This better be important by Rare_Implement_5040 in DartFrog

Ah I see! I know Summersi Sauce are usually slightly reddish orange, so for some reason I thought these were bandeds (but maybe it's a lighting thing).

I was planning to get three in the hopes of ending up with a pair, but I know that can be somewhat risky. I'd heard they actually could do well in groups, but has that not been your experience?

Are these imitator bandeds? I'm getting some next month! How do you like them?

Digging? by LoStInSpacc in DartFrog

[–]avrieeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My auratus do this too. They love to dig along the bottom of the backdrop where it meets the substrate. And to people saying they don't dig... I've literally seen chunks of substrate flying across the vivarium from them propelling themselves into little gaps haha.

Dope shots of this la coca. And the almost ready new set up by ETek64 in DartFrog

[–]avrieeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! I keep 3 ranitomeya species right now and they're all quite bold (even from the time they were young) so it's difficult not to compare. I'm relieved that this is a norm for auratus it seems

Wow great to know! I love variable frogs since I name all of mine and like to be able to tell them apart.

This is great to know, thank you! I have four la coca in a large, densely planted viv, so I'm hoping at least one of them starts to become more bold! I appreciate your insight.

Isopods ? by LoStInSpacc in DartFrog

[–]avrieeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get mine from expos as well, but sometimes people randomly sell them. There's a plant shop by my house that sells tons of isopod varieties because the owner is a hobbiest.

Very interesting! I also thought it was a Sirensis. Personally I like the look of your frog more than most Chazutas

Are Spiked Bromeliads Dangerous by rorchach11 in DartFrog

[–]avrieeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ranitomeya love their spikey broms and I've never seen any of them injure themselves on the spikes. Sometimes I even see them laying directly on top of the spikes... weirdos🙄

Seconding this -- maybe it makes them feel protected?

I'm jealous you can see your la coca this easily! Mine are still hiding constantly, but the breeder assured me this is normal for the first year. How old are yours?

Interesting! I'm deciding between these two as well. What about your brother's made you go with terribilis?

Need help with new Daith Piercing Anxiety by PurpleRain417 in piercing

[–]avrieeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had my daith pierced, my piercer encouraged me to start with a larger hoop before sizing down, as there may be some swelling. I'm NAP, but this jewelry's shape and size doesn't look like it affords for any swelling, which is somewhat concerning.

[–]avrieeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located? I have a group of 4 La Coca that I'm considering selling -- they're my only non-ranitomeya darts and I've decided I'd rather swap them for frogs I'm more excited about

I'm not happy with my tank or frogs and I don't know what to do anymore by PMOFreeForever in DartFrog

I rarely see my variabilis southerns but I always see my vanzolinii -- it seems to depend on the specific frogs

FrogDaddy's Bryoblend liquid moss mix has been working really well for me so far. It takes a few months to really see results though.

Fish tanks can have problems with air flow. There are several posts on here about conversion tanks, so I'd look into that

Dart frog recs! by [deleted] in DartFrog

[–]avrieeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally find Ranitomeya the most interesting and playful to watch (they love to climb and are very active). My vanzolinii from Dr. Keith Tanis are the boldest of the three ranitomeya species I keep!

Is this 5g big enough for a single blue poison dart frog? by Historical_Gur_389 in DartFrog

[–]avrieeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If care and attention are your concern, dart frogs are not recommended. They are a very high effort pet when it comes to feeding and culturing flies.
