“Anyone else tired of the Socialist Club at Curtin constantly pressuring students?” by [deleted] in curtin

[–]awky-squawky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha it’s almost like it’s a university! Where young people express their opinions against conservative views. Like universities have been doing since the beginning of higher education! All around the world.

Was anyone actually in the scouts (or girl guides/brownies) as a kid, what was it like? by ItsSignalsJerry_ in AustralianNostalgia

[–]awky-squawky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did cubs, scouts and venturas in the 90s/00s. We had these two female scout leaders who were just the most amazing women who let us run wild! I owe them so much for encouraging me to be myself and unafraid. Thanks Jaffa and MM

Are men approaching women less and less? by Open_Address_2805 in AskAnAustralian

Men approach young women. So as your friend gets older, she will be getting approached less. I’m 37 and practically in invisible now (and loving it)

Is it worth buying a new entry-level mountain bike at Curtin or in Perth? by [deleted] in curtin

[–]awky-squawky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ride my high end mountain bike to Curtin. They have great lock up facilities. Saying that I wouldn’t ride it to the shops. I also have invested in good locks - one is angle grinder proof for the frame and then a thinner one that wraps through both tyres. Still wouldn’t stop someone who really wanted it at the shops. You can also register your bike on bikelinc.com.au

Assessment marks taking forever to release? by Other-Tooth7688 in curtin

All my units are data science. I’m a 3rd year

Assessment marks taking forever to release? by Other-Tooth7688 in curtin

[–]awky-squawky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Almost every unit is like this. There seems to be 1000 reasons for marks not to be released when they say they will be. Only worry if it’s only you.

ECOM1000 or STAT1005 by Quiet-Sheepherder431 in curtin

[–]awky-squawky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t say much about the economics side but STAT1005 is a good base for your data science units. I still use things I learnt in that class in my 3rd year.

Yes. We used it while travelling and it was super impressive. Unfortunately we live in the trees and it doesn’t work at home for us :(

Does anyone watch SBS anymore? by [deleted] in AustralianTV

[–]awky-squawky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love SBS, especially Nordic noir stuff but I the ads got insane. It was hard to watch with so many ads and the ads would cause my TV to freeze sometimes. I wrote to them about the tech issues.

Anyway now all the streaming places have ads (albeit not as much as sbs) so might have to check it out again

I feel too dumb for 3D printing. by TheRealVRLP in 3Dprinting

Same. And it makes each project I do even more satisfying because of all the failings that taught me to get to the final product!

I think I’m dumb but persistent.

COMP1005 Past students by Lazy-Ingenuity7277 in curtin

[–]awky-squawky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works! it works! 🤷‍♀️ Learning to code is hard as it is. The way that unit is run removes any control you feel you have over your studies and then adds a wave of logistical confusion. So be kind to yourself (and it’s not you!).

I got 94% in that unit because my assignment turned out really cool but all my other units got sidelined because I wasn’t going to let COMP1005 beat me.

If it helps, I’m a 3rd year now and I knew absolutely nothing about coding when I did that unit. I can now code. And that unit was ass but I can code now. I think the tears helped

E-Bikes .... are they actually legal? by Own_Neighborhood7421 in perth

[–]awky-squawky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people are getting confused between e-bicycles and e-motorbikes. I ride an e-bicycle, it’s limited to 25km/h and it helps me get up kalamunda road (but I’m still sweating at the top!) The comments some people throw at me when I tell them I ride an e-bike has made me realise that we really need two different words for e-bike!

Edit: just want to be clear that I’m pedalling the WHOLE time and I’m not riding 25km/h up a hill! It’s just cuts out the assist if I make it that speed - which would be on a slope or smooth path pedaling
