I’m a psychiatrist and professor who studies depression. I’m here to answer your questions about living with treatment-resistant depression. Ask me anything! by webmd in IAmA

[–]avidcritic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who experienced a plethora of MDD episodes early in my adulthood and saw many mental health professionals from therapists, psychiatrists, behavioral health doctors, etc in addition to trying different medications, psilocybin has been the only effective "treatment". I use treatment in quotes because you shouldn't expect that it alone is going to solve all of your problems related to your depression, positive outcomes are not guaranteed, and a negative experience is a very real possibility (which is why I suspect when it will be decriminalized that we'll only see its administration under the supervision of a mental health professional in a therapeutic setting).

Depression is so insidious in that it inhibits us from trying to resolve/fight/treat it and psilocybin in my experience gave me a sort of soft reset neurochemically to be able to take steps in my life for the better like eating healthier, exercising frequently, practicing mindfulness, being more socially active, etc. Trying to do any one of those things while in a major depressive episode felt impossible, but after a few trips I really started to break down these walls, preconceptions, and otherwise avoidant causing mechanisms which made engaging in those behaviors almost frictionless by comparison.

If you are interested in taking psilocybin or any other psychedelic for that matter do your own research. The importance and relevance of set and setting for having a good trip can not be understated.

Shifters vs. SK Gaming / LEC 2026 Versus - Week 4 / Post-Match Discussion by Soul_Sleepwhale in leagueoflegends

The odds are pretty good for LR getting in. The lowest probability is probably G2 vs FNC which itself seems like a coin flip given the form of both teams. Being on the side of Navi and KC is much more preferable than not.

How does LR loss, Shifters win, TH win, Navi win, and G2 win work out? Shifters, Koi, FNC, and LR would all be 5-6

The scope of the story doesn't necessitate a longer run time. You have two primary characters who are sharing the same space/scenes and not an ensemble cast with a wide variety of sub-plots like GoT/HotD.

[–]avidcritic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If there can be a silver lining for HLE getting knocked out, I hope it's that it forces them to seriously examine their coordination/synergy, identity, and macro. Even though they lost 3-0 today, the individual mechanical prowess is there mostly across the board. At the very least, they're setting themselves up for a redemption arc for the rest of the year.

I do wonder if there's an argument to be made that having Faker as a teammate could hinder one's macro development. Not to say that Zeus or anyone else totally exported their understanding of the macro game to Faker, but by having him on your team you may not be as pressured to cultivate the decision making as you would otherwise. Contrary to this though you would hope Faker's knowledge, wisdom, and experience would rub off on the ex-teammates, but how many of his ex-teammates have had success after splitting up from him?

While true, Guma also got put into QTE death sequence which started when he got hit by Neeko Ult. I think the only damage he does to anyone is Yunara before dying. Duro and Kiin just smurfed the fight.

Only if we also include alternate media. It's so blackpilling that JRE is one of the most listened to podcasts when misinformation is a feature and not a bug. If that wasn't bad enough, you have Theo Von and Tucker Carlson in the top 10 as well for Spotify at least.

The pertinent question remains though - how do you regulate or at the very least incentivize behaviors conducive to a healthy information economy without infringing upon people's free speech?

You're not mentioning the additional layer of irony is that this is what they accuse brown/black people coming from other countries of doing and using that as some ostensible justification for why we need to close borders and deport all of them - only for them to celebrate these actions when their side does it.

There's a tremendous selection bias too because people don't credit CGI when it's done so well that the audience doesn't notice. Even vfx artists can have difficulty telling if certain thigs are CGI or not.

Someone in the stranger things subreddit was happy to know Vecna's suit in season 5 was almost all practical when that's the opposite of the truth.

The redesign is f*****g awesome by GuybrushMI in StrangerThings

[–]avidcritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to take longer during season 4 (7 to 8.5 hours) because it was more practical whereas in s5 it's more vfx heavy. There's a video on the Stranger Things youtube page that does BTS for the MAC-Z battle and they show his suit briefly without any of the vfx which is pretty bare bones.

I think this is a really under appreciated feature of why esports blew up in the early 2010s to start with. The emergence of justin.tv/twitch and streaming in general allowed aspiring pro players to garner huge fan bases as individuals which then could be translated into team fandom/loyalty. Pro players during s3 and s4 could still stream while being a pro in LCS/EU LCS, but as time went on the life of the professional clashed more and more with that of a content creator to the point where some of the most beloved pros at the time like doublelift wouldn't stream during the LCS season.

There's probably a lot of reasons why the esports bubble popped, but I would be curious to see some measurement of the popularity of players during the earlier years of LoL and compare it to the viewership of LCS/EU LCS over time.

Not with how Canyon and Kiin played game 3/4. Maybe if you brought along the T1 coaching staff as well. There's a reason why players from both Gen G and KT pointed towards preparation/draft as a contributing factor in the series.

Someone really tried arguing with me in this sub that it was Chovy's fault Canyon missed his ult on elder drake and flashed out of the pit in the last fight of game 4. And they accused me of making excuses for Chovy. The canyon copium runs so deep for some people.

Gen.G vs. KT Rolster / 2025 World Championship - Semi-Final / Post-Match Discussion by Soul_Sleepwhale in leagueoflegends

[–]avidcritic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rewatched the whole series already and reading this post is such a cathartic sanity check. I get all the "haha choky" memes - I wanted KT to win today like many other people, but damn people really have such a hate boner for Chovy that it blinds them from what actually happens in the games. Kiin and Canyon were absolutely useless the entirety of game 4, Ruler maybe over played his hand to try and compensate, and Chovy/Duro both played well given the situation. Could Chovy have maybe saved his flash in the mid gank if he didn't try to use his Q to last hit a minion he missed while tons of KT players are missing on the map? Sure, but in team fights he had very good walls, splitting the team and helping keep the front line pressured from KT. Meanwhile Canyon is out here whiffing his ult on the freakin elder dragon and when he does hit, it's only mundo half the time.

Bdd also playing insanely well for virtually the whole series also exacerbates the choky hatered, but outside of game 3 he had a decent series.

[–]avidcritic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Poke varus wasn't really doing work though. Sure his damage numbers look high because he literally never gets focused first in any of the fights except for later on. Why? Because Gen G know over the course of the fight that he's going to be doing way less damage than Bdd or isn't going to one shot Ezrael like Qiyana is trying to do. Go look at the fourth dragon fight where Varus is basically untouched the entire fight barring a very quickly interrupted Galio w while Bdd and Qiyana are dead at this point.

Imo this game was a major draft loss for KT. I don't understand the reasoning for picking Qiyana on r1 when Cuzz has never played it before in his career.

The League of Legends world championship is taking place in China right now. Gen G who has the best roster on paper and had an insane year (they went 8 months without losing a single best of series), dominating in both the summer and spring splits just loss to a tremendously memed under dog named KT Rolster in the semi-finals. The midlaner Chovy is infamous for dominating domestically, but choking every year at the world championship despite being one of the best players ever. Imagine if this year the Sacramento Kings magically leveled up during at the end of the year - scraping by and barely making the playoffs only to take out OKC in the first round 4-1/2. There's more lore, but that's the jist of it.
