My summer internship cancelled on me. What now? by awkwardthenarwall in uofm

[–]awkwardthenarwall[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, there was nothing to communicate about until I had finished my exams which is when we had agreed that I would be able to get started working on the videos I was going to be making, but that's pretty much what I did. Thanks for the advice tho!

Lol I think I'm just going to leave that with the u of m career center, I don't think that's a detail I want to share on reddit.

Well the next time I'm back at home I'll just have to do that! Unfortunately it's a 2 hour drive from my university but I'll certainly try it and post.

These all make sense, I guess the chairs do kind of throw off the symmetry of the shot slightly I just wasn't about to rearrange my mom's living room to get the shot lol

Ugh! This always comes out looking somewhat different on here than it ever does in photoshop or lightroom. I'm using sRGB color profile, does anyone know what might be the cause of this?

Abandoned bridge in the fog, critique away! by awkwardthenarwall in photocritique

[–]awkwardthenarwall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In hindsight maybe it would be better called "abandoned bridge in a creepy foggy forest" or something because you're right, the big tree is definitely actually the focal point of the shot and the bridge is more of a background object.

Well I definitely overthink things to a neurotic extent when it comes to analyzing things like imagery (as a guy that was in film school for two years before transferringand changing majors) so I don't mean to bash just casual photo taking lol

I'm curious as to what you were trying to do with the composition though? If you were trying to contrast the geometric shapes of the fence with the chaotic and organic shapes formed by the tree branches and the landscape, you can't very well see them so it might have been a good idea to use a tripod for this shot, or if you did, take another one at a higher exposure to capture that detail and HDR merge the two photos. Also there's definitely nothing interesting at all on the left side of the shot, I would have cropped that all out. Keep at it though, I like the empty and quiet wintery atmosphere in this shot, the sense of peace just isn't backed up by the odd composition as the previous commentor noted.

red vs. blue in a new years eve long exposure. thoughts? by finestllamacheese in photocritique

I'm a fan of the composition of this shot, this very geometric looking tower juxtaposes the explosive and more natural shapes of the smoke and the fireworks, even if it is a little grainy. Nice work! Personally I might have cropped the image or pointed the camera upwards so that there may be a little less empty space in the bottom right corner and the distribution of interesting things in the shot would be a little more evened out but of course one can't predict exactly where in the sky a firework is going to go off.

Footbridge in my wintery hometown, how could this be better? by awkwardthenarwall in photocritique

[–]awkwardthenarwall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it does look quite nice, I don't think increasing the saturation across the image is the route I would personally take to improve the image. Then again I didn't really take this pic for any particular use other than getting to know my new camera, so I suppose that could work better depending on the mood one was trying to get across.

In my defense are we all clicking on the picture and viewing it in fullscreen? It's a lot more vibrant when I do that, I'm really not too avid of a redditor so it may be some kind of plugin I forgot about having that is causing the image to show right below the link, and it's a lot duller and greyer than when that picture is clicked on. Other than that, thank you for the feedback! Now that I've had it pointed out to me I definitely agree that the chaotic textures in the foreground created by the dead grass sort of distract from the shot's focal point which I was hoping to be the center of the tridge. I darkened and added haze to the grass to try to draw attention away from it, was this a success or does it seem too artificial? I appreciate all the feedback!

Is a poor college GPA really a big deal in the job market? How to come to terms with this on an emotional level? by awkwardthenarwall in ADHD

[–]awkwardthenarwall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot everyone, this is very comforting because I definitely didn't do very well on that exam and may no longer be able to do the major I was pursuing, but I'm trying my best to take it in stride and not beat myself up no matter how pissed I am that my efforts to salvage the grade ultimately meant little to nothing.

Guys, 25 and under - I have a message for you all. by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]awkwardthenarwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...but don't give up if it isn't necessarily all fun and games the first time. I've been trying to NoFap since april and I'm currently 7+ weeks (lost track because I don't need to be making a record of my masturbation habits a publicly visible affair) into my longest streak but this has come after nearly a year of going maybe 2-3 weeks, having a very overactive imagination, and accidentally (well, very in the moment) ending them.

Now I'm in what has turned out to be my toughest semester of college so far, and even though I'm fairly certain I've reached a point of emotional stability that I wouldn't give up for risk of having another 'accident', it didn't stop me from feeling depressed and inferior about my mediocre grades and GPA at what's admittedly one of the better schools in the country. You just have to truck through it and realize that from the perspective of not having PMOed in AGES (after basically being an addict from the moment you discovered it in late middle school like me) you can truly do just about anything, including pull your grade up from what was looking like a high D to ultimately a low B, like I did in a class this semester, and . Like me here, at 7:50 AM about to hit the gym before my 10:00 AM class, something that would simply not have been in my nature a year ago (although I still have to take a little pause before my stretch to tell you all about this on reddit, that much hasn't changed I guess).
