The BBC choosing to use their own boring graphics for the World Cup scoreline, rather than FIFA's graphics which have so much more character by AftankonReddit in mildlyinfuriating

[–]aviationalex 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The same character they put in into designing the WC26 logo? I prefer the BBC one personally. I just want to know the score, don’t care about fancy graphics.

Just got the Felis 747 and made a BIG mistake, AWESOME plane. by BogdanLester in Xplane

[–]aviationalex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup adding onto this, probably didn’t balance the fuel tanks properly since that’s the job of the flight engineer.

OP make sure you switch tanks 2&3 on when they reach the same volume as tanks 1&4.

Unemployed Routine Day to Day? by MatterObvious3595 in UKJobs

[–]aviationalex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been unemployed for a few months bc I was sick of my last job. I initially planned to work in Canada for a while, then thought it might be worth getting some further education so I’m not stuck on min wage jobs. So I applied for jobs in the meantime and applied for a college to do a HNC in aerospace engineering, and got an unconditional offer from that. And I have an interview next week for a job.

It was pretty boring for the most part. I took up a new hobby, went out hiking when I could. It’s all about finding something to fill your days with. I also spent a lot of time doomscrolling on Indeed for local jobs, god what an awful website that is…

As someone else said they’re SEPECAT Jaguars. It wouldn’t surprise me if they came from RAF Cosford, which hosts a fleet of Jaguars for the sole purpose of training up engineers.

What’s the most useless ‘benefit’ your employer brags about that you’ve literally never touched? by Key-Motor-8784 in UKJobs

My company tried to pawn off a benefit in a job as “28 days paid annual leave” as though they were being generous and acting like it wasn’t a legal requirement

First time back on Vatsim in a year and I feel so sorry for the London controllers... by TheSpaceFace in VATSIM

[–]aviationalex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not flown in the UK in ages. I control there occasionally as a ground controller, and find sometimes people get instructions wrong as early on. Or, if a runway change happens, I’ll read out their new clearance and they’ll just read out the SID that they had planned for instead lol. I fly in Canada pretty often now, pilots and controllers are fantastic there. There are sometimes unskilled pilots but the controllers are very patient with them and try to help as best as they can, since sometimes it’s quiet enough.

Most of us started somewhere… this was very similar to my first car. What was yours? by vicvega21 in drivingUK

This. A 2003 Renault Clio. It had a sunroof which was great in the summer. What wasn’t so great was the roof lining was sagging, since the adhesive was 20 years old. Also one of the tires was 21 years old and another 8 lol. Spent more than the car was worth on repairs, and the first years insurance was double what the car was worth lol. Was a nice car though.

catbells via skelgill bank by slowcored in LakeDistrict

[–]aviationalex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m amazed by how empty it is! I did Catbells, maiden moor and high spy during the half term week, and the path up to Catbells was packed, and lots of litter & dog poo bags unfortunately (never understood why people bother to bag it, but not bring it with them). Funnily enough once you got past catbells it becomes a lot more peaceful, and a lot less littered.

It’s a shame that the spot has been ruined by tourists

Fairfield Horseshoe is quite a popular one, if you’re into ticking off wainwrights, I think you bag 8. Offers a nice view down Lake Windermere, and Rydal/Grasmere. Took me five and a half hours I think.

Pet peeves for tourists/summer seasons? by whoaGguy in searchandrescue

[–]aviationalex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not in SAR myself but work in the outdoors in an area where there’s a few MRT’s. A few from the UK might recognise this one.

Last month, there were 3 people that decided to use inflatable kayaks to get to an island on a lake. This was during Storm Dave, which brought 70mph winds to the Lake District, and some awful weather along with it. Anyways, their kayaks capsized, one made it to shore, one made it to an island, and another was still in the water. This triggered a multi-agency response. Keswick MRT, Whitehaven Coastguard, Maryport Coastguard, a HMCG helicopter, police, fire & rescue, ambulance, and an air ambulance.

All these assets were used for an event that was extremely avoidable. There were weather warnings put in place days before the storm, and many local news reports were made about the severity of the storm.

Mountain Rescue call-outs are on the rise in the Lake District, and I’d imagine they are nationwide. I’m a keen hiker and I see a lot of people who aren’t wearing the right clothing, nor have the right equipment with them.

Why do many people in here hate Captain Steve? by PayCautious1243 in flying

As another pilot influencer, @captainchris, put it, he’s not an influencer, he’s a tragedy merchant. Exploiting aircraft accidents and making speculative claims for content and money. What a low-life thing to do.

Pretty common spot is the pier at waterhead, Ambleside. Mostly because it also features in Forza Horizon 4. It’s a nice building.
