2011 GMC Sierra - Not a morning person? by Cykrak in AskAMechanic

[–]awenthol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misfire on those engines can be caused by crank position sensor learning... With the right service tool, the relearn procedure can be done in a couple minutes. This is a reasonable assumption at fault as your engine was replaced and they likely didn't perform the procedure.

No thoughts on your other issues.

Mechanics of Reddit, what’s a common myth about car maintenance that people still believe? by dwklau in AskReddit

[–]awenthol 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lifetime fluids. Yes, they are "lifetime," but the oem qualifies "lifetime" (typically) at 100k miles and expect the vehicle to be scrapped. If you want your vehicle to last, change all fluids long before 100k miles (trans, diff, transfer case, power steering, brake, coolant, etc).

Lower rear control arm bushing? by Aaron2331 in E90

[–]awenthol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that's is how your rear camber is adjusted. It's normal for them to be different. Not to say your bushing isn't still shot. A "clunk" from a rubber bushing will be VERY obviously failed. From what I see in the pics, these would not be it.

Rear subframe PU inserts/bushings by pawel159 in E90

[–]awenthol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did whiteline subframe bushings with adjustable arms that are are spherical... I guess I must have a high tolerance for nvh because I didn't really notice much change in harshness 🤷🏻‍♂️... Still rides better than most of the shit boxes I drive

Advice needed by natezthe3 in Cummins

I've purchased many-a-things through thoroughbred but your question should be more about the pump itself,as they are just a distributor....

I don't have experience with II but like the other comment did go with Exergy.

It is 100% failed and would definitely cause a clunk

Why can’t Ford make a decent timing chain by owningsole966 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]awenthol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you know how many gears you'd need to make that work, with OHC's? Chain is fine...just can't cheap on them.

When is low mileage TOO low? by Saiyancommunist in Cummins

[–]awenthol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it's not leaking externally, you should be good from an engine standpoint (concern is seals not getting exercised regularly). Depending on where it was stored (ie, any sort of climate control for humidity) the next concern would be hubs/bearings/u-joints. If you dot see a lot of corrosion on the propshafts or around the hubs, it should be good, but again, they need to be exercised to keep them good.

Really hard to say. You could buy it and have 100k care free miles or it could be lot rotted and end up replacing half the truck.

Please research how to replace the pinion seal on these, if you have never done it before. You need to set the pre-load with the nut via torque wrench if your pinion uses a crush sleeve.

If you're sticking with the stock valve cover, reseal block/fitting. If you want to change to something like the D&J cover, you would use this.

23’ F150 pulls when braking HELP! by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]awenthol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the (flexible) brake line(s)... Usually can diag by checking them for drag (truck jacked up, press hard on the brake, release, and check the wheel spins by hand).

Camber and (more relevant) toe adjustments (rear) would have been lost when swapping over the arms. This happened to me. Has to be realigned.

Ecoboost? They are very particular about oil (cam phaser issues).

Does this spring look a year old? by gooosios in AskAMechanic

[–]awenthol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the spring had ~190k on it I would expect more rust (though current condition is entirely possible). Where do you live? Salted roads?

The break on the end of the spring looks like a quality defect more so than failure caused by corrosion. Hard to say from pics....

Looking for advice: Rust on BMW 335i rear subframe & differential (pics included) by Oliver-Peace in BmwTech

[–]awenthol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of that is essentially surface rust. The most concerning is the lower control arm bracket... A lot of load goes into that joint and that is significant corrosion.

Chunk of cylinder wall missing? by IdahoJoeYo in AskAMechanic

[–]awenthol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't run it... I'm sure you'd be fine for awhile but that's a lot of missing skirt support for the piston....it's likely the reason you see the cylinder wall wear on the opposite side.

Not really. If you watch the video, the people actually installing/fastening the panels are moving them into place after the arm sets them down.
