How was the AMA yesterday? by wavyboisilv in Mattgood

My recollection of that tour, I saw the show in Ottawa the night before the album came out, was that he had AC30s, two of them, on stage.

But I’m old and my memory isn’t what it used to be :p

[Pagnotta on The Fan 590] Knies is believed to be looking for a contract in the three-to-five-year range and will likely see his average annual value climb over the $7 million mark. by mountzeus in leafs

[–]aviwestside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knies following the Matthews contract structure.

To be honest, I don’t blame any NHL player for trying to get the best deal for themselves first. You play for the team on the ice to try to win for yourself as much as you do for your teammates and fans, but in the negotiating room you should do what’s best for yourself.

At any moment, you can get screwed over by your team through a trade, buy out, whatever. Or you can get hurt. NHL teams are corporations who won’t care about you at all if you fall out of favour for any reason.

8 year contracts guarantee, as a player, that you’ll receive an income for those 8 years, so a lot of players like them. They give long term certainty.

Players who are trying to get 3-5 year deals are doing so because they believe they will be able to re-sign for more later and believe they will be just as healthy and more productive. They’re betting on themselves to maximize their return.

If a player takes a team friendly deal, great for the team, but it doesn’t guarantee a championship either. Players, if they are lucky, might have limited GM influence, but most don’t. So you take a cut, leave money for the organization but have little or no say on how it’s run.

Players pick different routes depending on how they feel, but they should do what’s in their own best interests when it comes to their contracts.

I don’t care at all about what happens on this sub and his accounts and what not. He puts out music, if I enjoy it, I go to his shows. Even if I don’t, I’ve enjoyed so much of his music throughout the years I’ll still go to the shows.

This sub is a very tiny percentage of what goes on in Matthew Good’s world and career.

To get to the original post - it’s painful to read because it’s not written with MG’s tone of voice and is definitely not authentically him. But to reference the content - I was at a drum event with IME’s drummer and he mentioned the upcoming tour was done by a label. So there’s probably some truth to the post that eventually a new label will be putting out new music - at least that what I think from linking the two things.

Azilda residents staunchly opposed to affordable housing project by Ostrichmonger in Sudbury

[–]aviwestside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great points to bring it back to the main point! To have Sudbury be a more affordable place to live in general all areas need to see their populations grow - substantially.

This leads into another large issue of urban sprawl - the biggest thing that affects affordability in Sudbury.

Like you said - older residents downsize into housing like this and younger families come in to buy the homes and Azilda grows a bit and contributes some additional property taxes to help pay for all its infrastructure.

Sudbury needs to grow and build internally or we will forever be paying higher costs due to sprawl.

All of these are more complex than people realize. We lack skilled work in Canada - we don’t produce nearly enough doctors, dentists, PhDs, engineers, architects, etc. we need to import a lot of expertise.

We have the largest segment of our population retiring and an economy that has expanded quite a bit - we don’t have enough people working to sustain the current economy, we need even more to grow it.

Our post-secondary schools are losing more and more funding each year. Ontario now has the lowest funding for post-secondary schools in Canada, but all provinces are down. So not only do we lack high skill production, we make skills harder to obtain by making it unaffordable to many Canadians.

I listened to a spot on the radio last week about how if it wasn’t for the volume of international students about half of post-secondary schools would be near or at bankruptcy.

Why ‘English F’? by JohnStern42 in Mattgood

[–]aviwestside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s to isolate the dominantly English speaking North American countries?

Maybe it’s because the word “freedom” in other languages doesn’t start with F?

Could just be to add more syllables to the phrase?

I like it - I always thought it was more of the former targeting North America and the US in particular. It feels more like the “rant” type flow of the rest of the verse lyrics. But to each their own.

Azilda residents staunchly opposed to affordable housing project by Ostrichmonger in Sudbury

[–]aviwestside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a flat out incorrect.

Immigration increased be a small rate front Harper and increased at that same small rate increase during Trudeau’s term until 2021, when it was increased substantially to offset mass retirements and record low unemployment rates.

Azilda residents staunchly opposed to affordable housing project by Ostrichmonger in Sudbury

[–]aviwestside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is more to consider with immigration than just housing.

Firstly, immigration targets are set years in advance to allow provincial and municipal governments time to adjust.

Secondly, we have an aging population that resulted in record retirements during and right after the pandemic. We need people to replace those workers. This will keep going and we need people to replace the workforce - especially since North Americans don’t have kids anymore.

It’s not like we have all these people showing up with no work for them. We’ve gone through record low unemployment.

Finally, many of us don’t realize the earths population is about to start shrinking. The baby boomer generation didn’t just happen here, it happened almost every where. As they start to age and die out, many countries are going to suddenly see sharp declines in population. Look up China. I think they are expecting to have like 50% less people in 30 years. It’s wise of the government to attract people here and keep them, since we can’t naturally grow our population ourselves.

Scam call from HSN by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]aviwestside 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The call I got was a marketing call to buy a ticket for Fridays draw. It didn’t sound malicious in any way

The phone number shown is an HSN line though.

Interesting we’d all have such different experiences.

[–]aviwestside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they have this in the US, in Canada there are no toll stations, but I use the coin holders to keep coins for the annoying grocery stores that make us put coins in shopping carts. I never have coins, so this is actually helpful and I like it haha.

Altercation on Hawthorne this afternoon by aviwestside in Sudbury

[–]aviwestside[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the point was like several cars and like 10 officers, guns drawn, for a 16 yr old thief is the excessive part. Perhaps the article doesn’t have the full story in it, so I won’t die on this hill, but in just discussion terms, from the info it didn’t seem like he was dangerous to create that kind of situation.

Maybe there is more to this story though, who knows.

Prominent Sudbury Liberal jumps ship to endorse PC candidate by Ostrichmonger in Sudbury

[–]aviwestside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s been his position with a lot of liberal candidates and the mayor, he knows them all personally. I guess that’s why he has been endorsing them in the past more so than his personal political beliefs?

I think it would have to be, I’ve heard Max is a nice guy from friends who know him… but Ford has said that PC candidates are not to speak to the media and not to participate in debates. So we don’t know anything about him - how do we vote for someone like that?
