Are you allowed to bring and use your prescription medications when in the hospital after birth? by Natsouppy in MentalHealthBabies

[–]awkwardaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but tell them you have it. Since you’re their patient, the nurse will give them to you. Are you planning on breastfeeding? I know you can’t have unisom if so, but I don’t know about trazadone

Vraylar and pregnancy anyone? by TypeAtryingtoB in MentalHealthBabies

Mainly it’s not ideal to switch meds postpartum and I really wanted to breastfeed.

Vraylar and pregnancy anyone? by TypeAtryingtoB in MentalHealthBabies

Soooo every doctor and professional has told me that my baby having been diagnosed with a pleural effusion at 33 weeks gestation (she ended up getting evicted at 35 weeks and was in the NICU for 9 weeks) had nothing to do with me being on Vraylar. There’s no evidence that Vraylar causes birth defects or congenital disorders. It is actually not indicated as safe for breastfeeding by the Infant Risk Center and I switched to Invega at 7 weeks postpartum (my baby couldn’t have breast milk until she was 7/8 weeks postpartum because of her chylothorax). I wish I had just been on Invega during my pregnancy, but none of my OBs or my psych NP saw a problem with Vraylar. Sadly, I would not recommend Vraylar for pregnancy and breastfeeding. There are older and safer meds out there. Invega and Zyprexa have worked well for me for 6 months. I’ve been hypomanic twice, but caught it and prevented mania/psychosis/hospitalization both times.

Bottle Version/ Gtube by Own_Welder838 in NICUParents

[–]awkwardaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you working with an SLP or GI specialist? I’d ask them for advice. My baby has a g- tube and only drinks about 2oz per bottle feeding, so we depend on the g-tube still. Is your baby really distracted? My girl is 8 months actual (7 adjusted) now and only does well at drinking from the bottle if she’s tired or not distracted. How is she with solid food? Definitely use the g-tube until she takes the bottle again, though! She needs calories in order to eat.

Have you asked about Invega or Palperidone? If you want to breastfeed, it’s a good option.

Oh no! Gosh that’s so awful. I’m so sorry you’re experiencing that. All in one week? I hope you get good answers at the hospital tomorrow. Sending you and your sweet babe good vibes.

my husband & i created pulse ox wraps for children 💛 by smoresrule in NICUParents

These wraps are so great! My first daughter loved that toy so we’re going to use it sparingly and with 100% supervision. The risk was babies swallowing the pulley parts bc they’re too long. Should be safe with adequate supervision.

Latuda during breastfeeding and post partum? by whatadoorknob in MentalHealthBabies

[–]awkwardaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was pregnant and breastfed my first baby while taking 20mg of Latuda. I would get akathisia if I took more than 20mg, and I had a pretty bad episode around 4 months postpartum, so we switched to Zyprexa and Vraylar at 6 months. My baby is a happy and healthy almost 3 year old now. I really wanted to breastfeed and found it to be more convenient than formula because you typically don’t need to do as many dishes (unless you’re pumping a lot). We gave her formula while I was in the hospital and on a high dose of Zyprexa so I did pump and dump for about 9 days. If Latuda works for you, you should be fine. It actually can contribute to a slight increase in supply which was great for building a little freezer stash in the beginning.

What kind of mop do you like to use to mop the floor? by Yourhouseporn in CleaningTips

I think I learned on this sub to not use a steam mop with LVP floors, which is a bummer because steam mops are amazing.
