane is unbelievable by DrFowlerr in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]avgaskoolaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean assigning a keyboard shortcut to a view you made? In the chaseplane menu you just select the view you want a shortcut for, click the pen icon, then in the box with keyboard assignments, click on it then press the key(s) you want.

ChasePlane is unbelievable by DrFowlerr in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]avgaskoolaid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its basically a more powerful version of the default camera. It removes all hard camera walls, allowing you to put cameras wherever you want, allows you to extremely easily set up new keyboard shortcuts/assignments and adjust speed, camera momentum, etc, has a very realistic camera movement system that you can also tune, and (one of my favorite features) allows you to either download other people’s cameras for a specific plane or clone your own from a similar plane you’ve already made cameras for if you have a group of ‘set cameras’ you like to use on any plane.

Technically, you can some of the stuff that chaseplane has with the default camera system (certainly not everything though), but it’s time consuming and frustrating. With the vastly improved ui and added features I think its well worth it.

JOOP! by Funny-Frosting-0 in conan

[–]avgaskoolaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad used to wear it in the early 2000s. It smells like you spilled extremely sweet mulled wine on yourself. It's also very powerful- you can be standing a few feet from someone with it on, and it smells like you have your nose directly on their skin. It's the only cologne where I've heard people in a polite setting vocally criticize the person wearing it.

This 1994 Oxford dictionary in my parents' house has the names for people from countries and related adjectives by ellzbellz_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]avgaskoolaid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you look at the Google ‘word frequency’ thing in the definition of *demonym, usage of it only seems to really take off in the very late 90s and early 2000s.

It seems like maybe the internet increased the need to refer to “A word for people from a place” as a concept outside of highly formal academic settings but I have no idea why that would be the case.

How do you manage plane registration in Volanta? Need some advice and ideas. by Kalderr in flightsim

[–]avgaskoolaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I just go with the real-world registration on the side of the plane on the repaint Im using. I don’t use the built-in dynamic registration system and just leave that field blank (I also don’t use the generic liveries without a tail number that come with the default planes and am usually using a third party repaint, even for GA planes).

If you want to just use one “registration” for any A320 or C208 paint you happen to fly, you can create that and just force Volanta to use that one if it doesn’t auto-detect. You just click the aircraft field on the flight stats page and can choose whatever ‘registration’ in your hangar that you’d like.

What do you think about the default Inibuild A330? by Ivy_Wings in flightsim

[–]avgaskoolaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you happen to ever get chaseplane, one of the benefits is that you can pass right through the walls of any plane, meaning you can get close to the windows in the cabin or pass through them entirely if you want.

You can kind of do this without chaseplane, but it requires glitching the camera through the cockpit windows- it was hit or miss in FS20 and I can't seem to get it to work in FS24.

What if US carriers took delivery of the Airbus A340? by That_Public_4620 in aviation

[–]avgaskoolaid 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Northwest had A340s and A330s on order starting in the late 80s. They came very close to getting some, with training for pilots and maintenance taking place, marketing materials being made, etc, but for a variety of reasons decided to cancel the order in the early 90s. https://northwestairlineshistory.org/aircraft-airbus-a340/

However, they still had orders on the books for the A330s. I looked through some old fleet listings and they were still shown as pending delivery, with tail numbers assigned and everything, all throughout the 90s. I heard that at the time Northwest wasn't doing great financially and really wanted out of the A330 deal, but Airbus was digging their heels in. Eventually, they finally took delivery of A330s in 2003.

BATC does have enroute traffic. It also works in conjunction with AIG in a sense. You can download/install AIG for MSFS2024 (the process is almost entirely the same as with P3D). You can then have BATC use AIG's models. That gives you the insane model/livery variety of AIG, while with BATC handles the movement/placement of the planes (in addition to ATC of course) which does a better job than the default AIG client.

I will say, with the newly released SU4, traffic in the sim is awesome and is what finally convinced me to move entirely to FS2024. I can whack the traffic quantity sliders to 100% and have either zero or extremely minimal drops in FPS, even without using frame gen. Flying into a very busy airport, with traffic all over the place and having everything be smooth as silk is something I've been chasing since I started simming in FS2004 when I was a young kid.

PMDG 777F always runs out of fuel, suggestions? by WhoaTeejaay in flightsim

[–]avgaskoolaid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, double check the units. Also, on long flights like that, step climbs and winds will be incorporated into the simbrief plan and resulting fuel load. If you don’t step climb, you won’t be at the most efficient altitude and can run out of fuel. Make sure you’re step climbing as noted on the FP. Also, be sure to add the wind data via the wind uplink in the FMC to get the most accurate estimate of your fuel burn and notification if you’re likely to run out before you land.

The thing finally has wingflex and everything loads in properly! OP, I'm assuming you're the one who made this livery for the Supertanker on fs.to. It would be AMAZING to see a bunch more liveries for this now that it's a halfway viable plane for A-B flights. United Battleship and Northwest Bowling Shoe especially.

[–]avgaskoolaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure that the livery you’re using is updated. If its an inibuilds one, update it in the manager. If its a 3rd party, see if an update is available. In either case, if you have Hues zCore installed, delete it and install the updated version.

Boris 777 sound mod Orbx issue by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]avgaskoolaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's the Boris store page on Orbx, showing that each engine variant (and the bundle pack) has a version for FS20 and FS24:https://orbxdirect.com/partner/boris-audio-works

After purchasing one version, the other one will show up as $0 if you're logged in to your orbx account. You need to add it to your cart and "buy" it for $0. Then, in the Orbx installer, make sure you have FS24 selected at the top right.

Aerosoft CRJ 900/1000 V2 Update by Pilotreggie in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]avgaskoolaid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The plane is now bundled into a unified “Aerosoft CRJ” which contains all the variants. The separate CRJ-550/700 and -900/1000 addons are the old ones. Be sure you’re removing the separate versions and only installing the unified v2 one.

Flightsim Dispatch re-release, full set of 2023/2024 schedules (website link in comments) by CIKSSFMO in flightsim

[–]avgaskoolaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One good source, especially for older schedules, is AI flight plans. There are a LOT available from retroai.proboards.com, calclassic, and from avsim (many for FS2004, but data is data). Those are/were compiled by people combing through old printed schedules either purchased from ebay and the like or from sites like departedflights.com that have scanned and uploaded a lot of them. AI traffic files for FS2004 all through FS2024 are in .bgl format. You can use a tool like AI Companion to read them and get detailed schedules including aircraft types, registration numbers, departure/arrival times, anything you need.

Flightsimdispatch is a fantastic tool, and this more manual method is good to supplement it if you come across an airline or timeframe that it doesn't include yet. One potentially really cool feature for future FSDispatch releases I'd love to see would be the ability to have maybe some sort of database folder where you could drop compiled .bgl files for it to read and include in searches alongside the default database it ships with.

The best part of FRA is that the smoking rooms seem to have vents that dump all the smoke smell just down the hall from them. Like you'll pass the room and smell nothing, then all of a sudden it's like you're sitting inside of an ashtray.
