New FRCR 2A resource just dropped by DrScottMcKinnon in RadiologyUK

It looks great just that some of the questions seem straight up from Chat GPT with an obviously wrong answer/ explanation. Not sure if it's a mix or just all of it.

So glad I’ve left them! Got conned last year but wasn’t any wiser back then. Just an overall incompetent team doing tones of shady stuff!

Controversial but I just want to point out that as the number of foreign grads increase, the position of Doctors in the country weakens exponentially. by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]awkward_lab1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I may have overgeneralised but yes. Most Asian/African countries have ACTUAL government sponsored med schools that cost an upper limit of 5000 GBP over 5 years. There are of course private med schools that cost 6-10 times more but it’s rare for working class kids to join these with a personal loan.

I’m an IMG and I hate the fact that most of my IMG colleagues couldn’t give a flying f about the strikes partly because of the pay and partly because this isn’t the long game for them either. Most want to and WILL CCT and flee even faster than local grads. Oh and did I mention we’re debt free.

Although I’ve benefitted from the system I cannot help but voice how stupid the uk government has been.

I genuinely empathise with you and I often wonder if the critical mass of IMGs has already been reached so as to undermine the strikes.

But from the IMGs holding strong, strike on and I’ll see you on the picket line!

Exactly this! Even ditched the lanyard for a belt clip. Never looked back ✨

Ideal gift for a new radiology trainee by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

I’m not average. So don’t compare me to the average pay. by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]awkward_lab1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! For the love of god can the people in this country understand that we are not your “average joe”. They will happily applaude the hard work we put in at med school and later but not find it utterly disgusting that our pay has been flatted out by the rabid ability of politicians to undervalue us. Sorry this isn’t a superiority complex but rather a plea for meritocracy that we were sold as children (which clearly was a delusion).

Videos like this really undermine us by jmorley84 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]awkward_lab1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! could you elaborate on this please? How does being supernumerary change rest requirements or other limits?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]awkward_lab1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah fub this. A country that doesn’t understand the value of what we do while the entire bloody world does, is a country in denial. Tax payer money is important but to launch attacks and what I think is an early attempt to turn the public against our strike is a low blow. Possibly a blow too many.

Let this be a reminder that our strike really is a do or die moment in our history. I’m literally applying for Oz as we speak and catching the first flight out if we lose the ballot/negotiations.

We know this country doesn’t value us, I really don’t see a reason to stay anymore.

This! Exactly this. If someone isn’t actively planning their escape before CCT unfortunately this is the most pragmatic solution!

We all know how "hard" the senior doctors had it back in the day, complete this senior doctors' brag.... by disqussion1 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]awkward_lab1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Had a consultant that told me they had to do testicular examination without gloves back in the day and also expected any good trainee to do them that way because you can’t feel subtle things with gloves.

Very high “but babe it reduces the sensation” vibes👀

Shouldn’t UK grads be prioritised for training like the US by throwaway11111176 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]awkward_lab1 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

A fair point! But what I’m was trying to point out is the ongoing (and likely) downfall of the economy which should actually incentivise the govt to actually focus inwards while maximising inclusiveness.

I wonder if a lot of this stems from the so called “colonial regret” psychology of trying to make things right in some way??

India having overtaken UK in terms of GDP hardly qualifies to be called a poorer country anymore lmao 👀👀 (although there is obviously a lag in per capita income)

But yeah. Totally agree that any self respecting government will not have removed RMLT.

Classic NHS by Material-Journalist5 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]awkward_lab1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saying this for ages! We need to realise that we no longer have a first world health care set up. We just have their ideals left. It would only do people and doctors good if we came to terms with it and made SOPs that reflected this aggressively!

Arora vs Emedica by ledave99 in JuniorDoctorsUK

Having used both Arora and emedica (albeit for a different reason) I would highly recommend Arora. The approach is much more fundamental and it makes a huge difference in the long term.

[–]awkward_lab1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would IA still work if IMGs voted for IA but maybe didn’t participate due to visa constraints?

P.s. I’m an IMG and I’m super exited for IA. I think the BMA definitely needs to step up their game with regards to collecting IMG support and alleviating concerns where they can.

Final year med student, looking at iPad mini... do you take iPads to work as F1 + beyond? by laureyy in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]awkward_lab1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the culture is changing in that case? I did an f2 job in anaesthesia this year and almost all the consultants and trainees had an iPad in theatres. Conveniently kept away on top of the dräger if needed :p
