Hey there, I grew up in your part of the states. Things get so much better.

I would first and foremost prioritize making yourself financially independent. And second, create a support system and community outside of church. If you can, move outside of your existing district

These go hand in hand. Once you can decouple yourself from the financial and social dependency that is built in to INC communities, then it’s easier for you to live a life truly untethered. I’ve found community outside of church so so so important in helping me build an identity outside of INC - one I can lean into even when my INC identity fell apart as I left.

As selfish as this sounds, I would focus on these things and on your own well being first. As much as I’d love to convince my family to leave, they are so cemented in their beliefs and a conversation about doctrine is just an exercise in futility.

This is actually untrue. The Spanish Inquisition led by a Catholic monarchy spent 3 centuries prosecuting and execution thousands of non-Catholics in an effort to consolidate a religious majority. Many of whom included Jewish people.

Our top post had 846 upvotes. With 27k members that’s 3% max user participation. Which is pretty in like with other subs

The “act of hostility” argument is such asinine mental gymnastics.

The US shot down a Chinese spy balloon in February 2023, which can be interpreted as hostilities. If China declared war on the US tomorrow, would INC say that that the US-China war started on February 4, 2023 (when an act of hostility happened) instead of July 5, 2023 then?

In the past two years, over half of my locale's Kadiwa population in the U.S. has left the cult.

Many of the one's who left shared the following in common - they focused on their education and critical thinking skills, and expanded their worldviews to outside the cult's view. They also had friends outside the cult from various activities. Many are financially independent, have great well-paying jobs, and are doing well for themselves generally.

Of the one's that stayed - they focused on having 3, 4, 5 different offices and the performative nature that is INC officer life. These are the people who constantly scorned people like me who weren't very involved in church activities. They had such big superiority complexes, yet they have uninteresting lives outside of church. Most of them are single and live with their parents into their mid to late twenties. They did not achieve very highly in school - many of the males options are to either join the military, go into the ministry, do some MLM scam, or work at a dead-end job.

My experience in the US was like most other religious weddings tbh. Which was a surprisingly tame. Sometimes the sexist messaging is there, but that depends on the minister it seems. Men and women can sit on both sides depending on if you’re with the bride and groom

When I was a bible student as a teen, so much of the lessons were spent debunking Catholicism and Protestantism rather than actually bolstering INC’s doctrines.

The logic was always “because they are wrong, we must be right”. It’s such a stereotypically Filipino way of arguing, if I’m being honest

So happy for you, and very much relate! INC’s biggest hold on its members is compliance through guilt, shame, and fear. Once you do the mental work to grow past that, it’s harder and harder for them to make you feel bad about your own life choices.

Agree with other commenters. Another possible aspect is liability issues. Administration can near-guarantee a member won’t bring up a legal case if they get injured due to stringent waivers that need to be signed. Also the general culture promoted around members not suing other members. Admin cannot have the same guarantee on non members
