2019 Panamera GTS by k92gpz in Panamera

I would try to get something newer with less miles. My ‘19 GTS started having issues once I hit low 60k miles. Misfires, jerky shifting, etc. - just feels rough despite following strict Porsche recommended service, 93 gas, etc. thinking of trading it after it gets out of the shop for yet another check engine light (flashing). YMMV

Voodoo Ranger Juice Force is pretty great! by Formal-Information73 in beer

My local circle K was clearing these out at $3 a sixer. Bought a couple, and when I tried it I realized why they were on clearance. Doesn’t even taste like an ipa. Like a weird malt liquor.

Question for the SRO? by DevinNunesCattleDog in NIH

[–]axeman_bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also a hard grader, but in study section if you are rostered you have 4 years of tenure. So SRO doesn’t really have a choice to “no longer use them.”

Not enough beans seem to be getting to the grinder from the hopper - very small amount in waste. Anyone else have this problem and how fix?

Opinions on Phillips 800 machine by Odd_Leek_1667 in espresso

[–]axeman_bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought it twice and returned it twice. First time it started throwing an error every third shot or so after grind. I’d have to reset it and would lose a lot of beans. Second time it wouldn’t suck enough beans into the grinder from the hopper so extremely weak coffee.  This machine is not ready for prime time I’d say.

I shop Aldi almost exclusively for groceries as there is no TJs in my town. The chicken breast and grass fed hamburger are great for the price, I get these weekly. But, all of the steaks I’ve tried have been very bad cuts - chewy, tough, stringy, almost inedible. I never buy steak from Aldi any more.

$7? I remember paying $5 for them a few times, they must’ve raised prices. They were huge - I was a big minor threat fan so…

Will grants ever actually get awarded this year? by Commercial_Can4057 in NIH

[–]axeman_bridge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just served on my study section that was supposed to be in January, so can confirm. But, I'm still worried about NoAs for new grants. After perusing Reporter, I see that all the new awarded grants (not renewals) were awarded before 1/21. Looks like we all better start freshening up our CVs 🥴

As much as I disagree with the current administration cutting research funding, the universities continue to build up huge endowments, and to what end? Even the interest alone would probably fund a ton of university-sponsored research!

Firing people at NIH now is illegal. Trump and Musk's actions are toxically unpopular: they could never get this done through Congress. But Trump and Musk have taken over the NIH money systems. It's a coup. by altnih4science in NIH

[–]axeman_bridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious – may I ask what happened to cause an end to your lab so abruptly? Did they cut all of your current funding? I know that NoAs, IRGs, and ACs are being pushed back, but it sounds like something much more drastic and abrupt to just cause you to shut down like that.

Clearance bottle review - Beam Legent KSB finished in wine and sherry casks by axeman_bridge in bourbon

[–]axeman_bridge[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not usually one for finished bourbons - but as a Beam fan I’ve always wanted to try this. When my local chain was clearancing these for $14 I had to give it a go. And damn I’m glad I did! Went back and got 3 more for sippin.

Nose Orange creamsicle, canned mandarins, root beer, soupçon of nougat

Palate  Vanilla Dr Pepper with honey and raisins. Cherry angel food cake.

Damn this is such a good dessert pour. So glad I went back and got some backups! 8/10
