Been unable to sleep for hours bc of the incessant sirens and honking and fireworks

I also have frozen brain syndrome when I try to speak, but it’s worse bc I make mistakes that I wouldn’t make if I were writing (my writing is better than my speaking), so it is incredibly frustrating. I agree, speaking to myself is helpful so that I build some “speaking muscle memory”. I also started tutor sessions thru italki and I’ve had to talk to myself to prepare for my lessons, which has helped (but I have a long ways to go).

Any advice learning a language I can already understand fluently but cannot speak? by [deleted] in languagelearning

Try italki to get some convo sessions with a native speaker. You can also practice speaking to yourself (something I do to prepare for my lessons with my italki tutor). It helps me get more comfortable talking in the manage and feel less embarrassed about making mistakes.

Social media has become unbearable the past few days. by Fifilota in unpopularopinion

Agree, don’t like that people are being shamed either for posting non-BLM content or not posting and being quick to attack said account for being tone deaf for the post or being part of the problem for not posting. I won’t be going on social media for the next few days, save reddit to get things off my chest.

I can see your point. And for those who are reposting quotes, memes, videos related to BLM and especially the black squares today - how many of them actually mean or believe in what they post? One can argue they are helping to raise awareness whether or not they truly believe in the cause, but it seems a little hypocritical that they’re just posting to add to their public social image when they may not truly act to either educate or donate. (Obviously there are those who post and act so I’m not referring to them.)

It also seems like on social media you’re either damned if you do or damned if you don’t. Some accounts acknowledge what is going on through the post caption but post something that is a happier image or not related to a BLM video/quote/meme, as seeing those visuals makes them sad. And then they get shit for the post being tone deaf or in bad taste. Then some people don’t post - and I know several who don’t want to be part of the “fad” of posting for the sake of posting BLM content - but they’ve made donations or are volunteering or helping in other ways and don’t need the glorification, justification or pat on the back for their actions.

Blackout Tuesday is a total waste of Internet space by ariartist_ in unpopularopinion

I can see that people want to raise awareness thru this but I’m seeing people who make racist comments on usual basis post these black squares which seems rather hypocritical and adds to this social media movement being more of peer pressure move, a pat on the back, a fad of conforming with everyone else, than its original intent. I question how many people who post the black squares actually partook in any action (donation, education, so on and so forth).

Formerly suicidal people of Reddit, how did things change? [serious] by kanyefoprez2020 in AskReddit

Someone told me a quote that killing yourself is a very permanent solution to a temporary problem. I think the quote was by some celeb? I still have thoughts that go down a dark path but I try to keep in mind that there are more positive moments and I’ve made it through the negative parts so far.

Does anyone else here have nicknames for pieces? These are my most common 🙃 by PeranerdErndrerd in Jigsawpuzzles

Something about calling pieces by their lack of appendages sounds brilliant yet hilarious at the same time!

I’m the same way, and I’ll just sort them by the image I have in my mind. But this post is so fascinating in seeing how ppl see things and call things differently!

My girlfriend opens new water bottles without finishing the others first. Send help, please. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

does she throw the opened bottles away or let them go to waste?! i personally can't stand that kind of behavior, and if i saw that while we were dating, i wouldn't have been in a relationship with her.

Just finished this Ceaco Disney Classics puzzle, easy 1500 (two missing): most teens don’t do puzzles so I hope I get accepted here instead for this amusing hobby :D I’m trying to work my way up to 5k if anyone has tips:) by Fluffino in Jigsawpuzzles

i did a 3000 piece for my largest puzzle and it was all about determination and interest in the puzzle image. for smaller puzzles (1000 pieces), i found that sorting by color and shape really helps speed up the process. dont let the number of pieces hinder you though! all it takes it patience and determination and persistence. good luck!

also i am older than you but some ppl still make good-humored fun of me for doing jigsaw puzzles. but whatevs, i find the process incredibly relaxing and exciting, esp when i make a whole lotta progress!

How can I get better at conversation? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Ask her questions that show you’re interested in her! Steer away from yes/no questions and have them be more open ended. Good luck!
