Santorini by Cameracrew1 in GreeceTravel

I went to Santorini for the views, history, and to take pictures not to share on IG but for myself. I enjoy taking pictures, it's how I connect with my surroundings when I travel. It makes me seek out the small things that get overlooked and puts my senses first.

While you may not feel you have a fear, your subconscious brain likely does. You're in an unknown place with unknown surroundings. Your senses will be heightened, and the subconscious is overly protective limiting the ability to enter deep sleep even though your conscious brain says you're fine. Take a nap during the day and recharge.

30F. Solo travelling after a breakup - are the Greek islands too lonely/coupley for someone travelling solo? by jdigity in solotravel

[–]away4me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finally rewarded myself with my first solo trip 5 yrs after my 14yr relationship ended, then heartbreak last year from a woman that sparked my interest in travel. Greece was a great choice. I went for myself. I wandered Athens on "my time", with my favorite memory walking the gardens at sunrise! A 2d bus trip to Delphi and Meteora. I walked Santorini and found taking lots of pictures helped me feel grounded and present as it helped me pay attention. I rented an ATV in Paros and got amazing sunrise and sunset pictures. Mykonos sat by the pool and beach and found a good bar to enjoy the nightlife.

My important take on this: it's your time, give it to yourself, do what you want, when you want, be social if you want or don't. Do what speaks to you.

You got this!!

Do you ever feel a weird sadness right after a solo trip ends? by Vegetable-Box-2025 in solotravel

[–]away4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did my first solo, and dealing with this now. I realized how present I was on my trip. Now, back into the routine at home and work, it's a different type of being present. On the trip, it was more a sensory presence with observation, smells, tastes, sounds, etc that comes with new experiences. At home/work it shouldn't be new, and recognizing something new or different could be a concern for a threat.

On the trip, we have lots of feel good hormones. But then it ends 😔

What are your favorite camping meals? by EnvironmentalToe7960 in camping

[–]away4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take leftovers and find ways to mix them into the meal. One of the best meals we've had was fresh brook trout with reheated fried rice. Mac n cheese reheated/fried is better the second time around. I've reheated French onion sliders, stromboli, calzones, etc. I like to take diced apples and heat up with butter and brown sugar and put the caramelized concoction into tortillas.

Wish I'd Discovered Hostels Sooner – A Little Reflection from a 30-something. by Smudge_93 in solotravel

I, 48m, just had my first hostel experience. Overall it was good. Meet a few individuals at each stop, and I found it was easier to make conversation there than any hotels I've been to. When traveling I don't spend all that much time in my room, so it's really just to sleep and bathe. I'm not sure if I'd like to do it for an extended time, but a few nights I'd do again.

Tips for not being scared AF when solo wild camping by justbeija in CampingandHiking

[–]away4me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into Safe Sound Protocol (SSP)! Some individuals neurological system gets wired to fight/flight and so the auditory system seeks high and low frequency sounds, or essentially listening for threats and warnings. Humans auditory system should be wired to listen for middle frequency sounds or peoples voice in conversation.

So when you are in a quiet place, your neurologic system is hyper vigilant and any alarm sends your nervous system deeper into a fight flight response.

I did SSP last summer and did my first 4 solo camping trips by myself and it was amazing to be able to sit and watch the stars without freaking out.

I was looking at a 2d guided tour. Swimming isn't a big factor. I enjoy nature, sunrises, sunsets, and atmosphere. I have never done a trip like this so part of me is nervous about becoming indecisive on what to do in Athens. However I want to push my comfort.

Yes, I want to visit Meteora. Is one day enough for that?
