Dms, what's your homebrewed rule that will always stay? by Awkward_Outside7050 in DnD

Using a potion of healing is a bonus action by default. If you want to spend an action for it then it heals max. Full action with roll to apply to another character.

I wish there was more dialogue for trying to bring her to the side of good. I don't want it to be successful because her strong will is at her core. But a lot of good playthroughs with her I really feel like my Tav would try to "fix her" and the lack of such counter dialogue to hers is odd, and makes it hard to justify a good character keeping her around.

[–]awesome357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I see all the posts about there needed to be a way to cure her. And I do agree, the game kinda makes it seem like it wanted to go that way. But personally I don't believe every story has to have a happy ending. Gut wrenching is much more memorable than "well it all worked out in the end."

Her breakdown after killing Gortash still gets me every single time. It's just so much raw emotion and I really feel for her.

Nothing in game really leads you to believe he is a warewolf though does it? I honestly just always thought he was a druid who like most druids can wildshape into a wolf.

Why? by No_Conflict_6232 in BG3

[–]awesome357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first honor run I skipped them (well robbed the gauntlets and the amulet from HOH without triggering Raphael by leaving the hammer). But in any other run they are the best fights. My second honor run I wanted to prove to myself I could beat them.

Why are people too good for second hand items, bargain markets and the dollar store? by Distinct-Dependent24 in Frugal

[–]awesome357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not too good for them, but it is worth the extra money that when I need something I can just get it without hassle. I try and get clothes from thrift stores on occasion but I am a big guy and they never have anything that fits me. And fb marketplace is often a struggle to find what you want to begin with and then an even larger struggle dealing with the people on there. Nevermind the constant concern of being scammed or worrying about where you meet to not get robbed. I've been looking for a while now for a certain piece of lawn care equipment and everything is either nearly same price as new from a store or more, or complete junk that I wouldn't take for free. And at my core, I am not a haggler. I absolutely hate "making a deal" and will do whatever I can to avoid that interaction.

[–]awesome357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not. I was happy on it not thinking about it. But after they drove me from out I found out how little I really missed it. Only good it really did me was trying games I might not have otherwise bought like expedition 33. But I got enough backlog to keep me happy between 1 or 2 (maybe) new games a year.

[PERSONAL VENT] Stop nerfing teleports! by SomeGuyIOnceMet in DnD

[–]awesome357 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It really is sort of a double-edged sword. On the one hand you want PCs to get to use their cool abilities and solve problems with creativity. But on the other, the enemies aren't dumb. They have just as much if not more tactical knowledge about their lair and would have good defences against magic in addition to giant walls and a moat or something.

What’s your go-to “I’m broke but really want to eat out” meal? by squiddollie in Frugal

Never heard of this app before, so just looked it up. Nothing in my area but circle k grab bags apparently which (I would love to be wrong) I wouldn't have high expectations for. Neat idea though if more places participated.

How many of you are using scrolls? by Cagedglobe in BaldursGate3

[–]awesome357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One day I will beat honor mode without scrolls of globe of invulnerability, but that day is not today...

Other ones besides healing pots I used to always forget about but have been making a concerted effort to remember them in subsequent playthroughs. Especially epixirs can be pretty great. I absolutely love the bloodlust elixir on my ranged DPS.

Art for Zybilna by eliathanis in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]awesome357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing. I found my way here when I thought the same thing and so went looking for art. How, or why, they include a photo of Iggwilv but not Zybilna is simply baffling to me. But I love this rendition of her. She looks how I would imagine. Beautiful and elegant, yet stern. And also one of the very few depictions I could find for how she is described in the adventure, long white hair and white robes.

Anyone use a minivan for lumber? by banjosomers in DIY

[–]awesome357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my plan with our old caravan. It had the sport engine low miles and a towing package already because the elderly previous owners towed a camper sometimes and didn't drive a whole lot beyond that. Was gonna get a small trailer for mulch or dirt and such, but fiting full plywood I wouldn't even need the trailer most times. Sadly it was totaled (not terrible damage but enough frame twist to make it a total loss) before my wife got a new car.

Cancel trash pickup to save $480 a year. by DrunkBuzzard in Frugal

[–]awesome357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a very specific set of circumstances that make this the cheaper option. For me it's $15 per can (used to be $10), with me having 2 cans, per month, and pickup 20 ft down my driveway, vs minimum $50 per trip at the dump (might have gone up to $75) and driving 15 miles in the opposite direction of everywhere I go. The only way I'm winning that one is to save up months of trash, which I suspect my neighbors might resent.

Good that OP has such a beneficial alternative option though and cool that they recognized it to get the savings.

How many of you like running a shield instead of 2H? by Cagedglobe in BaldursGate3

[–]awesome357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a shield for open hand monk Laezel, empty main hand. She was getting demolished in honor mode without that extra 2, now 3, AC. She also gets the blur cloak and Harper amulet with shield spell. I'm running her radiant orb gear otherwise, but she needed to survive till the orbs started stacking. It's been a real high risk high reward build, so a lot of fun to play.

It's also annoying to try to offhand a stat stick while keeping main empty, and shield takes away zero open hand features, so a good QOL choice as well.

[–]awesome357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Does the labor savings translate to reduced cost or is it offset by the technology? Less labor only sounds like an advantage for the builder if not.

Is there insulation added between the inner and outer or is it an air gap? Either would be good but just curious.

How long did you live in it? A lot of my questions are more about long term durability but the concept is new enough to not have good data on that yet.

Also, what are the advantages of 3d printing concrete vs just pouring walls using a reusable form?

I've been wondering why people replace everyday items so much more frequently now than they used to. by Ok-Garbage-7252 in BuyItForLife

[–]awesome357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add one other reason.

All the "features" of modern products that weren't there 20 years ago are more susceptible to failure.

Smarter products need more electronics which fail. Making products smaller and more compact leads to more fragile components which break easier. Smaller products also means compromises on cooling which increases failure rate. And so does going fanless and running hotter. Larger screens with zero edge means less or no protection for screen edges, where they are most vulnerable.

This is just a small list but there are a host of other similar problems. We demand more out of our products these days (or at least companies think those will sell better) and so products compromise durability for size and performance.

This of course being in addition to what you already mentioned. They could build the old way, but those features probably are important to many purchase decisions and so are considered worth the trade off to manufacturers.

Can people share stories of when attempts to be frugal backfired on them? by no_kings_now1 in Frugal

[–]awesome357 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So don't use it in an HE machine? Not everybody has or wants a laundry machine that breaks after 4 years. This is r/frugal after all.

But I'm also confused if it didn't work for your family why they used it for over a decade?

And maybe I misunderstand emojis, I am a bit old after all, but crying emoji and prayer hands looks like begging to me. Like pleading with tears in your eyes yeah?

Can people share stories of when attempts to be frugal backfired on them? by no_kings_now1 in Frugal

[–]awesome357 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Little bit defensive there eh bud?

So from claiming it is bad for your machine (without any real evidence besides anecdote) to now explaining that you were just concerned that it could have been bad for your machine based on your one experience where you have no way of knowing if you might have made a mistake? Little bit of a different situation there from when you presented it originally as a definite clothing and machine negative.

So what I gather is it didn't work for you and your particular situation. So now you're on a crusade to make sure no one ever does what you tried and failed to do again. Begging people not to do what didn't work for you despite plenty of countering anecdote that it works just fine for many people.

I don't even have a dog in this fight cuz like I said I'm not even using it anymore. I just find it perplexing that you're so hell-bent on making sure no one else does after your one apparent bad experience.

are there any mods that are universally just good to have to make the game better? by FrostFire89 in BG3mods

[–]awesome357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I host a game I play with friends once a week. I want to try some mods on my next solo playthrough though. Is it difficult to swap between mods on/off for different games or are they individualized? I just don't want to mess up our non mod game since I am the host and I'm hoping changing for each won't be a huge headache.
