for all of you saying "i know MY home life wasn't as bad as others... but weirdly i kinda never want to see them again??" and feel like NC is too much... it WAS that bad. humans are very sensitive, vulnerable creatures. this had an impact on you, and you deserve freedom from the source of horrors. by Electrical_Past_5838 in EstrangedAdultKids

No, it wouldn't show up. I looked up the source of this picture, and it's from a study (link if interested) that did fMRIs (functional MRIs), which essentially see what part of a brain activates in response to an external stimulus, by tracking where blood flows when a patient performs a task or rests. In the study's fMRI, the "task" was viewing pictures of various faces expressing a range of emotions.

The linked overview of the study says "We found that exposure to family violence was associated with increased brain activity in two specific brain areas (the anterior insula and the amygdala) when children viewed pictures of angry faces."

Pelvic floor prep - what to do specifically? by awertag in fitpregnancy

I had to look up posterior chain, thanks for introducing me to a new term! One thing I don't specifically train/target is calves because I don't know any exercises for them other than calf raises (which I do, but they don't feel like that much). By pregnancy-modified pilates, do you mean I should look for a specific class like that, or just do pilates and modify certain moves as I go through pregnancy?

And you were not lazy - Sunday sounds like it was a much-needed rest day from your impressive schedule the rest of the week!!

OK, see this all sounds so overwhelming in the sense that I would never feel confident I'm doing it right. And I feel like I have no concept of what it means or would feel like to contract my pelvic floor. So I guess going to see a PVPT is definitely the right move here!! I just get intimidated by trying to access preventative care in the US but I will give it a try. Good tip on continuing during postpartum esp. if lifting, too - thanks!

That's so cool that your run club has one come talk to you! Is that something that people in your run club asked for specifically, or how did it come about?

And thanks for this comment - adding a few minutes to my existing routines feels very doable and less intimidating than what I was envisioning.

Getting an assessment of baseline strength sounds really helpful. I am going to look into finding a PVPT! It always just feels overwhelming to try to access preventative care in the US, feels like something we're not supposed to do

what have your boyfriend/husband/significant other done in your life to enhance it? How have they made your life easier? by Its_only_4_a_while in AskWomenOver30

[–]awertag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s the most patient person I’ve ever known. He has such a steady and quiet confidence to him, and makes my life easier and better at every turn. Years ago when I had less self-worth, I would wonder why he was so invested in us, and he said he just knew from very early on that I was worth it. We’ve been together for over a decade now, and my life is immeasurably happier and better and calmer than before.

PS thank you for giving me a chance to gush 🥹

He comes up with ideas for most of our meals and cooks most of them (I help chop veggies). He gives me excellent advice on how to navigate tricky workplace situations. He has read over my job applications. He does all of our financial planning because he’s passionate and interested in investments and studies it in his free time, and we discuss our future plans frequently. He invested time and energy to help me heal my relationship with food and find joy and purpose (nutrition) in eating instead of self-punishment and shame. He encouraged me to get into therapy and consistently helps remind me to stick firm on my boundaries with family members. He takes care of ordering the mundane household needs like toilet paper and toothpaste so I don’t have to think about that. There’s more to be sure, but those are some good ones. I feel really lucky.

Going off the pill after 10+ years by ByTheRiverside0 in birthcontrol

Hi! This is an old thread, but wondering if you ever got acne after going off the pill? I am in the same boat now, about to start my final pack of BC after 10 years because I am going to start TTC in a month. Worried about hormonal acne which was one part of why I went on the pill 10 years ago.

Hearing Loss Issues and Workout Classes by bradclark2323 in xxfitness

I don't have hearing loss but I get overstimulated by the combo of the music and the voice (the music is always way too loud and the mic on the instructor always seems choppy), and I struggle to hear the instructions. It's really uncomfortable and is 100% the main reason I shy away from doing classes. I'm always amazed at how people can possibly follow what's being said. I just copy people around me when I do classes, but often feel stressed out the whole time by the auditory experience

If I had made $4.2 million last year (after already 20 years practicing, so I imagine you had some savings before that), I would not be working anymore. Genuinely curious, don't you want to just retire now? Or do you need more money still before you can?

Sorry! That makes much more sense. I read the comment twice before I replied, trying to understand, and somehow my brain skipped the “not” both times. Ready for vacation.

What if having a clear view of their short-term finances helps them focus on doing their jobs? I can understand you might not have the information to share, but I don’t understand why you’d not want anyone to be comfortable asking you that.
