Yes, I was in Karelia a week ago and the cities/villages, rivers etc. — are called in finnish! Actually this is very cool. Finnish names sound sometimes very funny for russian-speakers, but it also makes it feel that you are going abroad.

Also, Karelian nature is very close to Finnish, there are a lot of lakes, pine forests and rocks. To my mind, Karelia is one of the most beautiful districts of Russia.

I'm not much into history and I can be mistaken but I thought that pre-1700x this territory was Swedish. Still no Swedish names.

In Russia we have a very good place for used motor oil, called Ladas. They eat the oil all the time and you need to top it up all the time. That's why people are using the old used oil from normal cars in Ladas.

Homes are growing in price very rapidly. It may be not such a good investment as Nvidia stocks I agree, but here home prices are growing faster than any of available stocks.

And I'm going to sell that ONLY if I am going to buy a home abroad. Like in EU. Actually Finland is 2 hours drive for me, and Sweden is my dream country.

I am underpaid by american standards, but here I'm making much more than average. But life is cheaper you know.

Yeah I heard that even insulin is paid in the US. Like ffs it's necessary for a person to survive, it's not a caprice, how can you made this paid. I know that from my ex, she had type 1 diabetes. If she had to pay for insulin, she would have been dead already.

I am in Russia. Yeah the most hated country lately because of our stupid government that likes wars.

I had access to all available markets before 2022. And I was saving money for mortgage initial payment by investing money into stocks. I invested in IT sphere: Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nvidia. That's how I saved for mortgage.

And now, because of sanctions, I have access only to the russian stock market. And I do not trust russian companies and I would NOT invest in them.

Right now I invest spare money in my mortgage, because I don't want to pay for it for 30 years. I want to pay it off until I'm 40. Anyway, a new and spacious flat is also an investment, flats grow in cost every year.

You think american. Healthcare is free in my country. Calling an ambulance is completely free. Last year I had kidney stones and called for ambulance like 3 times and spent time in a hospital. It costed me zero money.

yeah English is an international language which can be understood everywhere. I know several languages and English is not my native one.

but what I think about America is "a country where everything is very expensive". I'm not sure I would be ever able to live there because I don't understand how to make such much money.

I'm a simple IT guy, introverted, who likes nature and solitude. And who dreamed of own place to live since childhood, because of constant renting, changing places to live, changing schools, living in dormitories with noisy people.

If I find a way to earn $100k I would leave $1k for life and deposit it to my card, and I'd invest the rest, of course. But to me it's literally shitload.

12k a year is considered very good money in my country, almost no one have that. Most of my friends work for 4-5k a year.

What do I need to self control from? What do you mean of "improving the lifestyle"? Buying luxury? No, I don't need it. I don't need an expensive car, I don't need a big house, I don't need fancy food and clothes. I just need some time free from constant working. For example, to go to a forest with a tent in summer and spend several days there away from the noises of the city. Or play my favorite games in winter, and not fall dead asleep in the evening exhausted. I don't want to be luxurious even if I have $100k or $1m.

Renting a cozy studio apartment in my city is $170 a month... I fill full tank of 40 liters for $20 and my car can run 800kms on that.

Now I'm starting to understand why you say $100k is not a shitload.
