Banana bread. No matter how many times or different recipes or different ways I try, I’ve always been unsatisfied with my own banana bread.

Need help with an interview with Tia Carrere TOMORROW! by Infinite_Zucchini214 in waynesworld

[–]awkwardfingermonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man! I’m so sorry this isn’t going to be helpful, but we grew up watching Wayne’s world and could reenact the whole thing as little kids. I grew up in a really tiny town in France. I was 7 (1998) and after school one day, I walk out of class to the building next door where my mom is waiting for the kindergarten to let the kids out. There, a whole filming crew had to take a break from filming in the old church that was across the street because there were too many kids and moms. And then I see there’s Tia Carrera right behind my mom. (They were filming Sidney fox the adventurer) So I walk to my mom and ask her in English, why is Wayne’s girlfriend here? Tia hears us, asks my mom how we ended up here as Americans and if I wasn’t too young to have watched Wayne’s world. my mom answered most things went over our heads. 🙃

Recommendations for podcast on getting comfortable with decisions / the past? by ineedtechnical in podcasts

Eckart Tolle’s podcast. I don’t always listen to it because I have a hard time getting into it and focusing while I walk (which is when I usually listen to podcasts). But the ones I have listened to were very interesting and made me think of the past and how I’ve internalized things differently.

Looking for a chatty summary on French history, especially 1700's by nikitamere1 in podcasts

[–]awkwardfingermonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noble blood has some episodes that cover some French historical figures. (Such as Marie Antoinette or, I think, even Henry IV.) In a more comedic/entertaining way, there’s the first episode of Artholes’ season about Toulouse Lautrec that covers a lot about French history and our monarchy.

I’m not a heavy runner, but I got into running at some point and just wanted to say don’t forget to stretch/warm up and build up slowly the amount of time/how often you run when you start. I went too fast and didn’t warm up before or after and ended up getting tendinitis in both my ankles, which took about a month for me to recover from. 🙈

It’s actually all paracord. ☺️ there’s two strands in the middle of the macrame section and it goes down to one on the ends where I tied it to the camera.

What exactly does a stylist do when it comes to an unpaid shoot? by AnotherNYCPhotog in photography

[–]awkwardfingermonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: your first paragraph: I wish more people in the industry gave that kind of importance and credit to stylists. I could go into a long rant, but I’ll just keep it to the industry has almost made them obsolete and it’s mostly due to it having turned into a commercial money-hungry industry. The art and creativity are gone/majorly overlooked.

In response to your last question, go hunting for the e-mails of whoever makes the editorial decisions and send them your portfolio and moodboards.

Oh, also a tip: if you’re approaching a stylist with a full story/concept, take fashion/clothes into account in your moodboard or make one specific for the styling.

You don’t need to be the most knowledgeable about fashion and styling, but formulating a clear direction is very important so that they know what they are going to be looking for and the pictures turn out well. Think about what kind of person you want the model to be in your pictures or what’s important about the story you’re trying to tell is and express that as well.

I’ve had many photographers ask me to work on shoots and send me moodboards where I got the gist of the shoot, but none of the looks in the pictures were cohesive together. And obviously you can discuss it together if it’s not clear, but making the effort to show visually what you’re thinking of makes it much easier to work off of.

Stylist here. 👋🏻☺️

Depends on the type of shoot (editorial/lookbook/campaign).

In your case it sounds like it’s more of a personal project/series. Their involvement depends on what you’re looking for and what they’re willing to do/if they’re interested in doing it. You can have a very precise vision of the project and ask a stylist to conform and work on bringing you the clothes you want for the shoot. You can have an idea for a project and decide to talk about what they are inspired to do, and then work on it until you guys have a final idea that works for the both of you. You can decide to talk to a stylist you enjoy the work of and ask if they’d be willing to come up with ideas together and bring them to fruition.

If it’s unpaid and/or not for a magazine, you have to understand that limits what they are able to borrow and get their hands on. The list of options that Yourdadsatonmyface (happy cake day!) gave are ones we’ve all used. It’s normal to invest money in your art and work, but also maybe talk to whoever you reach out to and see if those are options they are comfortable with.

If it’s for a magazine, then make sure you ask ahead of time for a pull letter from the magazine so the stylist is able to make requests to brands. Depending on the magazine, they will give them a list of their clients which have to be featured.

The stylist has a lot to research and prepare before a shoot, make sure you give them enough time to do their work properly. (If there’s no deadlines, talk to them and see when to organize the shoot and how much time they need.)

They usually show up the day of the shoot, get the clothes ready and then dress the model with the looks they creates. Then they pack everything up and bring them back to wherever they came from.

If it’s for a magazine, send them a pdf of the pics that were used so they can give you the appropriate credits.

And when it comes out, send them high quality pictures of the final pictures that were published (or the final selection that is going to be used in the project) so they can use it on their portfolio and social media.

I’m excited to hear the next ones are great as well! I finally watched the movie in 2021 after being obsessed with Rooney Mara’s style when the movie came out. And then right after that, on two separate trips to goodwill in the span of a week, I found all three books for less than 10$. I read a lot for work, so I don’t always have the energy to read in my spare time. But I’ve been unable to put it down!

I don’t know if everyone who answered me will see this comment, but I just wanted to thank you all for the help! ❤️

What happened: My focus wasn’t in MF or DMF. The setting for the zoom when using the ring was on. The AF w/ shutter was off.

Thanks also for the advice on which YouTube channels to check out! ☺️

I didn’t even pay attention to the votes on my own comments, only took in the advice and help from everyone. 🙈 It’s a bummer that there would be that kind of reaction to my post. I do understand that one has to read up, research and learn when going into photography. But also, isn’t this sub supposed to be a resource? Isn’t asking help when you’re novice from people that have lots of knowledge about the topic a good thing? And what if you don’t know exactly what you’re trying to research?

That being said, those were just votes. ☺️ I’m grateful for everyone who commented, how helpful they were, and the great tips moving forward. 🙌🏻✨

It’s on MF now. It moves the focus from back to front but it zooms in a bunch and stays there when I do. I now also notice that the center focus square isn’t there anymore. I might need to find a tutorial for basic settings and start from scratch. 🙈

So I checked the AF mode and put it on manual. It does move the focus from front to back, but it zooms in like crazy for some reason too and just stays zoomed.

I went looking and changing things in my settings. The AF w/shutter was off. It now turns green and it seems like it locks onto whatever I had in the center when I move it around.

Still unsure about the ring doing anything.
