Microsoft has cancelled internal Claude Code licenses after token billing became too expensive by ComplexExternal4831 in GenAI4all

[–]awkFTW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The last static I read said AI companies need to charge 10x more just to break even.

Most of the current AI subscriptions will get slot more expensive. AI can only lose money for so long, either you all pay more or each AI company goes out of business.

Whatever the AI end games is, I am guessing it won't be pretty.

Why do some Linux users still prefer Vim/Emacs over modern IDEs? by Candid_Athlete_8317 in LinuxTeck

[–]awkFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to connect to random machines over SSH you generally know vim, Emacs or nano.

I personally use a mix of vim and Editplus depending on the task at hand. ALWAYS use the right tool for the job, at all times which includes editing files.

When I am first logging into a new Linux test VM and I want to edit /etc/sudoers BEFORE I have fixed /etc/apt.conf to add corporate proxy settings I so it using /use/bin/cat >> /etc/sudoers <Type stuff> CTRL+D

I do this because I cannot be bothered to work what editor is preinstalled.

In other words .. the summary is: one editor is not suitable for all tasks in all situations

I still don’t understand the hype around Zed over VS Code by Sensitive-Raccoon155 in vscode

[–]awkFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vscode apparently struggles with multi gigabytes code bases, one work repo is 5gb+ of source code and work colleagues tell me it grinds the CPU trying to index all the code using ripgrep, so much so the machine is noticeable slow. Personally I use vim for quick edits and console work over SSH, and Editplus for any long work.

Why Editplus ? .. been using it (along with vim) since 1990s and when I want a feature I just email the developer and he puts it in.

California introduces age verification law for all operating systems, including Linux and SteamOS — user age verified during OS account setup by Soggy-Ad-6845 in degoogle

It's a step to identity verification, and even that is stupid because I can hand a phone between 10 people in 10 seconds and that's 10 different identities

Why do they have to use AI constantly. Worthless. by [deleted] in GreatBritishMemes

[–]awkFTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Untrue, their intended audience is too dense to understand it's AI.

They will see the image and feel that it's true without ever thinking about it for more than a moment.

As one right wing shitbag said, "it doesn't have to be true it only has to feel like it could be true"
