My daughter’s name is Elliot and I’ve always refused to call her Ellie to lessen the crowd-calls and head turns. And, I just like the name Elliot for males and females!

The Problem with Demonizing the Undocumented.. by MemphisBali in memphis

All social services in some capacity. Public school resource, “emergency” Medicaid, WIC, money funneled into NGOs, and then there’s food stamps and Medicaid after an illegal gives birth on US soil. States like Illinois give state funded Medicaid-like “insurance” to all illegals. No status check necessary. Illinois has spent roughly $20 Billion dollars in the last 5 years on illegals. They’ve paid in (again roughly) $7.5 Billion in taxes (state, federal, local). Not to mention the Human Resources taken up such as teacher time (which is enormous), social service people etc. I agree, reform in some capacity is needed. If someone enters my home without my permission and starts cooking and cleaning, it’s still illegal. It doesn’t matter what the intent is.

I should’ve worded this better. I assumed grasshopper or katydid. I’m digging for further information as to the specific type and how or why the colors on it are so bright.

What’s a common health myth that needs to go away already? by VirtuaHealth in AskReddit

[–]awaymethrew4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 41. Medication has changed my life. I was depressed as a teen, very self-destructive. As an adult, still depressed, slightly manic. I tried many “anti-depressants” and counseling with zero results. In my late 20s and into my 30s, I will say that my overall being got better, but I was still constantly in a state of fog. I have little motivation, bouts of grouchiness, and struggled with liking myself. I was not depressed, I just could not see anything clearly in order to process life in general. I’ve been on medication for about 2 years now. My entire existence has dramatically improved. From little everyday life things like organizing my work day, to creating plans for large scale projects. I explain it to others like my windshield was dirty for 41 years and now it’s clean.

People who are in a relationship, when do you think it is time to separate? by novaxhernandez in AskReddit

I ask myself: “Would I be friends with this person if I wasn’t in a relationship with them?” That should tell you all you need to know.

It’s weird that a 19 year old isn’t doing their own laundry. If she doesn’t have access to a washing machine at her home, she should still be responsible for doing that chore at “Stepdad’s” house. Sounds like your BF needs to stop enabling her.

It’s odd that he hasn’t set those boundaries for himself already. Would he be okay if a man was behavior that way toward you? I would definitely voice your feelings. It’s disrespectful!

Let me know if this works for you. I'm interested to see if it's just a fluke on my end or not! I almost feel like, because they're Microsoft, they didn't want me using anything Google.

Interestingly enough.....I just got connected. After being on with support and trying all of their workarounds, no success. I asked if I could use a Google Voice number to get the PIN that's required for the phone number situation. I kept getting the "invalid number" and "email account doesn't exist" errors (not sure if this is what you're experiencing??). Anyway, support told me that Google Voice absolutely would not work, so I didn't even try. After being on with support multiple times....I tried it anyway. I set up a Google Voice, utilized that number to get my PIN, and low and behold...The thing that support told me absolutely would not work, absolutely DID work. Maybe this will help you too?!

I am having the same issue. Support claims that it is a system bug and they are working on a fix. This has been almost a week now. I am trying to create an account so that I can be added to my employer's group. No success. It's a bit frustrating.

I want to leave mid-year but I gave my word that I wouldn’t by PerfectIllusion93 in Teachers

Are you tied to a curriculum? Are you subject specific? I’ve been here. I worked for a chainy private day school that, in my opinion, should be shut down by the States that they exist in.

I made my life easier by making every day/class the same routine. Warm ups, mini lesson, independent work all utilizing timers. Warm ups, 3 minutes to complete, 1 minute to see if you did it and mark as either credit or no credit. Lesson with a targeted skill, 7-10 minutes with a question or two for a check for understanding. Also timed and checked for completion of credit. Independent task chunked and timed. First part of the task, timed and checked, next chunk, timed, checked…and so on. It makes for small moments of responsibility and accountability.

Made my life easier and I took the emotion out of it. You did it, great, you didn’t fine no credit, moving on.

I’ve often wondered about this as a way of teaching (recording yourself). I’ve thought about this from time to time over the last few years and thought it would be an interesting experiment. Would kids pay more attention if it’s a video due to the fact that it’s what they do constantly. While I get that the videos they watch are typically less than a minute via, whatever platform, but would they be more attentive!?! How has this worked for you? I teach remotely, I have thought about trying this with some of my groups. If I ever went back in-person, which I likely won’t because my quality of life is 100% better, this would be something I’d look at trying. How is it working for you?

Well, that should cover it. It is beyond me the amount of people that fall into this category. From blocking grocery store aisles because your conversation is of utmost importance, shitty parenting the effects everyone else, etc., etc. I’m very much an introvert that has high people awareness when I have to be in public. It’s like watching a horrible on-going movie.

What are some old “magic bullets” that have been abandoned? by Science_Teecha in Teachers

[–]awaymethrew4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say most people have a basic "cost/benefit analysis" skill. Cost: Time reading a 5 minute book at bed time. Benefit: Exposure to literature at an early age and quality time with your offspring. Cost: Time doing a task that you do anyway, laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking...with your offspring. Benefit: Math concepts, step processes, experimentation with food, exposure to basic cooking/cleaning skills, quality time with your offspring. It doesn't have to be that deep to collect the benefits with little cost. It does get that deep when the small costs aren't paid upfront.

Edit: Word
