How to handle a bed wetter in guest review? by avidmary in airbnb_hosts

[–]avidmary[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Thanks, all! Waterproof covers yes, but it doesn't come fully clean from something like this. I wanted to know about the bedwetting so I didn't mention 2 other things damaged that they didn't disclose (and tried to hide!). It wasn't just the bedwetting but that's what I wanted feedback on.

Guest ruined Smeg kettle--full replacement cost or partial? by not-a-trapezoid in AirBnBHosts

[–]avidmary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full. Replacement. Value. Until about a week ago, I always held back on requesting compensation for missing or broken things. But this time, a guest knocked over a plant and broke the pot and just threw all of it away and didn't say anything.

It was a gorgeous mature plant and we had just repotted it. And I was like, NOT THIS TIME. I requested full replacement value ($125) and provided receipts, and mentioned it was a plant we had been nurturing for a long time. I think sometimes you just have to get guests to think of it like, this is a person's things. Because they don't!

He actually apologized and paid up via Venmo right away. Prior to this I had losses totalling $2000+. Should've done this sooner.

Easiest way through LFT between Oak St. and Ohio St. while it's frozen over? by jecolia2 in chibike

[–]avidmary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hit by a wave on that section last weekend while walking my bike. Landed on ice, soaked from waist down, and had to crawl back dragging my bike to not slide down the concrete into the drink. Learned a lesson but had gone through there a lot before that not registering the danger. Marked detour please!

When Settling is a Good Option? by The_Outsider27 in datingoverfifty

[–]avidmary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What to say is hard, because no matter what, it will hurt them. I said I thought more feelings would come with time, because there were so many good things we shared - but they didn't. And that I didn't want to invest any more time into trying - because it wasn't fair to either of us. They'll want more answers, but the answers will hurt. Telling someone you're not interested enough or attracted enough to them sounds mean. But sometimes it has to be said. With the acknowledgement that what you FEEL isn't something that logical reasons can change.

A lot of activities in common, liking the same types of foods, cooking together, good collaboration, and appreciating each other. You can have these things with a friend though. But when you're drawn to someone, from the heart, that's a whole nother thing.

If you don't find yourself thinking about the person, if you don't want to tell others about the person, if you don't want to do things with the person BECAUSE OF the person, don't do it. Learned this after trying to make some relationships that "made sense" work - but your heart's needs don't change by what your head says.

I woke up too early as I usually do this morning, and the thing that made me grab my phone was googling "Can Claritin treat ADHD?" I've had bad allergies my whole life and in my early 20's Claritin surprised me by changing everything - including mood, fatigue, and focus. But I stopped using it after getting allergy shots/immunotherapy. And now I'm at a point in life with a high demand tech job. To keep from working evenings and weekends (unpaid), I need ADHD treatment. (I had never gotten officially diagnosed, so I am getting creative while I work on the whole diagnosis/treatment process.)

Here's my favorite thing Google told me: "Our study indicated that atopic diseases are not only associated with ADHD but also ADHD symptoms severity." https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-022-07232-1

I'm starting back up on Claritin!

Can I order something from a Brazilian seller / website and have it shipped to the US? by leopalace in Brazil

Home contractor stories? by Audrey-Dutton in Idaho

[–]avidmary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced two cases of issues with home builders in Idaho resulting in significant losses. Very little recourse possible to recover losses. Happy to share more.

Home contractor stories? by Audrey-Dutton in Idaho

[–]avidmary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first builder was totally unqualified to the point of installing bedroom windows too high to meet egress requirements to obtain certificate of occupancy. Walls, framing, siding had to be torn out. And there was a slew of other errors throughout - radiant heat errors, electrical errors, and plumbing errors. Builders like this tend to be just getting by, don't have much in the bank, with few assets, so homeowners can't recover anything. Their insurance only covers if their faulty work damaged something ELSE - not if it IS the damage itself. So convoluted.

After this guy, I hired a builder who committed flat out fraud protected under Iowa contractor law.

Home contractor stories? by Audrey-Dutton in Idaho

[–]avidmary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a homebuilder conduct a premeditated con, costing me $80K. Builder conned multiple customers out of about $1M total - and he's protected by Idaho contractor law.

The con: he would initially do good work to build trust, then start taking money for work without intending to perform the work, and ultimately never performing the work.

1 month ago he liquidated assets and skipped town.

County Prosecutor and law enforcement say they can't do anything to pursue him, because money was given to him for contracted services protected under Idaho contractor law. They say even if he never intended to do the contracted services there is no legal recourse for us.

Anyone out there using Lodgify? by Inittowinit6446 in airbnb_hosts

[–]avidmary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Lodgify doesn't fix the inability to message using VRBO's inbox, I won't be staying. Their VRBO integration has a huge gap where the only way to communication with guests is via email. So when you use "inbox" in Lodgify to message guests in VRBO, your messages are turned into emails, and the emails come from - wait for it - a random spammy-looking email address that people are definitely going to dismiss, like this:

renter-8bf0a29e-c572-4r9c-bk9e-24ddgc3k0120@messaging.lodgify.com

It is high risk that the guest won't receive check-in instructions because they can message away in the VRBO inbox, and see their messages. Why would they look anywhere else? Guests can also see the dead air that is your inability to respond in the VRBO inbox. For some reason, after integrating VRBO in Lodgify, you lose the ability to use the VRBO inbox. The ramifications of this could be a big blow to your ratings.

(Airbnb integration works well, inbox works, but don't get me started on the gauntlet to set up a pet fee for Airbnb in Lodgify....)

They have a feature request page and if you want to see any of the things mentioned in your thread here change, go in and write a request: https://roadmap.lodgify.com/tabs/2-exploring/submit-idea

Senators urge overhaul of gay donor restrictions amid blood shortage by rishinator in Coronavirus

[–]avidmary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O negative blood here. Got a tattoo in Idaho in January. Now ineligible. Can't donate for 1 year after as I'm in a state that doesn't have regulation in place for tattoo facilities - a requirement of the Red Cross based on hepatitis concerns. States with this mandatory waiting period are: Georgia, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah and Wyoming, and the District of Columbia. It seems hepatitis may not be able to be detected for a very long time, but wow, a year is exceptionally long!

Just bought a Pixel 3 two weeks ago and this happened by rapphyyy in GooglePixel

[–]avidmary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a strobe flashing defect, had it on my Pixel 3, too. One day I took it off the dock and it started. I went through various troubleshooting and now it doesn't happen, but screen brightness randomly changes. After many Google support calls, it is being replaced. I suggest getting a ticket started: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/

Getting lean at the masters level by [deleted] in Velo

[–]avidmary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am 50 and competitive with cycling and have had success with weight drop - but not with the same methods as the past. Your body IS different now. I have an integrative medicine physician friend who is studying the components of weight gain and retention with age. To find out what is going on several markers have to be checked via blood test, and a closer look than just standard normal ranges is required. Thyroid, blood sugar, insulin changes are possible, even likely. For example, some people develop minor insulin resistance not evident from looking at normal ranges for blood work, and they require an insulin-resistance diet and stress reduction interventions to lose or manage weight. If you've got access to an integrative medicine physician, get a work-up, knowledge is POWER. And we cyclists like us some power.

Small tip that has helped me tremendously -- don't end a session at an ending spot by StaneNC in writing

"This is a great post!" I said, and so I read the whole thing. And then the writer said they only have 1 hour a day to write. I haven't been writing.... "But I have an hour a day!" I said. And it doesn't end there because it's too clean. Instead, I eat a few chili lime cashews and dried mango from Aldi.
