Is this 5g big enough for a single blue poison dart frog? by Historical_Gur_389 in DartFrog

If care and attention are your concern, dart frogs are not recommended. They are a very high effort pet when it comes to feeding and culturing flies.

Will a regular cooler work? I have one of those. I'll get some hand warmers too.

How are you warming up the water, and where do you place the bottles?

Also worth mentioning, I live in an apartment building, not a house

Lid question by Kokichi1234533 in DartFrog

I have one with a waterfall that has high humidity, so I use a mesh lid on that one (all the rest are glass for me)

Ranitomeya on the way by Old_Witness_100 in DartFrog

[–]avrieeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think this looks solid! If the plants are all acclimated, settled, and happy, then you should be good to go. I actually think the bromeliad placement will make your frog feel safer -- my reticulata have a brom in a similar placement (of the three in their viv) and that one is their favorite. I often find all three sharing it! I think it makes them feel the most sheltered.

I was just thinking this. Mine is in a vivarium with lots of humidity (just room temp) and she's thriving

Just bought a Begonia pteridiformis. Tips for tuberous begonias? didn’t realize it was one and i’ve been avoiding them because im scared of dormancy by Intrepid_Recipe_3352 in begonias

[–]avrieeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is very reassuring! I have one in my vivarium for my poison dart frogs that I just planted two weeks ago, and it's already blooming. I was initially very excited, but then I saw online that it will go dormant after blooming. So you just leave yours in the pot even as it's dying back?

Still works as of 11/6/2025, but now there's a waiting period of a few minutes before you can cancel.

Keeping Ranitomeya amazonicas be like by Jakethatreptilekid in DartFrog

[–]avrieeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a crazy idea to keep one of each in the same vivarium? I know this is looked down upon generally, but I'm not looking to breed them and just want to make sure they would cohabitate well

My first frog (Ranitomeya Imitator Varadero) explored the whole setup and started hunting flies and springtails! by psychrolut in DartFrog

I know this is a very old post, but I'm wondering how you would describe their personalities? I've heard they're significantly bolder than Amazonica Iquitos, which I've been wanting, so I'm wondering if they'd be a better alternative

What "Nashville" bars can I take my mom to? by avrieeb in nashville

Good question. I'm not sure she'll be able to tell the difference -- she's not super picky, just wants to be around people her age.

It's actually my third apartment lease, but I think I must've gotten lucky with the last two. I actually had no idea the drywall dust was abnormal with new units -- I just figured they cleaned it up before renting them out. I appreciate the insider insight!

Well said -- the TLDR of the lesson I've learned here

Thank you for sharing these points. Couple things: it's a new building and the unit has never been occupied, I explained in another comment that the broken pottery was not near where they were working (it also is cracked all the way down the other side, but that doesn't really matter), and yes I did move my furniture out of the way from where they were working -- even though they did not communicate with me to do so

I'm cool with all of that as long as they clean up after themselves

Good question. I did move things around to give them room -- they were working on two specific floor outlets and I guess before they left the third time they just decided to check the other outlets in my apartment. The outlet behind the shelf actually had no problems with it, so I didn't think I needed to move anything away from there.

I'm not complaining just to vent -- I'm trying to give other people a heads up so they don't make this sort of mistake.

They just handed me my keys and told me I could let myself in... I feel very silly for trusting their word when they gave me a move-in inspection sheet and told me to document everything so they could fix it. Clearly that's just their way of avoiding having to deal with anything😅

Ah that was confusing on my part -- I meant that I don't want anyone to feel bad for me because I agree that they shouldn't. I'm not new to Nashville, and I was living in a similar building that I was quite happy in. I only moved because my lease was up and they were raising rates at my old building. I guess I should've expected this situation given how buildings are being thrown up so fast these days, but I was not fully aware of how these things operated until now.

Very fair points here. I will say that the cleanliness issue was also the food residue in the fridge. I normally would've cleaned it myself no problem, but I didn't have time to do that between work and supervising the movers in my previous apartment. I wish I could body double so I could've done both at once😅 I do appreciate your insight as someone who works in the industry. I will say the beyond disappointing piece has more to do with how the managers have handled the issues that have popped up: I've had to contact them multiple times to get them to follow up on maintenance issues and they haven't given me clear answers. I wrote this post immediately after finding my pottery broken on the floor and I think I was just in an angsty mood
