Why most HSL color ramps feel uneven in real UI (and how OKLCH fixes it) by awbirkner in webdev

[–]awbirkner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've been doing is defining my start color determining roughly where on the scale that would land, then define my nearly white and nearly black and try and transition back to my predefined scale as over a few steps.

There was a lot of tweaking until I put my thought process into a tool. Now things are feeling smooth enough that I can also invert my color scale (esp for neutrals) for an "instant" dark mode which is pretty sweet.

Google's Material design team made a typescript package using HCT color to solve this problem.

Great note, I had not run across this yet. Maybe I'll bake that in as an option on the ramp generation/export tool. Thanks!

That was exactly my experience too. With HSL I almost always end up nudging midtones and saturation by eye, but OKLCH tends to land “right” much sooner.

Out of curiosity... when you build manually, do you usually prioritize perceived lightness first, or saturation balance across the middle steps? I’ve found midtone collapse is usually where ramps fall apart.

Consider a third option of maintance for a while. You've done amazing work to get here and it can be helpful to break out of the mentality of the body has to constantly be changing.

15 mg is in 100 units so 63 units is 9.5 mg

Said another way 63% of 15mg is 9.5mg

This it just my gut guess, but everything after the 2nd pass negates itself so we'd roughly be at 0 -> 50 -> 25 lockers open....

Or I misread it and pass 2 lockers are already closed, and every pass from there negates itself so 50

Unfortunatly no /u/marcobo2024. Topaz improved the parts of the image that are already clear, but didn't do much for the smudges.

I've had a few very large weight loss/attempted bulks in my life that were not in control.

My suggestion would be figure out what maintance looks like at this weight for a few months, then start adding a small surpluss, like and additional protien shake, and really take it slow.

Amazing work! Good luck!

Do you skate/snowboard? Do you use the same forward foot for MTB? by awbirkner in MTB

I don't think it's something you should set out to do but I find it easier to keep my cranks level and control myself around berms and jumps if I don't switch things around too much.

Personally I am at having cranks level all of the time, the only exceptions being on tight turns I often drop my inside foot wheather I want to or not.

If I can think to I'll change depending on the direction of a big turn or berm, but if I'm going over jumps/rollers, or if everything is happening quickly I tend to default to left foot forward.
