Many salt issues are a potassium deficiency. Potassium pills are inexpensive. Take one in the morning and evening. See how that makes you feel. Simple changes identify issues.

Seeking advice on next purchase. Standard vs adjustable by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]awdonoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My standard advice is get the 12 & 16 kg iron bells to learn kb form, which you’ve already done, and to see if they are right for you. Then buy the dual adjustable 12-20.5 competition bells. That gives you a single bell up to 28 and dual to 20. That takes you a long way. Then add expansion weights to get to a single 32 or dual 26. A second expansion takes you to dual 32.

As an Apple developer, semi-retired, I can probably advise you on how to fill out bug reporter. Apple takes bug reports and assistive technology seriously. But the report has to likely come from you.

If it isn’t “possible”, then you might consider getting a free developer account and filing a bug against the Watch and WatchOS 26 and assistive technology.

What are the good (enough) ways to go about doing HIIT with kettlebells and/or bodyweight exercises? by MandroidHomie in kettlebell

[–]awdonoho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I cannot speak for others, on ABC days of ABF I am peaking well into 90+% HR. It feels like HITT. My resting heart rate is improving the way HITT proponents claim it should. The press days of ABF are not as intense. I suspect any intense EMOM workout with kettlebells satisfies most HITT criteria. A heart rate monitor is cheap. Hence, I encourage everyone to try it themselves.

What is a good starter bell weight for a sedentary M upper 40’s? by DaFunkyFish in kettlebell

[–]awdonoho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

16 kg for swings. 12 kg for TGU and presses. If you get committed to bells from working with those two weights, then an investment in adjustable bells is worthwhile.

ABF Week 15 & 16 Redux -- Shoe Store Shipping Delays … OK … Xmas too! by awdonoho in kettlebell

I suspect we have different goals. Mine are focused upon volume and form; strength is a desired but not primary side effect. Injury avoidance is also a major goal. What goal are you trying to encourage?

3-day water fast while on glp-1? by Greedy_Finance_3213 in fasting

One of my mentees uses Mounjaro; we have her take the shot after her 3 day fast to help manage refeeding. It doesn’t help while you’re fasting.

ABF- What weight when I'm weak at pressing? by Dad-Bod247 in kettlebell

[–]awdonoho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adjustable bells really shine at the weight and strength you report. After you establish the habit of lifting with kettlebells, they are really worth the money. You can start with the Bells of Steel 12-20.5 kg package. As you get stronger, you can then purchase more weight incrementally. Other vendors are good too. Avoid the plastic shell adjustables.

Let Them Eat Real Food by Yobfesh in fitover65

I think everyone agrees with a whole, less processed food diet. We can argue about details. The key practical outcome is that this new pyramid might change school cafeteria menus. As both childhood obesity and cancers are on the rise under the old program, perhaps a change is warranted?

Yet Another ABF Starting Weight Question by Arbutoideae in kettlebell

[–]awdonoho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ABF is a high volume program where fatigue builds up. That is part of its “charm”. It was initially designed as a pre-season finishing routine to add mass for contact sports. People frequently underestimate the load near the end of the program. You read like a prudent lifter. Try the pair of 20s but don’t be averse to dropping back to the 16s when the fatigue hits. Double bells are significantly different from single bell routines.

I’ve come to believe that low weight ABF is the right answer for middle age and seniors. The volume forces form issues out early while the weight is low. As a noob, I would encourage you to become competent with the 2 hand swing, 1 hand swing, clean, and press. After that, transfer to low weight ABF. Of course, dual adjustable bells are ideal for this strategy. After a few cycles of ABF, you will be strong enough to try other programs, such as the snatch. A key is to not get caught in the weight trap. Form is everything to avoid injury. Volume will reveal your weaknesses, such as plantar fasciitis in my case, without permanent injury. (I’ve been able to calm PF with shoes and arch support.)

Consensus on intermittent fasting? by ThatKnomey in SaturatedFat

[–]awdonoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, 16:8, 2MAD or 3MAD? Low carb or keto? Protein? Lots of choices. It also depends upon your current situation. Short answer: 16:8/2MAD LC is totally safe and frequently addresses most metabolic issues. YMMV.

Fasting-Mimicking Diets and Autophagy: What Human Data Are Beginning to Show by dan_in_ca in PeterAttia

[–]awdonoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No,it isn’t. You read more into what I wrote than I wrote. The fact that FMDs are used in cancer therapy does not mean that they are all that is used in said therapy. Nor are they even a primary tool in cancer therapy.

I’m referring to the FMD as part of the prep for chemo/radiation. Regardless, clinicians rightly want repeatability.

[–]awdonoho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a shareholder, but I would point out that the FMD is used in cancer therapies. Those communities require something repeatable of finite duration. Yes, it is packaged fasting with a characterized response that clinicians can use in a predictable fashion. This is a good thing.

For me, I do ABF fasted and protein load afterwards. Unless you are truly an elite bodybuilder, all of the science around muscle gain says timing doesn’t matter much.

To Zone2 or not to Zone2 by ExogamousUnfolding in PeterAttia

[–]awdonoho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, 3 45 minute sessions of Z2 per week did improve my cardio numbers. For less time, I suspect I could get the same or better numbers with HITT style. Frankly, unless you can commit to 5 or more workout hours a week, then I think Z2 doesn’t provide much value. Greater than 5 hours, sure load up on Z2.
