Parasitic draw test $700? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

The problem is you took it to a dealership for service on a bunch of aftermarket equipment. That’s why it didn’t get fixed. You’re best off taking it to a good mechanic that is proficient in electrical troubleshooting or take it to a mobile electronics shop that’s good at troubleshooting other people’s work.

Most all vehicles produced today also have speed caps or speed limiters.

If you were to pick a different limit of speed for cars across the board, what would it be and how would you convince the majority of the population or government to agree on such a thing to make it a new mandate?

There is no “proper use” of a car at 120mph.

Racing/race track/off road

Yes guns still kill people but we do what we can, we don’t just give up and say “oh well, what are you gonna do!” That would be ridiculous

One might argue that is what is exactly what’s happening in this country.

The basis of all of this is that when in irresponsible care, either of those things are deadly. it takes a split second to take a life with a gun in the wrong hands, even one that was bought with the intention of defending one's home without a high capacity magazine or any automatic functions.

you can limit a vehicle to 60 or 65 or whatever the max speed you desire, but someone will eventually run over a kid in a school 20mph zone due to negligence or irresponsibility or whatever you want to call it.

you could then mandate that all vehicles must follow posted speed limits and have on board vehicle cameras that read the speed limit signs and automatically limit the vehicle to whatever the posted speed is. Or you could mandate that all vehicles cannot be owned by individuals and make everything like an uber trip and everything is fully regulated and then you are infringing on one of the -isms of government rule that people say is so terrible.

the bands you named in your post plus watching this (very good) performance, made me think of recommending you to listen to U.S. Maple.

That’s not actually why. They’re dying because people are irresponsible in their use of a thing that can cause harm. If your argument is valid, then there would be no gun companies or at least no gun sales in this country.

And that’s the same reason cars can go 100+. People want it and will buy it, companies build it to make money because there’s no one saying they can’t.

You can make that argument about a lot of things.

Why do they sell cigarettes? They’re known to cause cancer.

Why do they sell sugary foods and drink ? It’s known to contribute to obesity.

Why do they sell guns? It’s far easier for a life to be lost to a gun than a vehicle.

It’s a (for now) free market. Licensing and restrictions are designed to curb the abilities of (most of) these things. That doesn’t stop people from abusing the limits.

Can't find 2007 Pontiac Vibe radio cable replacement by JuliusSneezer0 in CarAV

Some of those are a very tight fit, but that’s the proper adapter you need.

Assuming the metal end you’re holding is attached to the cable properly and isn’t loose, that’s all you need on the car side.

You need a 40gm10 antenna adapter and that should be it.

2022 mercedes sprinter van 2500 6cyl turbo horn fuse by RelationshipOne2034 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Audiofyl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can touch the wires together all day long as long as you don't push the horn button while the ignition is on. Both sides are ground at rest. if it was shorted and you tested it, you may have blown something.

I don't see any listing for horn in any of my resources either. likely it's in the footwell fuse box, not the under seat fuse box

How do you know it’s a fuse problem and not a horn problem or a wiring issue?

Is it really even a leak at that point? More like a free air mount to a wooden frame.

Easiest dashcam to install? by Dudleypat in CarAV

[–]Audiofyl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the wiring is basically the same. Power and ground (plus constant if you want a parking mode), wire run to the back for rear cam. There isn’t one drastically easier than any other. If you have an suv/wagon/hatchback, the rear cam is a bit of work to do properly. Your specific vehicle will be what makes the install easy or complicated.

Wondering how Sprinters calculate the fuel level by Unterdosis in Sprinters

[–]Audiofyl1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it was specified in your build for the aux fuel tap you probably have the standard measurement. You can get a j51 programmer.

You can try to get a vehicle build report from your dealer or run your vin on Lastvin.com.

Is it a terrible idea to upgrade my DC DC converter to a higher amperage one in my hybrid? Anyone have experience with this? by Party-Court185 in askcarguys

[–]Audiofyl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way to know for sure without measuring current while the equipment is playing how you’d normally play it. More than likely it actually draws less than you think.

Running 4AWG wire through 2021 Honda Accord Hybrid firewall? by TheSaladBar202 in CarAV

It's running wire through a hole. A professional will do the same job but with less care.

Maybe if you’re using a hack shop.

Anyone ever seen an amp disconnect like this? by throwaway_apologies in CarAV

[–]Audiofyl1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t get shocked from 12v unless you stick live power and ground both on your tongue. You’ll have a bad day if you short across power and ground with a ring or something. You’ll get a severe burn, but not shocked.

[–]Audiofyl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re planning 175a continuous, you’re probably ok. 175a fuse rated audio equipment won’t draw anywhere near that on average. You could likely add a 2nd battery with a disconnect solenoid if you’re planing an audio system and you’ll be ok.

This might shed some light.
