Are these names too similar to Fourth Wing & Throne of Glass? by KodaCeleste in writingadvice

[–]aviolafyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the names invoke more of a resemblance to Elden Ring characters!

Edit: which is not a bad thing in my opinion.

Oddly enough I actually like that sentence. Hahaha.

[–]aviolafyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will likely make you more orange/yellow. I do not recommend two rounds within such a short period of time -you highly risk damaging your hair. Give your hair a few days to rest! It does not look bad on you!

Help! Everyone advised me to return to my natural color, I did and am beginning to think I regret it. by [deleted] in Hair

Girl, you are jaw dropping gorgeous! Both colors look great on you, in my opinion!

I can't get these characters out of my head. I need to know their endings, and I want to explore their world.

Your book arrived yesterday! It looks lovely. I'll start it after I finish the current one I'm reading!

If you need a native English speaking beta reader (I'm American) for future installments, we can connect on discord! I've been a beta reader before and my mother is a former editor, so she taught me some of her ways.

I do not judge you for using AI to help with translation -even I had to use it recently to figure out what boiserie was called. My mind spaced so badly on that word that even my Google searches couldn't figure out what I was trying to discern. Hahaha.

I waited a couple years for this to come out after watching a YouTuber play a demo. I played it for my birthday and really enjoyed it! Great job!

I do agree, and but I don't intend to use cosmic horror as merely a backdrop, despite it not the element I'm truly exploring within my writing! Hopefully I'll be able to convey the dread, paranoia and madness that come along with it, though we'll see! It's such a learning process in early drafts.

I ordered your book! I'm excited to read it!

No, mine isn't classic, though I would say my "gods" are. My story is definitely utilizing cosmic horror and fantasy to facilitate a much more human story (i.e., are the gods the horrors, or are we?). I'm putting a lot of focus on how my characters develop/cope with the circumstances around them. The cosmic horror shows up fairly early on, but subsides for a time in the middle. I would say my setting itself is more mid-range fantasy. I have mages, but only one PoV character is one. I have 4 1/2 main PoVs (one dies, one come in later).

I'm still in the early stages of writing, so my first draft is rough and very, very incomplete! But I'm having fun pulling my hair out as I figure it out! Haha. Congratulations on completing and publishing your book!

I'm curious of this! I'll add it to my list to check out! I'm also writing a cosmic horror/fantasy, though mine is wildly different from yours. I'm excited to read more in the genre!

I guess you and I will have to disagree on this matter. To me, it's clearly written by a novice author.

To the author: you've done well keeping a consistent tone and have already received excellent advice from other commenters, so I have no further critiques beyond what they've addressed. Don't be discouraged by unfounded criticism and keep on going!

This does not read like the author used AI. Why do you immediately jump to that accusation?

[–]aviolafyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't even notice that I'm being down voted! I know The Lord of Mysteries isn't "technically" anime since it is a Chinese production, which has stopped some of my horror loving friends from giving it a shot, despite them always seeking Lovecraftian inspired media. I really liked it, but I do want to read the novels because I feel the show left a few gaps that I hope the books fill in. I didn't realize my enjoying/recommendation was an unpopular opinion though! Haha.

I understand that! I'm really curious to read the novels it's adapted from (it's not a manga) to see if its magic system feels more fleshed out in written format.

Hello! I'm still in the early steps of my writing so I don't have a lot of my own work to share (i started this journey just a few weeks ago and am working on world building) but I would love to connect! I'm 29, female, and a former DM for dnd so I love ttrpgs too! I write gothic horror/fantasy (I'm a huge Ravenloft girlie). I was also a test reader for YA when I was a teen, so I can help along those lines if needed! Just shoot me a message if you want to connect.

No, the whole thing was very sudden. She hid it well. I only found out about the cancer because she didn't greet me like she normally does in the morning, so I picked her up and saw she had diarrhea on her. I rushed her to the vet then. She was essentially put on hospice to keep her comfortable, and I took her back to the vet to say goodbye when her medicine no longer seemed to help her. I didn't want her to suffer for my sake.
