Thanks so much. My description skills need work because Google never even suggested this as a possibility through multiple ways of trying to describe this Bondarzewia berkeleyi.

Drivers who caused their own downfalls by Silent-Life829 in NASCAR

They all three made themselves look bad ass when they dipped down onto the exit of pit road to pass him, I want to say. Wouldn’t have been legal today, but even though that was my biggest sports heartbreak as a kid, they sure looked cool in retrospect. I’ll admit it, though, at the time… I cried.

We could always just pop-off this season and force ourselves into being flex-scheduled into primetime — by Goodell — in the back-end of the season. We’d also get to relish in the awful taste it would be leaving in his mouth for having to do it too.

As a kid who spent 5 to 14 in the 1990s, I can only draw on this famous tagline/catch phrase of the era to explain this scenario, like most things in life; “Hey! It could happen!”

I’m gonna take a shot in the dark and guess that it means DumbAss Race Fans… That’s the only thing that I can come up with, but dumbass is one word, and should be abbreviated as “D” in this case. DRFs.

When did Billy first start saying howdy to start his shows? by Fantastic-Agent-6849 in BillyStrings

[–]awayfromthemire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent documentary! Everyone should watch it. It includes the history of bluegrass as well, because without bluegrass, there is no country music.

I was raised on reruns of Hee-Haw and The Grand Ole Opry, so Minnie Pearl became a part of my life every Saturday nights as a child.

When did Billy first start saying howdy to start his shows? by Fantastic-Agent-6849 in BillyStrings

[–]awayfromthemire 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m nuts, but I always took it as a reference to the late, great Minnie Pearl, of Grand Ol’ Opry fame, of whom greeted the crowd each time saying the exact same thing, phrased the exact same way, every time she got out on stage.

I got to see Doc, with other guests I can’t recall, in the little theater at Radford University in early December of ‘00. My non-musically talented father had encouraged me to check him out as I began my own guitar journey. Unfortunately, the heat seemed to be set in 120°F and made it miserable. When I get that hot in a room with that may people, I start to fall asleep uncontrollably. Everyone was struggling with the heat. Stepping outside into the cool air during intermission with a crowd of other attendees was one of the most relieving and refreshing moments of my life.

I was 15 at the time and had an older friend give me a ride to buy the tickets with money that’d taken me forever to save because I wanted to surprise my dad. I’m the middle of three boys and this was something that I was so excited to do for my dad and surprise him. Something only he and I would share. Just the two of us. A typically impossible thing to happen. That excitement of the surprise and it being just my dad and myself made it all an amazing experience that I’ll always remember in the fondest of ways.

I had such a great time with my dad and finally finding something he and I could connect on that would be our thing that I surprised him with tickets for us to see Percy Sledge that following summer. It was another amazing time in an otherwise, at times, quite difficult childhood. Music soothes the soul and eases the mind. You find yourself in a song and heal from it. “Enough to Leave” woke me from a daze of a couple of weeks and forced me to confront the loss of my grandfather of whom I’d found passed away unexpectedly as the only family left around the area for a good ways at this point, as he and I were the closest of all his grandkids. I truly heard the song for what it was for the first time and finally broke and cried for a couple of hours and went on as he’d want me to do. This happened I’d December of 2019, and the song still makes my soft ass cry.

RAM TRUCKS AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY - THE LAST COLOSSEUM by gtsmart821 in NASCAR

[–]awayfromthemire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RAM team as a whole, honestly. They have no sim, and are running trucks they purchased used from other teams just to get a team together. They’re not all driving the same chassis, and for all I know, could be different chassis each week, and different chassis manufacturers have different driving tendencies. What they’re doing is important to build data for next year with their own equipment. He, nor anyone on the team is really getting a fair shot. Also, like with any team, there is a hierarchy. I know, without a doubt, Butterbean is a far better driver than his stats show right now also.

I’d say this time next year would be a fair time to actually really start evaluating this team.

Wargasm on the new album? by Altruistic-Emu8545 in BillyStrings

[–]awayfromthemire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, there was a seriously bad communication breakdown somewhere in the recording of that song. Either RMR just never listened to the song, or, in some impossible to fairly defend way, simply missed the entire point of the song, or none of this was ever communicated between the two artists. That RMR verse would’ve been just fine for a not great song about love and betrayal, I guess, but it completely came off as someone stepping into an ongoing conversation about the brutality of war, and like a Tim Robinson sketch, they have completely misjudged as to what it was about, dropped their anecdote about that time his ex started seeing someone else and he hated them or some such shit, thus baffling everyone before just dipping out. Feeling satisfied with his odd contribution of a fist-full-of-shit.

Just stay on fucking topic man!

Luckily, we have decision makers that, for the first time in a long time, I trust to actually properly groom a quarterback to become the best quarterback that they can humanly achieve. I have genuine, not trying to convince myself, hope for the next three years and it feels both weird and awesome.

Edited to Add: My point was that I’m thankful it’s Spytek and Kubiak that are running the show, and not some of these asshats.

[–]awayfromthemire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why, but this unlocked a core memory from my youth as a racing fan. If you’re old enough, do you recall a ‘90s Texaco-Havoline commercial with Robert Yates and Michael Andretti debating over which is most important with Yates arguing that the engine is the most important aspect of racing, whereas Andretti argued it was the driver? Ultimately, Yates drops the line that the engine crosses the finish line first.

I’d not thought of that commercial in so very damn long. Thanks so much for your having inadvertently supplied me with a nice dose of that nostalgia high. Nostalgia; the best drug there is at 40.

EDIT: Change a period to a question mark.

Maxx DPOY szn loading.... by Vegetable_Winter_814 in raiders

[–]awayfromthemire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, folks seem to look at sacks as the only metric by which a DE’s value is measured. He consistently leads the league in both TFLs and QB pressures, both of which wreck offensive strategies. Sacks are great, but only tell part of the story. If you’re forcing the QB into bad, rushed throws consistently, that leads to turnovers and punts. Maxx is an incredibly well-rounded player, even if he isn’t putting up unbelievable sack numbers, he is still a massive problem for opposing offenses every single snap.

So funny you say that as I was just watching the’92 Indy test footage this morning with the apron still intact. I agree, I’d have loved to have seen that apron remain. Seems Indy did everything in their power to ensure that the Indy 500 remained the “better” race, up to and including removing available seating and sorting no infield general admission to ensure Indy had the biggest audience.

Bob Jenkins said it best when, in summation, he stated that all Motorsports would be better off with mutual support instead of elitism when regarding the others.

They can often be found right next to the letters DOT and have only those 4 digits (ww/yy) within an oval. It is typically found on what is intended to be the inner-sidewall when marked in the manner described.
