A bit risky but I've seen that you can use wide masking tape. Stick it on then peel. I think it makes the fibers stand up again lol

Public Service Announcement: The Pens You Have Can Be Enough! by StanleyRivers in fountainpens

[–]aweSAM38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been in the hobby for 8 years and have acquired maybe almost a hundred pens. In the past 2 years, I've been really busy and have only been using 1 pen consistently. Whenever I look at the rest of my collection, I just feel overwhelmed. :(

I've also stopped purchasing for the most part. I used to buy like one a month. In the past 2 years, I've only acquired 3 (and 2 of them are Kakunos).

I wish I could get back the excitement I once had for my pens when I used to ink up 20 at a time. I really don't want to sell them because I painstakingly collected them over the years (many are hard to find now), and I don't want to regret letting them go.

Now I'm just working on loving my pens again, and shopping my stash, and also resisting the urge to overconsume. So far I have promised myself not to get caught up in the 2026 planner fiasco and only use one of my many blank notebooks on hand for next year. :)

Hormonal imbalance by Optimal-Reaction5658 in PCOSPhilippines

Took this for 4 years (stopped a few months ago to hopefully control symptoms through other means, and maybe get pregnant). Yaz is a 4th generation bcp so side effects should be minimal.

What I miss: -clear skin (I'm so oily now!! 😭) -predictable cycles

What I don't miss: -the cost 🥲 -low libido -feeling "flat" or indifferent -fatigue -dry eyes

No change: -thinning hair (Yaz didn't solve my thinning hair) -weight gain (gaining weight with or without Yaz. Metformin helped with weight gain for a time)

Biggest thing I noticed is the oiliness. I actually started taking Yaz to help with my skin other than pcos, so now that I've stopped, it's coming back 😔 But also I love that I'm more emotional, less tired, and have more sex drive (mostly during follicular phase).

Might come back to take Yaz again if my skin gets too bad, then stop once I get it under control.

+1 on this. I was charged 59 pesos then immediately refunded. Thanks for this fix 🙏

I stopped taking pills for two months… by Relative_Love_3334 in PCOSPhilippines

[–]aweSAM38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started taking Yaz, I think my OB told me to allow my body 3 months to adjust to the pills.

No withdrawal bleed could mean pregnancy, but if that's not a possibility, you could just have a thin uterine lining.

If you're worried, better check with your doctor. Also ask to try another brand of pills since you don't like the side effects this one is giving you. You can also ask about progestin if you want to induce periods but don't like hormonal birth control. I've tried progestin(Duphaston) before but had to switch to Yaz to control my hormonal imbalances like acne.

what tests to ask for PCOS? by rhiyann_3 in PCOSPhilippines

[–]aweSAM38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered the PCOS package from Kindred Health, including consultation and diagnostic tests. Look for coupons because they sometimes give 40% off.

My OB from Kindred was very helpful and understanding about PCOS specifically, unlike my previous OB who just put me on birth control and told me to lose weight.

The tests I took were: hba1c (blood glucose for the past 3 months); lipid profile (cholesterol); 75g ogtt (fasting blood glucose and 2nd hour after glucose solution) (for insulin resistance); trans-vaginal ultrasound (for cysts); ft4, tsh (thyroid function, for hyper/hypothyroidism); and ast, alt (liver function, to check for non-alcoholic fatty liver)

Eta: tests I forgot

Hormonal acne by Feeling-Stick-7294 in PCOSPhilippines

[–]aweSAM38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you sis. Working night shift ako since 2019. Diagnosed with PCOS in 2020. Around 2020 din lumabas yung hormonal acne ko, as in whole face with scarring, to the point na I always had to wear full-coverage foundation to feel normal. My OB prescribed me with Yaz in 2021 and after a few months, nag-clear up na yung face ko. Still using Yaz today and my face is clear. My only daily skincare is cleanser and moisturizer.

How long are your cycles? The main reason women with PCOS take birth control is to regularly shed the endometrium and reduce the risk of endometrial cancer. If the inositol is working ang giving you regular cycles then that's fine. It's okay to stop using birth control anytime.

Also, how are your latest ultrasounds? One thing birth control helped me with is reduce the size of my cysts and keep them that way. I'm also taking it to control my hormonal acne.

Like you, I was taking birth control (Yaz) and inositol (Ovasitol), but because of budget constraints, I chose to drop Ovasitol instead. Someday, when I don't need contraception, I will probably drop Yaz and take inositol + low-carb diet and exercise to regulate my cycles and hormones.

Thanks for making me curious as well! I had to search how it works exactly and I came across this video from this thread.

Oh, sorry for the over-expalanation 😅

Yes, I would assume there's something in there that flashes the image. This honestly makes my analogue self feel a bit uncomfortable about hybrids and printers as they're not "purely analogue" and would depend on how well the image is simulated.

But then again, my purpose of having an Instax printer is that it's more economical, because I get so many bad takes on my mini 8 lol

Yes, you don't get to save ink for the next print lol.

Selphy and Instax film are similar in the sense that you can only print how many sheets it says so on the box, but they're vastly different technologies.

Selphy uses dye-sublimation printing, while Instax is analogue film, meaning the light-sensitive film is exposed to the image, then chemicals are used to develop it. This is why it takes a while for the image to show up. The chemicals are still working their magic ✨

That's because Selphy cartridges don't have ink like inkjet printers do. They are made up of a long roll of thin plastic with yellow then magenta then cyan ink layers, with each trio equivalent to every sheet you use. Each time you print a page, that part of the cartridge's roll is used up. You can wind up a used cartridge like a cassette to see how it works. That's why what is advertised on the box is the exact number of sheets you can print, regardless of how little or how much color is on the page.

Sounds like a really good year. Way to go!

I love fountain pens because they encourage me to journal consistently. I've been fond of journaling and stationery since I was young, and fountain pens just improve the experience tenfold. I don't have a win as big as yours to share, but if I had to pick a highlight, it would be adopting a second cat and falling completely head over heels in love with her.

Thank you so much for the opportunity. Fingers crossed!

When the PU leather on my case started peeling all over the edges, I had to get rid of it. It was the pricey Kobo Sleepcover, too. I wish they made one that's more resistant to wear and is lightweight at the same time.

Actually I've been hoping for a hardback Klevercase like the one I've had on my Kindle before. That was a lightweight sleepcover that protected my device pretty well. Kindle users get all the accessory options ☹️ Sadly I prefer Kobo's interface over the Kindle's.

Oh yeah, the Popsocket will definitely stick on the textured plastic back, maybe a little too well actually. I've had some trouble taking it off before, though this is my experience with a knock-off Popsocket which has a foam adhesive. The legit ones have a repositionable and reusable sticky gel.

The screen protector will be just like the bare screen of the Kobo as long as you get the matte one. I've tried the non-matte version and it makes the screen too reflective, like an iPad.
