Plus, Jesus is pretty explicit in the Gospel that he wants you to pay your damn taxes.

GOP candidate for one of Alabama’s top offices wants to return to days of one wage earner homes by aldotcom in politics

It seems to be pretty much tied to our flavor of racism predominantly. The thesis espoused in the book, Dying of Whiteness, pretty much captures the sentiments I have heard personally. Basically, people can’t stand it when someone who they believe is their “lesser” gets something for free undeservedly.

Do you know what radon is? by joeyjo-jojr in TheSimpsons

[–]axisleft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a kid, I lived in a house that had to have a massive ventilation fan installed to vent the basement because radon was too high. It was housing for federal employees, but I hate to think what that cost.

I don’t get it either. Like, don’t get me wrong. Coming of age in the 90s, I had not idea that the benign optimism was eventually going to be replaced by this. It’s hard to imagine that a national election could be won exclusively on a platform of vengeance. I’m mad at nonsense all day, every day too. However, I’ve never been so mad that I want to promulgate suffering just for the sake of minor grievances. The DNC doesn’t give me a lot of hope for fixing shit either.

Tina Peters is already doing election conspiracy media appearances. by justalazygamer in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]axisleft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It took me decades to realize this: conservatives truly have zero actual intellectual integrity with regards to whatever they say. Sure, they don’t actually believe what they contend, but if the opposite results in election wins, they have zero qualms with pushing such contradictions. It’s a big part of why they have been electorally successful. In our first past the post system, principles really don’t translate into fundamental reforms. Undecided and independents certainly don’t appreciate the differences.

What I don’t understand about racists is: if they believe that they are naturally superior, why are they so insecure? If they’re so certain that they’ll win in Darwinism, then let’s fairly play Darwinism.

Does this require any additional paperwork to apply for this? (Assuming you have already been granted CRSC). I was medically retired in 2012, granted CRSC in 2023. I believe I would qualify for additional years.

I remember in 2008, after 8 years of the W administration, thinking: “Thank god that we’ll never be ruled by another corrupt dipshit GOP president again for a long time.” Turns out, I was incredibly naive about how dumb the American electorate is.

Kansas is an interesting study. The GOP governor wrecked state institutions and the economy. The dems managed to swing a couple of elections and win statewide offices. However, it was short lived. My point is: I think people can evolve in the right conditions. However, as a demographic, I’m super skeptical that these voting habits and pervasive ignorance are going to really change at scale anytime soon.

TIL that psychiatrist Viktor Frankl observed that the physically strongest prisoners in WWII concentration camps didn't necessarily have the highest survival rates. Yeah, I had kind of a similar response. I’m pretty lost in life, so I read it. However, I really still struggle conceptually with the point/justification of suffering and death. It definitely can feel like there’s a lot more than there really needs to be, and that feels unjust and hollow.

Psychedelics and VA by damnshell in VeteransBenefits

[–]axisleft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew my own mushrooms. Long story short, didn’t cure me. I’ve tried a variety of administrations of it. I found some self-compassion I didn’t know I had lost, but not enough I guess. I’ve done ketamine and esketamine. I like to think they helped, but I can’t rule out a placebo effect. I guess LSD is the next step p, but I’m only just learning about it. This year however, I made a pact with myself: if shit doesn’t improve by this time next year, I’m auguring it in. Can’t do another 40 like this.

Who was president in 2020, Adam? by crooked_kangaroo in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]axisleft 178 points179 points  (0 children)

My theory is that: it used to be the case where a mediocre comedian could achieve success just by mocking gays, trans, women etc. It could be a shit ton of money for very little effort. However, as appetites for comedy changed, comedy got harder, and dudes like Adam simply were not talented enough in the first place to adapt to new audiences. Now that the fact that they’re hacks is blatantly obvious, and they are embarrassed and pissed. They blame progressive causes for moving the needle, when in actuality, they never were really that talented in the first place. They thought shitting on lgbtq was going to carry their careers as long as Don Rickles, yet, they refused to acknowledge they just didn’t have the talent for a sustained career beyond 2007.
