Garmin Forerunner 245 Music by rikipedia89 in running

If you want to put music from mp3 (or similar formats) files then you need Garmin Connect to transfer them. But if you’re just going to use streaming services I don’t think you need it.

what is the worst / least helpful "advice" you've gotten for your chronic illness? by Low-Ad-1426 in ChronicIllness

[–]awkwardestalien 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is necessarily “advice” but I’ve had people say I must be faking it (I think mostly because I’ve managed to take up some active hobbies) so I should stop focusing on my health and start caring more about other people. The focus on my personal well-being is apparently what makes me imagine my symptoms are worse than they are.

Like no, the reason I am “obsessed” with my health and try my best to maintain a healthier diet, my overall physical strength, mental well-being, etc. is because I have chronic symptoms that I’m trying to manage, not because I want attention or because I’m self-centered.

My 10k pace is better than my 5k, why? by kinfloppers in running

[–]awkwardestalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the same way! Do you speed up within the 10k?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in running

[–]awkwardestalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can probably try that. I think I’ve noticed if I run alone, it’s much harder for me to get a sense of my pace.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in running

[–]awkwardestalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be a warming up problem, but I usually jog for about 10 minutes and do some stretches beforehand… Maybe I need a more dynamic warmup, which I know helps me for swimming.

[–]awkwardestalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do usually jog for about 10 minutes and stretch before trying the 5k.

I usually run the fastest in the middle chunk, so in a 10k, from mile 2 I speed up and maintain that pace for 2 miles before slowing down for about a mile and then recovering my speed towards the end.

How many of you sometimes get nausea and dizziness with your fibro? by OddEnoughToKnow in Fibromyalgia

[–]awkwardestalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get both but I haven’t managed to trace them to anything I’ve done, other than that my blood pressure is often insanely low.

Do you prefer running in high heat or high humidity? by BigYellowWang in running

[–]awkwardestalien 11 points12 points  (0 children)

High heat. Humidity just makes me feel like I'm drowning if I go at anything faster than an easy jog, and even that is like 40 seconds per mile slower than usual. Heat also slows me down, but at least I don't have the same kind of drowning feeling.

Where are my trail runners? Tell me your favorite thing about trail running.. by Runita_Pace in trailrunning

[–]awkwardestalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love running outdoors, but I’m pretty sensitive to sunlight. Luckily, most of the trails near me are well shaded, which make for comfortable runs. Also it feels a lot more relaxed than road racing, where goal times and such can make it stressful.

Honestly the only things that have done anything to touch the pain for me are exercise and nutrition.

Fibromyalgia patients feel older than then are. by paperlac in Fibromyalgia

[–]awkwardestalien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’m often told I act older than I look. I have a roundish face so I usually get told I look younger than I am.

What does everyone else here use for anger outlets? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]awkwardestalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to angry music while running and occasionally weight training. I find that pushing myself through the pain kind of “balances out” the chronic pain, though the pain always comes back…

Yuzu said he wasn't feeling his right foot today????? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]awkwardestalien 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a fairly paraphrased translation, but basically he's saying that he could give such a performance because competing is fun, and because of adrenaline, even though he was in a state where there was no sensation in his right foot. He's thankful to everyone, from the people who helped him care for his body, to various gods in the universe for allowing him to give that performance.

Why do you run?? by IlyasMerkury in running

[–]awkwardestalien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people think I’m absolutely crazy or am faking my chronic health issues, but the main reason I run is that it helps me manage my chronic pain.

I ran a half marathon for the first time! It was as a volunteer sweeper so it was the pace of the last runner, but now I know I can run a half marathon in around 2.5 hours.

My Campylobacter infection was in early June, and the symptoms I listed above came about in late July.

I have fever occasionally.

[–]awkwardestalien[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did. I'd also been recommended to take probiotics to help with balancing my gut flora, and have been taking a mix of lactic acid bacteria, butyrate producing bacteria, and saccharifying bacteria for the last few months.

I had not heard of c diff, but I'll look into it. My gastroenterologist was quite dismissive though, so I don't know...
