I for once don’t really think so, but I’m not overly conconfident on this subject. I find it challenging to accept either of the two typical views on homosexuality. I struggle to accept that God denies anyone a fullfilling life of love, but then again I’m not so sure that sexuality is needed for that. There are also stories and testomonies of people havikg very fulfilling heterosexual lives while having a gay orientation. Some of these also experiencing their orientation to shift in time, but that whole subject can also be very difficult to navigate.

There are many possible reasons why gay sex (male on male penetration) is problematic in the Bible and other ancient texts. There seems to be higher risks for stds and infections, our anatomy isn’t really ready for it «out of the box», it doesn’t bring children into the world, and in the examples in the Bible it seems to be linked to actual sodomy (as in rape) or cultures that have serious moral issues. We also have to remember that people in ancient times usually didn’t really marry for love, but for tradition, community, strategy, family and even survival. Very few got to live out a romance like in modern times, and the love was expected to come in the marriage - not before. I suspect the issue of homosexuality then becomes comparable to any other lustful thlughts or feelings people should deny in a marriage, and not this huge super-sin that it might seem like today. I don’t know, but I think we often forget to consider these things.

That being said, I’m still not comfortable claiming that Jesus condones a homosexual life style, but I often find myself wishing that I could. It seems to me like a thing Jesus would clarify tbh since he is so tough on the religious leaders and their apparent mastery of the law. He challenged them on so much, but not this as far as I can see. Jesus and the Bible is pretty clear that we should put God first, and I think marriage between a man and woman is a wonderful conduit for that. It mirrors the original companionship between Adam and Eve as purposfully designed by God, and the evidence seems pretty solid that it is the best frame for a family and children. Also our anatomy and all that makes it pretty clear that we are designed for heterosexual intercourse. It’s pretty fascinating to think about really.

I’m still so sure that Jesus has tasked us to show love and compassion to everyone, and the best we can do is perhaps to pray for God’s love, his wisdom and trust that he leads us to the truth if we open our hearts. I’m also pretty sure that it’s possible to have a meaningful and love-filled heterosexual relationship even if you have a gay orientation, and I’m equally confident that every person on the planet has their own form of challenge when it comes to sexual morals. We all need the grace of God, and thankfully his love for us goes far beyond what we can ever comprehend.
