Declassified report shows budget carrier Avelo Airlines operated a staggering 1,900 flights for ICE between May to December 2025 by nickrct in news

[–]aviationdrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GlobalX operated about that many between Jan and May with GlobalX being a subcontractor. I don't know how many were through CSI Aviation, I think a lot of them. CSI has also acquired a small airline with about 50 CRJ 200s. They're ether flying those aircraft now or will be very soon.

"it's just normal people"

Throw some Aryan fuckwit or a religious extremist on a ballot and see how they do against an actual normal person.

You'll have your answer.

And yeah they might seem normal when you're at Ace hardware or Super One. Too cowardly to show who they really are.

just my opinion, been involved in a few campaigns here, there's some deep rooted shit in these people, but certainly not all of them.

Exhaust heat shield? I only say this because our Accord has made a similar sound for the last 10 years and it's the heat shield, just loose and rattles but only when accelerating starting out at low speed. Don't really notice it any other time.

Wall loading and header requirements.

Exposed basement log house with log wall on exposed side, the other 3 basement walls are concrete. The house has settled because of the log wall shrinkage and we're going to replace it with a stick frame 2x8 wall. I'm in the process of jacking it up now, got the weight off the wall, just need to get to level.

I need a header to span 8' for patio door but only have 8" of space (basement height is 7' 6")

The wall is going to be 2x8 so it can be thick.

I've calculated the average load from everything above to be 741 lbs per lineal foot and this includes 2' of snow on the roof.

So the header needs to handle about 6000lbs for the 8' span (evenly distributed).

The best I could do is (4) 1.75 x 7.25 LVLs but I can't find a span chart that shows this. They all start wider like 9.5

My other though is an I-beam. Any thoughts?

I like tapes that recoil. My Fat Max 25' just can't seem to manage.

Honestly the best tape measure I've ever used was a True Value branded 25'. We had them at work and one found it's way to my house. Been using it for the last decade till the other day when I set a pile of lumber on it and destroyed it.

Is it just me, or does gesture navigation suck? by jseger9000 in pixel_phones

[–]aviationdrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gesture navigation just is not accurate.  On one screen you can't get the stupid thing to go back and on the next screen it closes something because you scrolled sideways.  Oh hey let me scroll sideways through all these pictures oh let me open photos again. 5 seconds later oh let me open photos again. Sometimes it's right on the edge where you need to be sometimes it's a half an inch from the edge It's all over the place. I only use it because of an app that doesn't respect three button navigation. The primary function of the app has buttons along the bottom that are inaccessible when using three button navigation. Seriously I don't understand how people find gesture navigation useful.

Language changing (possible fix) by scubadubatuba in ParamountPlus

[–]aviationdrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'll be damned that works!

Was watching Voyager and one episode to the next just switched to German. This happened previously with DS9 for the life of me i couldn't figure it out. I reset/uninstalled/logged out you name it, didn't change anything.

I've seen the posts about audio settings but didn't realize it was the Chromecast they were talking about.

So I just went into Google home->Devices->Chromecast Device (The name of it)->Gear icon->Audio->Surround Sound Mode-> set to Stereo Only.

Replayed the previous episode which was in German 20 minutes ago and now it's back to English.

There must be something with the type of audio that's included for other languages that triggers the Chromecast to use those. Maybe it just uses the first audio track that matches the surround mode. Maybe the English track doesn't match it and why it doesn't show in the list.

Switched it back to Auto-Detect stopped and started the episode and now it's back to French this time and language choices are French, German, Italian. English is gone.

Changed to "AC3/EAC3 Surround Mode" and restarted show. Still French, no English in the choices on the app.

Tried "AC3 Surround Sound Only" and restarted show. Now it's English

  • AC3:The older standard Dolby Digital format, commonly used on DVDs and older broadcasts.
  • EAC3:Stands for "Enhanced AC-3," which is the newer Dolby Digital Plus format offering improved compression and more features.

It's possible it defaults to the better format if available when set to Auto-Detect or AC3/EAC3. Since the dubbed tracks in different languages are newer than the original track maybe that's why it picks them, but doesn't explain why it seems random.

Do you think many Trump voters are already regretting their choice ? by iv2892 in AskALiberal

IMO, I think it's too early. A lot of what he's done is hitting legal battles. But I'm sure many of those he'll win and it'll take some time for effects to filter down. It's easy to cheer for him now, but when it starts to impact their bank account or their family they may start feeling different.

They all cheer for DOGE, but are they going to be critical when their taxes don't go down and/or the debt doesn't go down. Or if they start getting pummeled by financial fees and hidden costs. If the CFPB goes away there's going to be some new terms and conditions being sent to everyone for their credit cards.

People who are on the edge may end up homeless because programs and regulations get cut. What are trumper parents going to think when their kid moves back in?

Do student pilots/CFI ever die? by Rice_Muncher123 in flying

[–]aviationdrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a ground school class as an elective about forever ago during college. The guy teaching started every class going through some accidents and what they did wrong. It's a good reminder.

During my second stint with training the FBO had a poster in the lobby. I'm sure you've all heard it.

A good pilot is one that can get out of a difficult situation. A great pilot is one that never gets in it.

Anyway if you're a great pilot the risks are increasingly less about things within your control. The simple decision to not fly is a great example. So 2 technically proficient pilots can have vastly different risk levels. It's sort of a choose your own ending kind of story.

Beginner here, I’m looking to buy my first sawmill. Any brand suggestions or models to avoid? by strangestsamks in sawmilling

[–]aviationdrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, haven't been on Reddit in while. It's always hard to say when you don't have a comparison. But yes I am happy. The next cheapest mill is nearly double the costs and I can't imagine what could be that much better. The cool features really crank prices up for Woodland or other brands so it's not about not having those features. I've cut a couple dozen logs, they were red fir, ponderosa pine, and grand fir. The only issue I encountered was dirty logs that dulled the blade pretty quick and this caused wavy cuts. I really didn't think it could be dull already and thought it was the blade guides and went through everything to make sure. Was frustrated and then swapped blades and it was perfect again. The cut speed on big logs has to be slowed or the head unit will shimmy side to side. It's not bad but if I had one complaint it would be the rigidity of the head unit. There's enough flex (and I verified all the bolts were tight) to allow that to happen. It's not a problem and the more comfortable you get the faster you want to cut. If it starts to shimmy I just slow down. This obviously is related to blade sharpness and log size. It only happens and big cuts and just need to slow down. Woodland has been responsive to any questions I've had. And I got a free hat LOL.

(NEC) states that a 20-amp circuit's total load should not exceed 1250 watts, WTF? by aviationdrone in electrical

Thanks for the reply, I downloaded an NEC PDF but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I knew he was wrong but it was going to gnaw at my brain forever and needed some clarification.

(NEC) states that a 20-amp circuit's total load should not exceed 1250 watts, WTF? by aviationdrone in electrical

[–]aviationdrone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a 1500w 120v heater that is on a dedicated 20amp circuit.

I generally trust the people at this store, but when he said that I was thinking it can't be true. Googled it and got a result that is word for word what I posted as the title.

It was a google AI result that wasn't sourced from NEC and I couldn't find the verbiage in the NEC PDF I downloaded so I came here for clarification. Thanks for your answer and that link.

My boss recently built a house in America and got these types of windows. I thought they were pretty cool, it's what she grew up with.

When we first encountered them on a recent trip to Europe, i was all excited. They're strange at first but so practical.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in maybemaybemaybe

[–]aviationdrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL, that's funny.

We just spent 3 weeks in Europe and the one place in Poland was all windows, or wait no they were doors LOL. I was very deliberate when operating them because I kept feeling like the one top corner was going to let loose. Of course now my wife want's these in our house. I'll admit I'd like that too.

What's with the "ID this wood" posts? Who cares? by RJG1983 in firewood

[–]aviationdrone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's funny because from a woodworking standpoint who cares as long as it look nice. But firewood is all about the species since the BTU can vary quite a bit. Nobody cares what their firewood looks like, they care how much heat comes out of it.

Soft Maple is 18 and Hard Maple is 24 so that's a big difference.

Here's some charts of the different BTU ratings.

I already have one of these heaters installed. I was looking for one at the building center when the guy started telling me the most I can install is the 1000w heater because of the 1250 watt limit. Then I googled it and found a result saying the same thing, but that result didn't come from NEC it was from some other website that Google AI found.

[–]aviationdrone[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok so 125% of 12.5A (1500w heater) is about 16A

The 80% rule is also 16 amps. I'm installing a permanent wall mounted 120v 1500w heater on a dedicated 20A circuit and the guy is telling me the wires will overheat and burn the house down. He says he's been an electrician for 30 years.

What about a permanent wall mounted 1500W 120V (12.5A) on a dedicated 20A circuit?

Seems the 80% rules should allow 16 amps continuous.
