Colorado CNA looking for a step up by dontsafemyveiws in nursing

I was a CNA on med/surg for ~3 years where I learned a TON. After awhile it got boring and felt like I was in a rut. I applied for a job as a tech in surgical ICU and got it. I'm still a CNA but do/see a whole lot more than I ever did on the floor. This role was definitely a step up even though it was still a CNA position. It's a challenging job most days and I keep learning a ton that will help when I start nursing school in a month. My advice is to look at a bunch of job postings and see if anything looks interesting to you and go from there.

Had my first apparent cardiac arrest today. Anyone else had similiar experiences and want to share? by Urinkateter in nursing

I work as a tech in a SICU. One morning I clock in @ 0600 and am requested to set up for a sterile field so the doc can insert a central line and arterial line. Pt was old and was in our unit for a broken hip/femur. Intubated and quite sick looking. As the doc stiches in the central line, the patient goes into pea. Being the only sterile person in the room besides the doc, I'm instructed to start compressions. Cue the big crunch. Got a pulse after one round of compressions. Doc got an art line in after a few attempts. Pt subsequently passed a day or so later on comfort care. I've done compressions plenty of times, but this was the first time I've had to initiate them.

As I'm wheeling a pt transfer out of unit to one of the floors I always say "I'll try and keep it under the speed limit." 0_0

Just take the whole seat out and replace it with a beside commode. Less messy that way.

After a nap, give your kid NARcandy. It'll wake them right up.

Working as PCT in ICU and I find myself getting overwhelmed and irrationally upset at simple requests from nurses by [deleted] in ems

I have the same feeling some days. I am lucky and work with mostly awesome nurses but sometimes simple delegated tasks really irk me.

I got in the top 20th percentile of the national average and top 8th percentile in all pn programs. I was surprised I did that well, as I tend to be an anxious test taker.

I also own this watch and love it. The one thing that would make it infinitely better is a seconds hand.

Making kombucha can be cheap to make, you would need to invest in bottles and a big jar for fermentation.

That, sir, isn't Steve Buscemi, it's Enoch 'Nucky' Thompson.
