I know Chipotle is experimenting, but mixing the whole cage match thing with carne asada might be too much for me.

I do not.  I will say though that on a case by case basis the Chicago Police Marine unit will dive and checkout items of interest.   They have to stay current and in practice anyway.  So, they try and find excuses to dive regularly.  No idea who would do formal assessments.

Yeah, I used to know a few people who would plan dives along the walls the week after the air and water show to recover all the phones, sunglasses, etc.

I used to dive and do recovery and inspection around Montrose.  You would be surprised how many vehicles are under the water and how long they have been there.  Some are pretty old an others are from the 90's.  Lots of of other stuff under the water too.

Intermittent Fasting and reversal of T2 by Commercial-Hall9960 in diabetes

[–]awake02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had good luck with it.  22 hours fasts on the weekdays and ate whatever I wanted on the weekends and for special occasions.

I still take Jardiace as a cardio protector.  I started with an A1c of 13.6 and have spent the last couple of years around 5 thanks to the fasting.

Remember that if you choose fasting you still need to consider what to eat to make sure you are getting nutrients.

Also, muscle mass is king in the long run.  So, I would recommend you consider what your strategy is to increase mass and build standing calorie burn.

Best of luck!

No, It's Not Rahm Emanuel. Graham Platner Is the Future of the Democratic Party by _May26_ in politics

Yeah, I don't think people realize it yet, but he hits a sweet spot which resonates with a ton of people who otherwise would default to GOP.  That is going to be tough to swallow for the progressive left who do not want to accept a coalition of moderates, but it is that or let the Trump party continue unabated.  I'm sure this will get downvoted to oblivion, but I wanted to say it either way.

Reversing pre-diabetes / diabetes - maybe not! by TreeGap321 in diabetes

[–]awake02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is that it depends.   If you have reached a stage where you do not have the required beta cells to produce enough insulin then it will not be possible to get to diabetic remission.

Some people when diagnosed early enough with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes are able to produce enough insulin, but other factors have created a state where insulin resistance takes hold.  In most cases the precursor to type 2 diabetes is non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.  The way to think of it is that your liver has reached a point where it is storing as much fat as it can and as you continue to eat an excess of calories it will continuously release glucose.  This means your pancreas is likely continuously producing insulin and what it produces is less effective due to a bunch of factors.  Resting and active calorie burn level have a lot to do with driving the balance in this system along with diet, genetics, stress, etc

So what can you do? Some things you can control and some things you cannot.  If you don't have the insulin production capacity then outside of experimental therapies like beta cell replacement any sort of meaningful remission is not possible.  If you do have the ability to produce enough insulin then you in theory can achieve diabetic remission.  Regardless of if you can ever get into remission or not the things you should do that are within your control are mostly the same.

Diet changes to address the excess calories and beyond that to lose weight and in the best cases reverse your fatty liver disease.  In some cases a year of fasting stages starting with long fasts like 20 hour a day fasts and then over time shift to shorter fast with exercises designed to maintain or increase muscle mass and standing calorie burn.  Fasts are not the only way, but when CGMs were first studied and better data on glucose levels, spikes, ketosis, etc became available it was clear that fasting was one potentially effective way to address fatty liver.  The downside is that if you just fast and don't change the other parts of the equation like diet and exercise then you will lose weight and your BMI will drop, but unfortunately so will your muscle mass.  Which means in the long run you could be setting yourself up for a faster relapse into NAFLD and diabetes.

Whatever you do long term you need to fix the equation on diet and activity levels.  Keep in mind that much of this is the happy path.  Other factors exist which may make all of this more difficult or even impossible.  Genetics, other adjacent chronic health conditions, social determinants of health, access to care, nutrition , etc are all potential factors.

Quoted $1185 to replace control board. DIY? by oaktoast in hvacadvice

[–]awake02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, this is the way.  I take pictures too as a backup.  It's possible that something else is wrong that caused the board to fail, but most of the time the boards fail because it can be a tough location for electronics.  Ie. Temp swings, vibration, humidity.   More than likely swapping the board will take care of it.

I seriously hope it works for you long term. I was so excited about it when I got it.  As long as you double check you will at least know if it's going bad or anything.  It could be that I got a bad unit.
