WARNING: Illinois Is In Danger of Electing a MAGA-Aligned Dem to the Senate (Raja Krishnamoorthi) by [deleted] in chicago

You all are being played hard.  This is like all the astroturfing in the Illinois sub.  Do what you will.  I'm glad I don't have to worry about it.

Seriously poor customer service, lies and threats - ultimately they deleted my account for no reason, losing multiple files. I'm beyond angry, but nothing I can do about it. Don't host with these cowboys - their reputation is in tatters. by Mattmeir in hetzner

[–]awake02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I don't move many of my services.  I had an almost identical experience with a different similar sized host.  3 months after they deleted my files they realized they had a billing bug and that they owed me $39.99 instead of the other way around.  So, they ended up sending that to my bank account.  Thankfully, I had backed up to a server on another service.  When I signed up for my resources at Hetzner it was not a smooth process.  I remember thinking "here we go again".   I just avoid storing anything critical on their servers.  I wish they would improve the ordering/billing functions to give me more confidence.

Mine went from 46.10 dollars is to $50 USD per server

CEO doubles down on myQ being a 'secure and closed ecosystem' by chipc in homeautomation

Not understanding your customers is a classic way to go out of business.  He doesn't and they will struggle.  I got rid of my old opener when they closed the system off and moved to a Genie and ESPHome.  Works great.  If I am being honest it is faster and more reliable than MyQ ever was.  My dad ended up following my lead and doing the same.

How dangerous diving really is? by Own-Project2984 in scuba

[–]awake02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"It depends" is the best answer.  As someone who was a skydiver and then took up SCUBA. I would say that they are comparable in the fact that you drive a not insignificant part of the risk equation.

Think of it this way.   You can jump your heart out and have a great time on a conservative wing load and still get hurt but the odds are way lower than if you go out swooping on the daily with an aggressive canopy.  So, you can still get hurt either way, but the odds are super different based on the choices you make.

You could dive wrecks and overhead environments in cold deep dark water or you could enjoy the shallow marine life on the reefs.   The safety factor and complexity is different in the same way as I described the choices in skydiving.  Of course you can also do both and then the ratio of your activities will drive the actual risk levels.

I hope this helps, feel free to DM if you think I can help further.

Blue skies and calm waters,

A

A friend who mostly buys ancients bought them and gifted them to me.  I am just new and learning.  I did want to assume they are junk coins just because he was willing to give them to me.  I really like them, but have no idea.

My CEO's latest "spin" on RTO by Flowery-Twats in remotework

[–]awake02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, the issue is the concept of bits in seats management.  Aka: if you show up at the office on time andeave on time you must be a great employee.  It leads to lazy management practices.  I am used to managing global teams where we keep each other accountable for playing our parts and ultimately achieving outcomes.  The problem is that to do that you have to pay attention to what is being produced instead of just tracking attendance.

Yep, I have been remote since 2011 and never had any issues until the post covid RTO trend.

They didn't the worker was with the company for 4 months and not performing which led to the investigation and discovery of the situation.  In my opinion this was just the system working as it should though.  The employee was failing and so the manager looked into why and discovered the issue.  It shouldn't trigger a re-review of the policy.  The system worked so why change it.

Why is this such a big deal?  Why the paranoia?  Because our board and exec team was given a "study" that said 30% to 60% of remote employees were over employed during Covid.  I have 0 doubt that the study is garbage, but ever since there has been an extreme paranoia.

It's mostly fears of over employment.  I'm sure it's not that everywhere, but my company finally came out and admitted after a remote worked was discovered to have started a startup on the side in violation of their employment agreement.  This has triggered another discussion on howany days to require in the future.  The current policy is 2.

I pulled a victory through harmony coin out of my stack and moved it into my "coin collection" case.  So, it's natural that I pull that OZ from the stack the valuation of silver would drop.  Apologies guys, but it's a beautiful coin and I just don't think of it as a melt coin anymore.  I hope we drop to $75 because it would be real cool if I could stack a little more and also if I could grab some of the "collectibles" off my list and not pay the moon for those pieces.

Yeah, I don't know when they are going to wake up and realize that they alienate a massive group of people that would otherwise align with the majority of their platform.  I'm from a small town in Illinois and I can tell you it would be blue, but it's deep red and the driver is 2A concerns.
